i love reading the text posts on here that are like little windows into everyones lives. someones having coffee. someones waiting for the bus. someones buying their friend a gift. someone's crying, someone's laughing. someones going to bed
I NEED a little drabble about bestie sharing the bed with both Armand and Louis. I feel like Louis would definitely notice Armand acting a little more softer towards her.
His laugh is a gentle, barely there sound that still manages to be warm enough to cut through the night's steady chill. You beam at Louis's easiness.
"It's not that funny." Your attempt at denying his amusement is completely hollow. Part of the fun of scrolling through social media with Louis is seeing what kind of posts get an actual reaction from him.
Louis straightens slightly, his arm shifting away from your side as he turns towards you. The movement is small, but it does manage to pull some of the bedding away from you. The sudden exposure to the cool air leaves you tugging on the comforter. "You don't get it."
A common argument. You roll your eyes. "Okay, I'm the problem."
He leans towards you with no warning, pressing a chaste kiss against your cheek. "You're never the problem."
The affection pressed into each syllable leaves your face feeling a little warmer than it did a moment ago. You grin at him. "You're never a problem either."
The corner of Louis's mouth angles itself upwards, but something about the slight draw of his eyebrow makes the expression feel closer to a grimace than a smile. Nothing has happened to the easy mood between the two of you, but the vague implication of angst is enough to make you feel a little less light. What you'd give to get Louis to see himself the way you do.
"Louis."
He lets out a soft sigh. "What?"
You lock your phone screen before letting the device fall onto the bed. "You're very dear to me, and I don't like when you talk about yourself like you're not."
Louis takes your hand before you can begin to actually lecture him. "I didn't say anything."
A technicality that you're not in the mood to break down. "Mhm."
He parts his lips, clearly ready to continue the argument, but at the very last second, he closes his mouth again. If you were any less used to his subtle shifts, you might have not noticed the barely there turn of his head towards the bedroom door. This is a sign you've grown incredibly familiar with.
You sit up fully. "He's back?"
"Still a little down the hall," Louis answers, "He should be unlocking the front door soon."
You blink. When it comes to indicators of vampirism that aren't as easy to mask as simply asking you to avoid the kitchen while he's feeding, you do what you can to keep your reactions within a very specific range. Nothing overly excited enough to make you seem childish or make Louis feel like a commodity, but nothing apprehensive enough to make it seem like you don't trust him.
Still, there is something so objectively interesting about someone being able to hear things the way he does. "It's so cool that you can hear all of that."
Louis smiles a little at that, this time the look feels a lot more genuine. "I can hear a lot more than that."
His lightheartedness only adds to your amusement. "Do you ever hear any good gossip?"
Before Louis can respond, the door to his bedroom creaks open. It's instinctual to turn your head towards the doorway.
Armand is standing there, the soft light coming in from the hallway making his features feel almost dreamlike. He continues forward, his steps even and quiet as he makes his way further into the room.
"Do you two always have to spend time in here when I leave?"
Now that he's a little closer, it's easier to observe him. He's wearing a coat that seems much too thin for tonight's weather. You can understand his desire for the occasional private walk, but you're not sure why he had to go out during the coldest forecasted night of the week.
You lift a shoulder in a partial shrug, "Sometimes we go through your closet instead."
"And your dresser drawers."
Louis's attempt at continuing your joke is a lot more settling than it should be. After all, you have nothing to feel awkward about. Armand has come home to you and Louis in their shared room enough times to not make a big deal out of it.
"And your nightstand."
Armand rolls his eyes, his steps slowing slightly as he begins to shrug off his jacket. "Hilarious."
Without looking at either of you, Armand approaches the closet you had just been joking about. There's a good chance he's just putting away his coat, but it's also possible that he already wants to start getting ready for bed. It's still early for him, but you wouldn't blame him for wanting to wind down before going to sleep.
Maybe it's a sign for you to start getting ready to politely leave before you can overstep any actual boundaries. Giving Armand a bit of a hard time about personal space and the amount of time you spend with Louis is lighthearted enough, but you're never actually trying to get in the way.
You bring your hands together on your lap as you think through what to say next. The last thing you want to do is seem nervous in any capacity, so you ask, "Did you enjoy your walk?"
