the like meta narrative of all about eve and applause will never not make me crazy. what do you mean lauren bacall who loved bette davis and like went to the hotel she was staying at just to like sneak around and see her then played bette davis’s character in the musical adaptation of all about eve which is about eve who follows around margo played by bette davis because she wants to become (like) her. what do you mean anne baxter who played eve in the film then replaced lauren bacall as margo on broadway… eve becoming margo for real… what do you mean rita hayworth was in consideration or whatever to replace lauren bacall instead of anne baxter rita hayworth who had an affair with gary merrill who was of course married to bette davis after they met on the set of all about eve. and this is before i even get into the lore of the wisdom of eve and the two mrs carrolls (or the tallulah bankhead lizabeth scott possible alternate origin story. which lends its own insanity bc while people do compare margo to tallulah already like. bette played multiple tallulah roles adapted for the screen. and of course I mean there’s already the bette replacing claudette colbert in all about eve of it all) and of course the earlier cycles at play in women and fame an obsession which all about eve is of course about like bette davis following greta garbo around because she was obsessed with her.
