The Ignition & The Key || Trav & Ez
Ezra frowned, reaching forward and swiping Travis’ lower lip with his thumb. “You’re such a slob,” he spoke fondly, a small half smile breaking his angry mother façade. He kept his hand on Trav’s shoulder, his thumb automatically stroking the tender skin that stretched across Trav’s collar bone. He didn’t know whether he was trying to comfort the other boy or seek out comfort in the gentle touch. Ezra watched as Travis’ face changed, the light, relaxed look he portrayed soon changed to one of pain and sorrow. He looked away quickly, feeling tears burn in the back of his throat, already embarrassed and ashamed that he had let himself break down and cry in front of Trav. “Don’t look at me like that, I’ll get a cavity,” he forced himself to joke, knowing that if he were serious for a moment it would cause him to weep again, and that was the last thing they needed in the middle of Dairy Queen. Ezra glanced at Travis again, smiling a small watery smile, bringing the hand on the other boy’s shoulder to the side of his face. “Eat your ice cream before it melts, doofus.”
Travis' face brightened in an impossible instant, "Do you even get to call me names?" it was hard not to smile, especially with Ez's hand on his face. He took another scoop of Ezra's ice cream before sweeping his own bar off the table. He slouched in his seat and smirked at Ez as he took a cracking bite of the chocolate coating, and set his free hand on the other boy's leg. He strummed his thumb along Ezra's jeans as he took another bite, "I thought name calling was my thing." Travis raised his eyebrows and to lighten the mood further, he could see the stinging tears well in the corners of Ez's eyes. A dull pain hitched in his chest, and Travis knew it was guilt, or perhaps it was simply his every instinct telling him to wrap around Ezra again. He thought he'd save it until later. Instead, he took another bite of his ice cream bar.Â
