One thing to know about me, and this blog by extension, is that I did not like Thunderbolts one bit. I think that movie treated all of its characters terribly, especially Bucky. His actions and behavior made absolutely no sense, especially after all the character development he got in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

I also did not care for Secret Invasion! The premise was handled so terribly that I, along with many other fans, would rather pretend that show didn't happen.

So here is the result of those two feelings: a post-Thunderbolts fix-it fic that also rewrites Secret Invasion into a proper Avengers movie. It's story about Sam investigating Bucky's sudden odd behavior, only to get wrapped up in a much bigger, world-threatening plot. Because Sam deserves to have a movie all about his own team, and characters like Shang-Chi and Shuri deserve more of the spotlight. Note that this is not a Thunderbolts team friendly fic! Take the rule of “no firsts.” In the comments section below her post for Last Word on Nothing, Finkbeiner explained that no sooner had she taken the vow to ignore gender, than she caught herself writing that the astronomer she was profiling was the first to win a certain award. After a reader urged her to stick to her pledge, she removed it.

“The fact that she’s the first woman to do that says a lot more about the prize-giving committee than it does about her,” Finkbeiner explained in our interview. “So if I were going to put that into a story, it would be a story about prejudice in that prize committee.”

It blew my mind, because she’s right. The fact that there’s some many firsts left is the result of bias in the committees NOT IN THE WORK WOMEN DO

"Why not make female heroes more feminine so girls know you don't have to be masculine to save the world" is misguided. The target audience of heroic adventure genre is not children who actually save the world in a literal sense, it's children who want a cathartic outlet for the struggles and injustice they face. And one of the most common types of injustice that many girls and children assumed to be girls are subjected to is forced feminization.
