“ what? ya thought you were the only one who liked lookin’ at the ocean during the night? ” marshall simply plops in the sand beside the stranger, stretching out his arms and legs with a yawn. yes, he absolutely gets comfortable way too quickly. but that wasn’t anything new.

“ i don’t blame ya. ‘s nice ‘n quiet, not to mention there ain’t no sun. that’s the best part. ”

“ psh. you mortals are so cute sometimes, y’know that? ” marshall drops the color-drained apple onto the ground, folding his arms with a chuckle.

“ gimme another red thing. i’ll do it again for ya. ”

“ Watch yourself, boy.” The ghoul quickly closed the distance between them. He could crush this man’s skull in less than a second, and he was in the right mood to do just that. This man, he looked just like that vampire who helped Iori rescue Dio.  “ You look a lot like some lady who stole from me. Can’t say I enjoyed the reminder.”

oh great. looks like his big mouth is going to get him into more trouble than he wanted. it just be like that sometimes, unfortunately. marshall doesn’t flinch when the ghoul steps up towards him. in fact, he maintains his cool composure, shoving his hands into his pockets while staring him down. 

“well ain’t that a shame?” 

dammit marceline.

“whatever problems ya got with whoever, they ain’t mine to shoulder. so cool it hotshot.”

“soooooo. what. you just gonna stand there ‘n keep givin’ me looks like i don’t notice ya, or do i gotta coax ya into callin’ me a freak. like, c’mon buddy. i don’t got all day for these games.”

and there it is, numbers just don’t lie. you see, just like the ones displayed on-screen. she may not be much of a threat against her uncle (dammit, where did he learn how to play like that well anyway?) but she is still very much decent.

“man, you’re such a sore loser!” she pats his shoulder whilst containing a chuckle. “i suppose we’ll be here for a while if you’re gonna be like that. buuut–” she chuckle whilst cracking the knuckles of her left hand only to resume her earlier grip on the joystick. “it’s not like i’m complaining, y’know?” and then she begins that not subtle button mashing the moment ‘start’ is on-screen, and perhaps she’ll have to pay for some damaged goods after they’re done but that’s the last of her concerns right now. “cause i missed you a lot marsh.” oh that’s just low, isn’t it? talking about feelings, calling sweet nicknames… yang is out for your wig and another victory.

"what! no i ain’t. don’t be spreadin’ those lies.” he’s pouting, of course. because it’s nothing but the truth. but all the while he does manage to sneak a grin out between all of the salt. that much was short-lived when they had returned to the action, marshall rolling his shoulders before settling his fingers on the corresponding buttons.

it would have started off well--! if not for such a blatant form of personal betrayal. 

“ohhh no no. don’t you start doin’ that to me. bein’ emo ‘n shit. cuz it ain’t gonna work.” yes it is. he’s already a few points behind. oh the price he pays for mutual feelings.

“... why do you hate me, yangarang.”

A pause as he actually got a look at who he was speaking to. Another pause immediately followed as Travis processed things.

“Uh, Marceline…?”

well, he was not exactly surprised to be mistaken for someone else. looks as though his counterpart made quite the name for herself. in a good way hopefully. who wouldn’t want to be friends (or enemies, which was also possible) with someone as rad as her?

“heh, y’know her?”

“s’my twin yo. hope y’all ain’t beefin’ or nothin’. cuz i aint here to clean up any mess she’s made.”

instead of being merciful to the poor vampire king, the other pulls out a picture book and cracks it open to hell on earth!

“This is a tuna fish, mayo, vinegar, cheese, cottage cheese and lime jello salad. My mom made it try and bring back something she used to it.”

oh yeah. he forgot that used to be a thing. the fact that this is still around should be highly illegal. the vampire’s face twists into a look of disgust, turning slightly to look at the young girl, then back to the picture book.

“yikes.”

“yo who the hell puts raisins in cherry jello. like--” he turns the cup upside down for a moment, the dessert not even moving an inch out of its container. its stuck there. super appetizing. 

“what is this garbage.”

Weiss couldn’t help but roll her eyes again as Marshall turned away and pouted for a bit, much like a child would. Of course, the heiress wasn’t going to chastise him for it. It was charming, in a way. Luckily for Weiss, her meek little smile was enough to get Marshall properly on the ground and right-side up.

She hardly gave him time to motion for her to come forward before she rushed towards him, throwing both of her arms ‘round his middle and promptly burying her face in his chest with a grin and a soft giggle.

“You’re obnoxiously tall, you know that?” She teased, her voice practically oozing with affection. She lingered in the embrace for a few moments longer before pulling back, her smile never once dimming. “I missed you.”

a soft oof was heard as weiss slammed into him, the vampire slinging an arm around her to hold her close. trying to play it cool was not going to cut it for this particular reunion. the two had, oddly enough, shared a unique bond with one another. though not every secret had been spilled nor every occasion was spent by each other’s side, it was enough. enough for them to grow closer through both experience and mutual respect. 

not a friendship one would expect. but it was heartwarming, nonetheless. 

“naw. yer just very short.” marshall laughed a bit, arm tightening around her shoulders just a tad as he gave her a playful noogie. he had ceased before causing any initial damage to her appearance of course, grip loosening to provide more comfort unto her.

“i missed ya too, bud.”
