Ghost Hex

A devious hex that causes the target to become the victim of an unsettled spirit's torment. This spirit will be attached to them and once done, this hex is difficult to undo.

Needed:

• Bowl

• 1 tsp red pepper

• 1tsp poppy seeds

• Black cloth (one piece, enough to cover the inside of the bowl)

• Small dish

• 3 tsp salt or 5 quartz crystals

Instructions:

Line the inside of the bowl with black cloth and add the red pepper and poppy flakes. Place the bowl on the South end of the altar space (closest to you). Place the small dish in the center of the altar space, place the salt/quartz around the dish in a circle, then fill it with water. Visualize a white light emanating from the small dish, protecting you; then chant: "Your power is useless, my defenses are not down, and I shall not be moved or turned around". For the bowl containing the cloth and herbs, imagine black ash pouring outward from within the bowl. Imagine it building up more and more, you may even begin to smell smoke and/or feel hot/cold/tingling sensations, now imagine the source of the ash coming up from the bowl. Recite the following incantation: "Hexiaus, Drexious, Amen", then say your target's full name 3 times. Finally, imagine the ash mass flying upward and away to your target and the white light consuming your home and being, purifying it of any negative energy. The ritual is now complete.

Stone Hex

To give a person horrid luck for a given amount of time.

Find a smooth stone and spit on it. Whisper their name over it. Turn it thrice counterclockwise.

"With this stone, I turn your fate,

misfortune shall be your mate,

until again I turn the one

on blessed path of setting sun."

The person shall suffer misfortune on top of misfortune until you take the stone in the same hand and turn it thrice clockwise.

War Water

War Water (also called Iron Water) is a powerful tool in witchcraft used for protection, hexing, banishing, and warding off enemies. It originates from Hoodoo, Appalachian folk magic, and other mystical traditions.

Uses of War Water:

• Protection – Sprinkle around your home to create a spiritual barrier.

• Banishing – Throw it where unwanted people have walked to remove their influence.

• Cursing – Toss onto an enemy’s property to bring discord and bad luck.

• Warding Off Negativity – Add to floor washes or sprinkle near entrances.

• In Spellwork - Use in rituals for breaking curses, creating wards, or calling upon warrior spirits.

Needed:

• Rusty nails (or iron shavings or railroad spikes)

• Water (preferably storm or river water for extra potency)

• Salt (black salt for cursing, sea salt for protection)

• Cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes (for aggression and strength)

• Vinegar – Used to sour relationships in cursing spells.

• Mugwort or Rue – For added spiritual power.

Instructions:

Place the rusty nails or iron in a jar. If your nails aren’t rusty, leave them in water for a few weeks to oxidize. Fill the jar with water. Use stormwater for aggressive energy, river water for powerful flow, or tap water if necessary. Add salt and herbs and let it sit for at least a week. The longer it sits, the stronger it becomes. Some witches let it develop for months. Shake or stir when using, the rust, herbs, and salt should be well mixed before application.

Here’s yet another creature to add to your roster of dark Christmas characters: the Yule Goat.

The Yule Goat was a Nordic tradition where a guy dressed as a goat would barge into people’s houses during the Christmas feast and be as unpleasant as possible. Sometimes he’d just make a lot of noise, sometimes he’d tell raunchy stories with a lot of faul language, but he’d also tell unpleasant truths about the people in the house.

To make him stop people had to give him food or other treats and it was believed he’d take all the bad things with him when he left the house so people could enter the new year free of last year’s burdens, almost as a sort of scapegoat except he WANTED your sins/food.

Today the only Yule Goats you’re likely to see are ones made of straw.

Boophone disticha

This wonderful bulb belongs to the Amaryllis Family, and it has a big distribution in southern Africa and northward into tropical Africa. It is left alone by grazing animals because it is poisonous, and its juice is sometimes used for making poison arrows. Its flowers are small, but there are many of them, and they change color from white to pink to red as they age. This species is also very attractive when not in flower, on account of its fan of wavy bluish leaves.

🔮 Absolutely random, assorted facts from my experience with Tarot:

You can set rules with your deck. Don’t like reversed cards? Don’t pull them. Don’t interpret them. Request not to get them. Don’t care about the position of the card and want only its meaning? Ask for it.

You can pull confirmation cards. If you are working with a companion, you can set up their personal confirmation card. If you’re working with the deck and the general universe, you can pick a feel-good card (or a rare card if you want) and request it whenever you want to get a vibecheck.

You can repull. If it feels weird, it probably is weird. If you keep pulling the same card all over again, it’s probably correct. But if you pulled one weird one that just doesn’t seem like it belongs, repull. Your deck - your rules.

You don’t need to sweat too much over “official meanings”. So what if the Tower means “something bad”? If it means something positive for you, go with your feelings first. Each practitioner will have their own associations with the cards. I for one quite like the Tower, but I genuinely hate getting the High Priestess. It’s individual.

You don’t need to work with a specific Deity, spirit, or daemon. The cards are powerful tools without any additional presence.

You can assign a deck to a particular entity. I have four decks, out of which three belong to (a) companion(s) of mine. This is completely individual and fully relies on who you want to touch your cards.

You can confuse the cards. When the reading starts to feel like it just reiterates your feelings, it probably is. Or you worded your question badly and the cards don’t know what to tell you. Or you already know the answer. Or maybe something else.

You might be turning your spread into multiple spreads. If your session with tarot can be broken into a number of smaller sessions, you are probably overworking yourself. It helps to step back and think whether or not your multi-card spread turned into a multitude of smaller spreads. Is that why nothing is making sense?

You might be told to read cards some other time. Bias, moods, instability, or the cards just being not in the good state - all of these can affect whether they agree to work with you in the first place. I’ve had decks that stayed “silent” for months on and decks that were willing to work with me every day. It depends.
