bestie brushing/styling armandās hair and instead of telling him when sheās finished, she leans forward and presses a kiss to his shoulder. she does it so often that armand learns to see it as her way of telling him that heās free to move again.
when armand helps bestie with a zipper, a necklace clasp, or her hair, he starts doing the same thing.
something about them developing silent signals is so endearing to me. they know each other so well, they can express things to each other without words <3
i think lestat would have mixed feelings about bestie babying him. on one hand, he does not need to be treated like a child, especially by someone who might be pitying him.
however, on the other, heās so starved of normal affection and he likes when bestie brushes his hair before she goes to bed and when she tells him that his music is good :(
I think bestie would be incredibly understanding about Lestat and his trauma with Gabrielle because first of all sheās grown up in a time that has way more information about how harmful those kinds of relationships are and how itās genuinely never the childās fault even and especially if theyāre conditioned to like it and seek after it. I think she would be so heartbroken and sick over it like genuinely.
I donāt know if sheās ever seen Lestat in that kind of light before or even just one that wasnāt blinding and confident and just like so unapologetically him I think she would immediately feel so maternal and protective of him. Obviously not in the same way she does with Armand but still like āthat poor boy he deserved to be protectedā kind of way.
Also I think Lestat would be genuinely devastated at the sight of her crying or trying to hold back tears when she finds out because it would hit him so hard
When Louis found out about it he was justifiably horrified especially because Lestatās first instinct was to defend it, he genuinely doesnāt know what else to do with himself but defend it because of the shame and the years and years of pain and trauma
Also him throwing up genuinely made me need to pause because that was such a childlike gut instinct. This relationship that heās never truly felt safe or stable in being showed to someone else and being met with basically a mirror of his own shame and self hate and confusion from the person he loves most in the world
Itās not that he didnāt know it was wrong but thatās his mommy sheās the only person who even began to understand him how could he ever say no to her no matter how confusing it is or uncomfortable it makes him feel
Bestie would genuinely be distraught at the thought of it, or god forbid seeing any of it
I think she would feel an overwhelming need to just sit with him and hold his hand for a little
Also side note: Armand would be sick seeing her comfort him bc first of all why is she being so gentle with Lestat and not him and second of the fact that the comfort and gentleness sheās giving is in the context of childhood sexual assault would, for lack of better words, touch something in him that I donāt know if he knows how to deal with or process. It would sit with him and make him feel sick that despite whatās happened she can only see the good and the child that needed protection from an abuser even if that abuse is still happening and the abuser is his mom. Armand canāt even forgive or even really fully understand what happened to him how and why can she be so forgiving especially to Lestat of all people
Iām so angsty about Lestat and his relationship with Gabrielle. Like get away from him, heās just a baby š
Bestie really would be the most understanding about it. Sheād probably feel some shock and discomfort right after finding out, but sheād never feel disgusted by Lestat. It would never occur to her to blame him for that.
Like you said, Bestie has a modern understanding of incestuous relationships and consent. A child can never consent to an adult, especially not a parental figure that has groomed them into thinking that they want that kind of relationship with them.
Sheād be so heartsick, especially after seeing the way Lestat still seeks out Gabrielle for affection and comfort. After finding out about their romantic relationship, I think Bestie would instantly clock that itās rooted in Lestatās desire to have her really look at him.
Bestie would feel so maternal over Lestat after finding out. Like you said, itās obviously different than the way she feels when she wants to take care of Armand. Lestat would just seem so vulnerable and in need of someone to keep him safe that sheād have to do something to āprotectā him.
Heād seem so different from the larger than life persona in that moment. I think Lestat might have a harder time watching Bestie almost tear up than he would have if she seemed disgusted. Her transparent sadness would make him think about how depressing his relationship with Gabrielle really is.
The scene of Lestat throwing up punched me in a gut. When he saw someone he loves be repulsed by their relationship, he couldnāt deflect anymore. It did feel particularly childlike, and the way that he only calmed down after Louis comforted him. Ugh thatās what heās been looking for the entire time :(
Bestie really would be distraught after hearing about Lestat and Gabrielleās relationship or, even worse, seeing a part of it. Sheād be so overwhelmed by the need to just sit with him for a bit, quietly holding his hand and dragging her thumb over his knuckles soothingly.
The side note is so good and so interesting to think about. Armand would be sick over Bestie comforting Lestat, especially over a trauma that heās also experienced. Seeing her be able to look beyond a person and their actions so that she can comfort the wounded child would make Armand so emotional.
It would make him think about a lot of things he doesnāt know how to deal with. Armand has such a complicated relationship with his past trauma. I think there are parts of it he doesnāt fully understand and maybe even parts of it he doesnāt see as wrong.