Armand returns to the main part of the bedroom. He's changed into black pajama pants. "It was fine," he says, "Quiet."
Louis gently nudges your arm at that. "Him and his quiet." Even though you've heard them both exchange actually passive aggressive comments regarding how social they each want to be, his tone makes it clear that this time he's completely joking.
"There was a time before I had to seek out silence at all." Armand's response is such a clear jab at you, you have no choice but to roll your eyes.
You shift to better face him, pulling your legs beneath as you think through potential responses. Before you can offer him a deeply sarcastic apology, Armand reaches for the back of his shirt. He pulls the material off of himself so casually he doesn't even stop walking as he does so.
All coherent thought immediately abandons you. This isn't the first time Armand has taken his shirt off with you still in the room, but that doesn't mean it happens often.
Considering how much of your time is spent around two guys, you think you'd be better at knowing what to do when they start changing with little to no warning.
Your gaze lingers on him for a moment longer than you want it to. The uncomfortable warmth crawling its way up your neck is only further aggravated by the awareness that they're still waiting for you to respond.
Dropping your gaze onto your lap would be too obvious, so you settle for staring at a specific spot on the wall. "For someone that values their peace and quiet so much, you sure do spend a lot of time asking me to play Minecraft with you."
The dresser lets out a quiet groan as Armand pulls one of the drawers open. You force yourself to relax slightly, your gaze settling on him again. With his back facing you, its easier to remember that things like this are only ever as awkward as you make them.
"Louis doesn't enjoy the game." He takes his time folding the shirt he was just wearing before placing it in its drawer. "I might as well get something out of your presence."
Armand shuts the drawer that must be used to store all of the shirts that are too thin to be worn in this kind of weather. He then opens the one directly above it.
"You and my 10-year-old cousin have the same mindset," you mumble, tone a little more passive aggressive than you feel.
He grabs a loose fitting shirt out of this new drawer. "Like you're not always asking me for my diamonds."
"Please." It's not like you're a free loader, but he plays a lot while you're sleeping and sometimes you're not in the mood to gather supplies first thing in the morning. "Before me, you had never even built a large farm."
Armand sighs as he pulls on his pajama shirt. You squeeze your hands together on your lap. "This is getting ugly." It's not an easy thing for you to choose peace. "Let's just agree we have a perfectly symbiotic in-game relationship and leave it at that."
He nods once before starting to walk forward. "Leaving it at that."
"You must be tired," Louis says, his hand finding yours, "Calling out of an argument early like that."
You squeeze Louis's hand to yours. "Maybe I'm growing."
"Doubtful," Armand mumbles.
He's approaching Louis's side of the bed now, so you have to bend your neck a little awkwardly to glare at him. If he notices the look, he doesn't react to it. Instead, he just continues to move towards Louis, leaning down to give him a quick kiss as a greeting.
Armand straightens before beginning to walk towards his side of the bed--where you're sitting. You drag your thumb across Louis's knuckles as a way of making yourself feel a little more grounded.
If you had been paying more attention to Armand, you might have thought to think twice about him placing a hand against the comforter. He pulls the bedding back, not suddenly enough to be considered harsh, but losing the blanket's warmth at all feels sharp. He sits down next to you before you can complain.
Armand is quick to relax, moving closer to you so that his back can rest against the pillow you're still using. His arm brushes against yours as he adjusts, and you can't help the slight gasp that escapes you at the feel of his skin. He's so cold it's even abnormal by vampire standards.
"Armand," you scold, pulling your hand away from Louis so that you can hold onto Armand a little better. "You're freezing." You bend your fingers around his forearm, gently smoothing his skin in a desperate attempt at making him warmer. "He's freezing," you repeat, this time turning your head enough to say it directly to Louis.
"Poor thing," Louis mumbles, his tone exaggerated enough to make you feel like he's playing into your worry for your sake. "I can't help him, ma bichette." Louis sits up a little straighter, pressing a kiss against your shoulder in an attempt at easing you. "I told him not to go out like that."
Armand sighs, halfheartedly glaring at Louis for his passive aggressive comment. "I needed some air."
