One of the terrifying things about chronic illness is watching time slip away from you. You spend almost all of your time just surviving, and like that you watch days turn into months and months turn into years and the time you have in which to do things slip away from you. But the pain and fatigue and the shear difficulty of living won't let up enough for you to actually live your life, so you just have to keep watching it pass you by.

Iranian-Azerbaijani rug (ca. 1965) celebrating the successes of Soviet space travel.

Designed by Jafar Mujiri, the rug seems to have been commissioned by Iran's communist Tudeh Party to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Soviet-backed Azerbaijan People's Government in Iranian Azerbaijan in 1945 (dissolved in 1946).

The rug shows a cosmonaut flying to space from Moscow, with rockets and satellites zooming around him. The border is decorated with a portrait of Lenin as well as portraits of various cosmonauts including Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova, Gherman Titov and others.
