Heyyy... I downloaded this app to see if I dared to share something with the public. Apparently, almost everything here is in English, but I'm not fluent in English, so I use a translator. LOL I just hope I don't make it too cringeworthy. XD 🤭 What I do here is non-profit.
I want to start by saying that I discovered this ship last November on Ao3. My sister had told me that you could find a lot of fanfics on that site.So I wanted to see if Shang-Chi had anything. (I really liked his movie!!) 🤭 One day I got a Shang-Chi pfp and ran it through Google Lens, then it sent me to Tumblr and I discovered that this ship was born here. (Well, at least it seems that way) T_T
And well, I downloaded this app just to say that I think this ship is really cute. LOL ^w^ I've attached a drawing I made of them, from the famous "Wanna Make Out?" art trend.
ShangQuin Summer Bingo 2026 - "Pets or Animal Encounter" Fill
Oh, Biiiiiiig Stretch!
Rated M, 4,696 words; complete
Summary: Shangqi takes Joaquin to visit his aunt in Ta Lo. During their visit, Joaquin decides it is crucial that he pet the biggest cat he's ever seen.
As of the date of this post there are over 25 fics for the Shang-Chi/Joaquin Torres tag on AO3! Can you believe it!
(Shangqi showing everyone all the fics of him and Joaquin now)
In 2022, there was just one Shangquin fic
In 2023, we had a total of two
In 2024, we got three! More! Fics!
In 2025, we got seven! That's so many to link but here's a few of them!
Captain America and the Falcon Attend the New Orleans Red Dress Run by @questinwitchface
Floor collapsing, floating by @dino-dancer
Don't Leave me in the Dark by @oimoitalaina (that's me lol)
So far in 2026 (drumroll please!) we have gotten 14 more fics! FOURTEEN! That's exponential growth baybeeee
Back in 2025, I had a lovely afternoon reading all the fics there were in the tag. Now, doing that would actually take a lot more than a single afternoon, thanks to the dedication of a handful of brilliantly talented people (and also I'm there lol).
Now this year we've got fics with Shangquin as a main ship, a ship where there's two main ships happening at once, them as a background thing going on, you name it, we've got it! Canon compliant, canon divergent, crossovers, one shots, multi chapter you can find it all! Can you believe it?
I personally can't wait to see just how many more stories (and writers) this ship gets in the years to come!
This is my first post here.. I will spread my creativity! (If it's not difficult for you... You can subscribe to my Telegram channel.<3 ::: Pencil Crunch.)
Hello dear! What's your favorite thing about Shangqi and your favorite thing about Joaquín and your favorite thing about ShangQuín? I'm working on more fics for them and they just make my brain go brrrrr in the best way 😊
Oh gosh there's just so much where do I even start lol! This ended up being really long so I put it under the cut!
For Shangqi, I think its how he could have so easily been a generic angsty guy instead of the character we ended up getting. Because instead I think he's defined by all of his contradictions. He's insanely competent while having no real desire to use his skills until pushed at the beginning of the movie. He's fun, and looks like the life of the party, but he only has one really close friend. He appears calm and well-adjusted most of the time but is holding onto some deep trauma that rarely comes out. All of these opposing elements come together in a way that makes sense given what he's been through and make him really unique.
As for Joaquin, I think what I've come to really appreciate about his character is how he puts a spin on the "younger mentee" archetype. By having him be not that much younger than Sam, and having him do things like rebuild his wings on his own, I think it makes Joaquin into a more fully distinguished person. Like he's not trying to be a carbon copy of Sam, Sam is his hero and inspiration but Joaquin is going about it his own way. And I just think that's so much more interesting than it being some kind of father/son dynamic that I sometimes see people force their relationship into. It really shows off how Joaquin is ambitious, self-driven, and self-confident (to a dangerous degree as we saw!).
Basically, for both characters I think they could have easily been a pretty generic character archetype, but their writing was strong enough to escape that. It's why I think they're my favorite of the post-Endgame MCU characters.
