A twilight comic (it came to me in a dream)
it came to my realization that 99% of my fandom related headaches would be cured if everyone understood this
i've said it before but it will forever and always make me insane that jacob's ending is to join the cullens for the sake of bella not having to give anything up. they find out jake will be immortal & tied to renesmee forever, so bella gets to smile & say "my family is finally complete! ^-^" but jake already HAS a family. he has a father and 2 sisters. quil, embry, seth and sam are like his brothers. jacob and leah were planning to run away together. he's always been welcome in emily's home, sue has been a family friend since before his birth. bella abandons her mortality by choice because she feels no connection to the people around her, but jacob has really strong bonds. it's clear that every character we meet in la push is like family to him, he's an active member of the community. jake would've graduated high school and been a mechanic, would've grown into a young man. a good friend, a fun uncle, a present son. he's set up to have such a rich life. and he's just magically compelled to give that up. beyond his control, he loses sight of everything, because his high school crush's baby is now the singular most important thing to him. he's perpetually 18 with his perpetually 18 year old girlfriend, running around vancouver or alaska or wherever with the girl who friendzoned him at 16 & her in-laws (who were antagonistic to him for months). and i'm just supposed to say omg yay now he doesn't have to let go of bella! everyone is happy! it's complete madness
What's interesting about the "Bella is so good at controlling herself" thing is that it goes against the patterns with the other Cullens. That is, the ones who had negative reactions to becoming vampires (Carlisle, Rosalie, Edward) have the best control. Even when contrasted with Emmett and Esme, who are generally "good" people! They both, according to canon, kind of just took becoming a vampire in stride, they didn't have the horror reaction, the anger, the crisis of faith stuff. Emmett saw Rosalie as an angel who saved him. Esme didn't think vampirism could be so bad if the man of her dreams and her new son were vampires, etc. And they've both slipped up and killed people, when Carlisle, Rose and Edward have not (Rose and Edward have killed people on purpose -- but Rose never drank the blood).
And it makes sense to me that those who are on some level repulsed by their own vampirism would have more success in restraining themselves. It makes sense that Carlisle, son of a vampire-hunting pastor, would try to starve himself in the woods rather than take becoming a vampire in stride. Rosalie hates being a vampire and sees eating animals -- like many humans do! -- as a way to have some control over her life and to be more like a human. Edward hates himself and sees himself as a monster until Bella helps him (allegedly) gain some new perspective. But on some deep level these three are the ones really fighting what they have become in a way the other Cullens didn't. Alice has no reason to fight it; she remembers nothing else. Emmett and Esme "took it in stride." Jasper likewise doesn't seem to have a problem with being a vampire so much as the particular style of vampire life he was reborn into. I feel like he sees being a vampire as a morally neutral thing; you wouldn't be mad at a shark or a lion doing what a shark or a lion does, but HE personally has his gift that makes the experience of feeding on humans unpleasant.
But then there's Bella, who doesn't take becoming a vampire 'in stride' so much as it makes her want to laugh and sing. She feels fulfilled and happy and like her real self and like, good for you, girl. Follow your bliss! Her self-control, though, breaks the pattern established by the rest of the family that those who resisted, resented, hated their vampirism were the most successful at self-control.
And I know it's probably a Main Character thing and all that, but it's interesting to ponder and makes me wonder if she'll become too confident, too lax, and will one day meet someone who sets her throat on fire and will be totally unprepared to restrain herself.
I'll do you one better and say that when that happens she won't be bothered by it. Yes, she will be ashamed that she failed and broke her record and fucked up, but she won't be bothered that she killed someone. Also, I imagine that Edward will be horrified and while trying to console her, he would also be disgusted while pretending he is not. Edward's rejection is what will worry Bella the most, not that she killed someone, because that's a risk she took when becoming a vampire, but that now Edward won't look at ger the same way 😂
Esme and Carlisle just standing there like “What the fuck did he just call her”
Cersei has done some messed up things throughout the books, but the one thing I will never bash her for is having Jaime’s children instead of Roberts. She’s stuck in an abusive marriage where she’s r*ped, hit, and expected to play the perfect wife while Robert does whatever he wants.
Tbh, I was rooting for her when she chipped Robert’s tooth.
Quote:
For Robert, those nights never happened. Come morning he remembered nothing, or so he would have had her believe. Once, during the first year of their marriage, Cersei had voiced her displeasure the next day. “You hurt me,” she complained. He had the grace to look ashamed. “It was not me, my lady,” he said in a sulky sullen tone, like a child caught stealing apple cakes from the kitchen. “It was the wine. I drink too much wine.” To wash down his admission, he reached for his horn of ale. As he raised it to his mouth, she smashed her own horn in his face, so hard she chipped a tooth. Years later at a feast, she heard him telling a serving wench how he'd cracked the tooth in a mêlée. Well, our marriage was a mêlée, she reflected, so he did not lie.
A Feast For Crows - Cersei VII
In a series where it’s constantly shown how nobles have to marry for duty and stay in those marriages regardless of how they feel, I have respect for characters who try to have some sort of happiness.
Shout out to all the characters who got together, married, and/or had children for love.

love the idea that the Volturi collect newspapers from all over the world so they can watch out for rogue vamps. bc they're not out there doing that shit. really, some poor intern/human-wannabe-vamp is just running around sifting through the daily papers like an editorial assistant working the slush pile at a trad publishing company. underpaid, overworked, crying on lunch breaks, chugging cold burnt coffee, desperately trying & failing to unionize, etc.
If Bella stuck with 'EJ' for a girl, her name would be:
Edwina Jacobina
Elizabeth Juliet
Esmernee Jacward
Edythe Jesssamine
Emmettalie Jasplice
Esme Junior
Elizabeth Jane (Austen not Volturi)
Esrenemee Jedwarcob
Other?
Y’all think Charlie Swan ever invited Carlisle Cullen over to watch the Mariners play and since Carlisle (and his family) love baseball soooo much he went all out and came over in a jersey and a platter of buffalo wings and was just so excited to watch the game with someone, and it’s made even better by the fact it’s a human who invited him over, a human who wanted to spend this time with him bc he’s always a little worried that he’s the monster his father always warned him about
Who would you pick as your vampiric creator?
Amun
Aro
Maria
Carlisle
Victoria
Edward
Siobhan
Boris (Laurent's creator)
Astaroth Prince of Hell aka George (Alistair's creator)
Sasha (the Denali mother)
Kachiri (Amazon leader)
Luca (creator of Renata and Makenna and others from his family line)
These are only ones who actually ever created another vampire in canon. Maybe we can do another one with vampires who haven't turned anyone yet if you want to roll the dice and see if they can do it without killing you.

what makes me actually boil with rage is the way it’s framed as though jacob & the cullens have an even rivalry and like, he hates them just as much as they hate him, but like… jacob is a lower class kid who lives on the rez, the cullens live in a plantation home on private property. jacob calling alice a leech is an insult, but alice calling him a mongrel calls into power and privilege, ya know. like am i supposed to honestly think jake making blonde jokes to rosalie (which is certainly sexist and uncalled for) is on the same level as her serving him food in a dog dish? him seeing the cullens as bloodsuckers and murderers is just like, incorrect and unfair, but them seeing him as uncivilized and over-aggressive has implications deeply rooted in the oppression of his people