You frown, pulling Armands hand onto your lap. You squeeze his fingers between your own. "And you could have taken a warmer coat." His lack of response feels annoyingly petulant. "'I'm the vampire Armand'," you start, your tone mocking, "'I've lived through five centuries, which means I'm too self-important to wear layers when it's cold out.'"
Armand doesn't respond. You tug on his arm, pulling it closer to you so that you can continue to try to force warmth into his skin. After another lengthy beat of silence, he says, "I don't sound like that."
"I'm actually not convinced you hear yourself when you speak at all."
Louis sighs, mumbling your name as a gentle way of asking you to go easy on him. "Be nice."
"I'm always nice," your counter argument isn't particularly strong, but you're not in the mood to think of a better one.
"Clearly," Armand says, the comment nearly inaudible.
You push his arm off of your leg. "I should let you be cold."
"It was a joke," he argues, immediately reaching for you again.
Even though you're not actually annoyed, you're not ready to let him think things are okay yet. You shift back as you pull away from him. Armand is quick to follow, his hand latching onto your forearm. You try slipping out of his grasp, but he must notice the smile you can't fully suppress because he doesn't let go.
Armand leans forward with no warning, his hand moving onto your shoulder to push you back until there's no space between you and the headboard. He's not exactly pinning you in place, but something tells you that the only reason he isn't forcing you to stay still is because you're already doing so willingly.
You're used to occasionally play fighting with Louis, but something about Armand's hand on your shoulder feels different, tenser almost. Maybe it's because Louis goes out of his way to make you feel like you have a chance at winning.
He's so quiet, a part of you thinks that he might be waiting for you to speak first. When you don't take the opportunity to break the silence, he does it for you, "I was joking."
"I'm sure," you're surprised by the flatness of your own voice.
He watches you for another moment, his eyes scanning over your features. Instead of focusing on what he might be seeing, you decide to concentrate on his eyes. There's a bit of game in trying to figure out where they fall on the amber-to-brown scale, and tonight they seem to be teetering towards the darker end of the spectrum.
Armand squeezes your shoulder before letting go of you. He eases away from you slowly, settling much closer to you than he was before. He still feels colder than you're used to him being.
You're not sure where you're meant to go from here, so you begin to bend the fabric of the bedsheets between your fingers, pinching it together just to smooth it out again.
"I can go now, if you guys want." The words come out almost as casually as you want them to. "It's late, I should probably go to sleep soon anyway."
Louis's reactions to your attempts at calling it a night vary. If he thinks you're genuinely tired, he won't think twice about it. However, if he's not convinced, he might push for you to stay for a little longer. You wouldn't mind hanging out for a little longer, but it seems like a good idea to start laying the ground work.
Louis takes your hand before responding, "You should just stay in here tonight."
The idea of sleeping in their room isn't particularly strange. It's happened enough times for Louis's offer to not feel out of place, but that doesn't mean it's common. More often than not, when you do end up sleeping in here, it's not something that gets discussed first.
"I sleep better when you're here." When you don't say anything, Louis continues, "And Armand's freezing."
At the mention of his name, Armand takes your other hand, "I'm freezing."
Neither of them seemed that concerned about that fact until now, but there's little to get from pointing that out.
You really do like staying with them. Louis traces patterns against your arm while you try to fall asleep and sometimes Armand does the same. They stay up later than you for obvious reasons, but you don't mind it. When you're trying to sleep, they talk in quiet, soft voices that are as soothing as the sound of steady rainfall.
After a minute, you think to respond, "Okay." And then, feeling a little awkward about your sudden acceptance, you tack on a clumsy, "If that's--uh--okay with everyone."
Armand lifts your hand, bringing the back of your palm to his lips. The gesture feels so fragile you can't bring yourself to look at him. "What's another night with you in my bed?"
You adjust your hold on Louis's hand to have something to do. "What a kind perspective."
He pulls your arm towards him, setting your intertwined hands on his lap. Even through the material of his pajama pants, you can feel how cold he still is. "I try."
You're too focused on the coolness of his skin to care about continuing any banter. Slowly, as if not to startle him, you slip your hand out of his hold before setting your palm against his knee. You drag your thumb against the fabric covering him in an attempt at forcing some warmth into his skin. "You're still so cold."