As for Shangquin as a ship hoooo boy lol! I think it's one of those ships that on the surface is very "throw the two shippable characters together". And not to disparage those sort of ships, they're fun too, but I think that Shangquin holds up and actually gets better the more you think about it, despite the fact that they've got zero canon interactions (yet).
Like yes it's putting the more bubbly character with the more composed one. But it's also putting together a character who is defined so much by his ambition and lack of experience with someone who has all the experience but none of the ambition. It's the character who is more of an outsider versus someone who is Captain America's right hand man. It's a guy with no super powers and a guy with, like, kind of insane powers.
There's also something about the different kinds of trauma they have. Like I hardly see it discussed, but Shangqi really did experience abuse as a child. We all love Wenwu, but what he did to Shangqi and Xialing was pretty straightforwardly child abuse, even if we as the audience see where Wenwu was coming from and love Tony Leung.
Meanwhile Joaquin just went through a pretty gnarly near-death experience that had to be pretty traumatizing. Especially since we see that he does partly blame himself which has gotta be rough. It just feels like the fact that both of these characters are going through something gives a lot to work with. I'm not usually a fan of a ship where one character is basically treated like the caretaker for the other, and I think both people dealing with something hopefully helps avoid that.
The more I think about them the more I just think these two having some kind of close relationship, be it friendship or more, just makes sense. Between their different personalities, and their stories so far, I think there's a lot of potential. Plus both of their actors are just insanely charming and charismatic, like we haven't seen them on screen together yet but I'd be surprised if they didn't have any chemistry.
These are just some quick thoughts, like I could do more and probably will at some point! Thanks so much for the ask!
thinking about avengers doomsday again and I really hope shangqi gets screen time man. Also very excited for the potential ship content. Not just with Shangqi/Joaquin but also potentially Shangqi/Gambit (I bet $20s that one of them is going to end up pinning the other down during the fight. Also there no way that Gambit doesn’t banter as he’s inevitably losing). Shangqi deserves to be passed around like the x mansion blunt as penance for lack of content. As a treat. #getthatmanaboyfriend
Hello dear! I'm working on more ShangQuín fics, so I'm coming here to ask: what's your favorite thing about Joaquín? And Shangqi? And ShangQuín? 😊
buckle up this is going to be a long one
Omg thank you for the ask!
For Joaquin I think my favorite part about him is his sense of duty. He has been wanting this, wanting and training to be an avenger for so long. It's fun to write a character with passion like that. (It also makes the angst of not achieving that goal hit man). The Icarus motif is right there man.
For Shangqi I think my favorite part about writing him is how his past affects how he is now, on and off the battlefield. Like yes child soldier is a common trope in the marvel universe but with him you get to throw in the absolute wreck of a family structure, like chefs kiss. Side tangent but back to the child assassin thing, I think the way he parallels the other current child assassins (Yelena, Ava, Antonia) is interesting. There would be a special kind of angst there especially in a thunderbolts-esque scenario. I think it would scare him how similar they are yet how different they ended up. Even more specifically, in terms of the original avengers team, I feel like he'd parallel Natasha the most. (child assasin, left his sister behind.) Have not written anything down yet but him and Yelena interactions is fun to think about. Okay, getting back on track.
Favorite bits about Shangquin:
-I've yapped about this before and I will do it again but : Complimentary powers. Joaquin has wings and Shangqi airbends. Also neither of their powers happened under uh… ideal circumstances (re: drowning and the whole walker fiasco respectively). Them having to come to terms with that has a lot of potential I feel like.
-On top of this they parallel each other really nicely. (Shangqi almost drowned, Jaoquin crashed into the ocean, Joaquin's been fighting for this job, Shangqi wanted nothing to do with it)
-The lack of proper development/follow up for both of them is a blessing and a curse. On one hand let me see my boys again. On the other hand, reality can be whatever I want.