Heād be so confused and distressed by Bestieās willingness to give Lestat so much grace over his relationship with Gabrielle. How can she have so much sympathy and understanding for Lestat of all people?
Armand really should have a long conversation with Bestie about his trauma. I think heād be a little scared to be that vulnerable with her, though. Maybe seeing the way she reacts to Lestatās traumatic relationship might make it easier for him to open up to her.
I have never cared for the concept of baby fever Armand but you are lowkey changing my mind actually haha, like yeah he would want a baby with Bestie š„ŗ
Iām not a baby fever/pregnancy trope person in general, but I can kind of see it with him. Like yes heād want to have that with Bestie. Itās another way for him to tie himself to her, and heād find the thought of a child that reflects parts of him and Bestie so endearing.
Idk itās also something I can imagine him being a little angsty about.
If Bestie gets pregnant, Armand and her literally won't be able to keep their hands off each other. You thought they were insufferably horny before? Well, get ready for pregnancy hormones making her so much more sensitive and needy! Sex becomes an important part of the daily regimen š„° he's gotta keep her body happy for all the hard work it's doing, after all! She deserves a reward :) many rewards :)
Also, I imagine if pregnant Bestie is crying over something silly- nothing sad, just pregnancy hormones getting triggered- Armand would be absolutely feral with cuteness aggression. His baby is carrying a baby and she needs him sooooo much. That sweet condescension is coming back with a vengeance at times like these. She's just a poor little lovebug rn she literally needs him!!!
Oh theyād be insufferable. Theyāre all over each other constantly. Sleeping together becomes a part of their daily routine. Her body is working so hard, she deserves to be taken care of :)
Armand is so willing to accommodate her hormonal changes. If Bestie needs to have sex at least once a day, then thatās what theyāll do. Heās doing anything he can to help ease her physical discomfort.
Ugh. His cuteness aggression towards hormonal, overly emotional Bestie would be so intense. Thatās his baby and sheās having a baby, and she needs him so much. Itās the cutest thing heās ever seen.
No one else is going to go out at night and search for a specific fruit because thatās what sheās craving or comfort her when she tears up over a video of unlikely animal companions. Armand loves being there to fuss over her endlessly.
children of darkness armand and bestie are so peak gothic romance. heās so āevery beat of your heart is an insult to my existence, and a terrible comfort i canāt will myself to let go ofā about her.
i love the thought of armand finally hearing bestie say āi love youā to him. heās melting immediately, he might even struggle to not tear up, especially if itās casual.
she loves him. the most wonderful person he knows loves him. ugh. he could explode.
Do you think Bestie is at all aware of the Arun/Maitre dynamic that Armand and Louis have going on bc I feel like she'd be like "š¬ y'all need so much therapy jesus christ"
I think Louis would know better than to call Armand a name that reminds him of being a slave just to make him feel like one in front of Bestie š
Maybe theyād be able to get away with it if they never tell Bestie about Armandās original name?
If Bestie did find out, sheād feel so instinctively protective of Armand, but sheād be a little hesitant to react.
She doesnāt want to say anything that might make it seem like sheās too sensitive or immature to be involved, but it doesnāt sit well with her. The fact that theyāve been doing it for so long might make her think that Armand really is okay with it.
Bestie would definitely ask Armand if heās okay with it, if heās happy. Heād feel so emotional about this but would play it off. Armand would give her a vague answer along the lines of āIām fine, and Iām happier now that we have you.ā
Heās bringing up the name the second Armand wants to turn Bestie against Louis though š Which isnāt entirely unfair considering the circumstances.
Heās going to melt the first time she kisses him on the cheek.
Heās melting immediately. I can imagine Armand and Bestie speaking to each other in the theater while itās nearly empty or in Bestieās bedroom after Armand sneaks in through the window.
Lestat or Nicki call for her, which is what usually signals the end of their private interactions. Bestie tells Armand that she has to go.
Heās about to protest because she shouldnāt feel so comfortable dismissing him (he just doesnāt want her to go), but Bestie leans towards him before he can complain. She presses her lips to the side of his face.
Armand forgets how to think. He feels warmer than he did before, like she burned him with the contact. She rushes off to find Lestat and Nicki before he has to respond, a small mercy.
He spends hours thinking about the contact. The heat of her skin as she leaned towards him, the easiness of the gesture, as if sheās been kissing his cheek as a way of saying goodbye to him her entire life.
Heās elated, heās ready to run off with her, heās frustrated with himself for caring, and heās a little disgusted by his own weakness. This Armand feels every feeling at the same time.
Armand is pulling up the costs of fidgets on his iPad to argue about market value and examining the toys for signs of authenticity like he does Louis' paintings
Iām crying heād be so serious about it š Heād be looking up each fidget and rejecting trades based on market value. Bestie is the only one he lets āwinā by giving her the trades she wants.