It takes Armand a moment to respond, and once he finally does, his voice is little more than a whisper, "it will pass."
Knowing that his discomfort will eventually pass isn't good enough for you. "I can't believe you went out like that." Letting out a small sigh, you continue to smooth your palm against his knee. "No sense of self preservation."
"Says the girl in bed with two vampires."
Ignoring the slight warmth that's beginning inching its way up your chest, you scoff, "Please." The vampire thing can only come off as threatening for so long, especially when it comes from him. "You guys aren't scary."
"Really?" Even though you're not looking at Louis, you can hear the smile in his voice as he asks the question.
You turn your head to look at Louis, smiling at him, "Really."
Louis pulls your arm towards him, the motion a little sudden but not harsh. You instinctually begin to try to twist your hand out of his hold. This is a game you're used to. After a few moments of struggling, Louis lets you slip out of his grasp just to catch you again.
"You're going to break her arm." Armand sighs, as exasperated as he always is when reminding you of the risks of roughhousing.
You bend your arm, fighting to hold in a laugh as Louis latches onto your wrist at the last second. "He's not going to do anything."
Ignoring your words, Louis stills. He places a quick kiss against your palm before setting your hand down. You frown, letting yourself half-slump-half-lie-down in protest. "Armand."
Letting out another sigh, Armand angles himself to look at you. His expression remains blank as he begins to drag his nails up your inner arm. "You are as breakable as glass."
You're aware of your fragility, but that doesn't mean you need Louis reminded of it constantly. "So I've heard."
Armand is studying you so carefully you can't help but feel like he's trying to find something specific. He must not find it, because he lets out a small breath before saying, "You shouldn't hold my ability to be realistic against me."
You press your lips together into a thin line. It's not like you're genuinely angry at him for what he said, but you don't love the way he went about saying it. Louis is already constantly worried about accidentally hurting you.
"I'm not," you say, extending your arm slightly as you search for Louis's hand. He lets you bend your fingers in between his.
Armand places a hand against your shoulder, his thumb dragging itself against your collar bone. "Okay," he starts slowly, "as long as you're not mad at me."
Hm...the answer is weirdly complacent. As if sensing your suspicion, he begins to move slowly. Armand shifts carefully, his hand moving off of your shoulder. He starts moving to lie down, but instead of remaining on his side, he turns towards you. Before you can ask him what he's doing, he lies down practically on top of you, his head coming to rest against your chest.
You sigh, forcing as much annoyance into the sound as possible. Despite playing into your lingering irritation, you still place a hand against his back. He still feels colder than usual. "I didn't say I was happy with you."
Instead of ignoring or trying to get around the sarcastic comment, Armand has the audacity to directly acknowledge it, "Will you?"
The request takes you by such surprise, you almost convince yourself that you've misheard him. You turn your head towards Louis, your expression trying to indicate some kind of question that you don't fully understand but still trust him to.
You smooth small circles against his upper back. "My darling Armand, I am very happy with you. You're wonderful."
His hold on you tightens, his fingers pressing into your side. Sometimes, you really do enjoy his closeness. "Are you cold?"
"No." You're not as warm as you were before he was this close, but you're also not freezing. Thinking about him being cold is more uncomfortable than his proximity. "More worried than cold."
You can feel Armand's nod against your shoulder. "I did feed tonight," he says, "I should be warmer soon."
"You'd be a lot warmer if you had stayed in tonight," Louis mumbles.
"Or worn an actual coat," you tack on.
Armand sighs, a quick burst of air that you can feel against the side of your neck. "I'm capable of taking care of myself."
Clearly, which is why he's currently leaching off of your natural warmth. You'd remind him of why he's in his current position now, but you're too comfortable to risk conflict.
Armand stays silent and still for so long it becomes difficult to justify your belief that he's not trying to fall asleep yet. Your eyelids begin to grow heavy as you wait for him to speak again.
You're somewhere between sleep and consciousness when you feel Armand shift. He's adjusting the hem of his shirt, pulling it up enough to reveal his lower back. It takes you a second to think to see the change as anything.
Once you finally do, you move your arm slowly, letting your palm settle against his bare skin. If you were any more awake, you'd have the energy needed to comment on how cold he still is.
