“ ABSOLUTELY  NOT  ,  vanity  .”  mary  didn’t  even  have  to  think  twice  about  her  answer . she  was  no  thief  .  even  if  she  was  ,  she  wasn’t  sure  she’d  help  emma  .  after  all  ,  the  pair  didn’t  exactly  get  along  .  “  whatever  he  has  is  his  business  .  maybe  if  you  offer  him  the  ten  galleons  he’ll  give  it  to  you  .   or  you  just  need  to  find  the  right  people  to  ask  . ”  slender  shoulders  raised  into  a  shrug  .  she  herself  had  no  issues  finding  a  few  drinks  .  though  she  never  was  a  big  drinker  ,  only  on  social  occasions  like  this  .

     “OH, BOO HOO —” She couldn’t resist the urge to roll her eyes, and since she couldn’t control it, she made sure the other girl saw it, clearly. If there was one thing Emma disliked, it was someone who couldn’t enjoy just a bit of innocent fun like this, especially if it was at a party. “Wait a second, is that you, Macdonald?” Ah, now it all made sense. “I thought I recognized the way you sucked all the fun out of the room.”

     LEANING AGAINST THE BAR, Emma was anxiously waiting until the bartender stopped chatting up one of the women on the other side and would finally return with her drink. Technically, she couldn’t really call the shot of absinthe she’d ordered a drink, but she was willing to indulge herself that she wasn’t just here for the free drinks tonight, to get marvelously shitfaced before school began and her alcohol supply was rationed.

When the bartender finally noticed Emma’s scowl and the way her eyebrow quirked up — he scuffled away to pour her drink, only to return with two of the small glasses. Before she could call him back and insist he returns the second — though only because it would give off the wrong image that she was double fisting at a Ministry function — he was gone again. Lucky for her, she found someone standing beside her. 

“Want one? I think the moron has a crush — he’s been neglecting everyone else at the bar, trying to get into that poor girls’ knickers.”

where: ministry masquerade ball. when: saturday august 27th, 10:58pm. who: nadiya krum & anyone. 

A glass of bourbon between her fingers, and an irritated look upon her features, Nadiya had no interest in attending this ball. If it hadn’t been for Emma’s insistence and her rather extravagant wardrobe, she would have probably not worn the gold dress that she was currently adorned with. That and the fact that Walden had somehow sweetly persuaded her or more like manipulated her into attending. Taking a long drink from her glass she was suddenly jostled out of her thoughts as she witnessed someone trip in the midst of the crowd. A small smirk appearing upon her lips, a small amount of laughter escaped as she lifted her glass to them stating, “Good job.”

“NADEZHDA, YOU BETTER HELP —” Emma was completely embarrassed, and yet she managed to hiss the words at her cousin before anyone aside from her noticed that she’d gotten the clasp of her heel stuck in the fabric of her dress. She’d feigned off the man she’d tripped into with a gentle smile, letting some of the Veela heritage in her blood shine through, but she was still stuck, and one more step would have her on the floor. So, she spoke the one word Emma dreaded, in any situation. “Please?”

     “SO, LISTEN —” She addressed the person standing next to her, not really bothering to get a closer look at the face underneath the mask. Emma Vanity currently had her eye on the prize, and she was not about to be distracted. “Do you see that Auror over there? The one with the red bowtie,” She continued, nodding subtly in the direction she meant. “He’s got a flask of something interesting in his back pocket, I walked past him earlier tonight while he took a sip — and it smelled wicked strong.” 

This time, she lowered her voice, slightly more covert, though the man seemed distracted enough not to notice her scheming. “Help me nick it from him? I need something to get through this evening with the sulking presences all around the room,” Emma pouted out her lip slightly, tilting her head sidewards. “I’ll give you ten galleons for the effort.”

A mandatory, Ministry-regulated, masquerade ball. A more vile combination of words had never been heard by Severus before. It was bad enough that he now had to spend a precious evening before the start of school away from the bubbling cauldrons he was tending to during his summer apprenticeship, but even worse so was the fact that he had to dress up for it.

Oh well. At least he could hide his face.

Although what he really wanted to hide was his entire body, as he stood in the far corner of the busy room and stared down at his ill-fitting, borrowed shoes. His black dress robes were slightly too long for his shorter frame, and he scowled behind his silvery mask as he carefully watched the other party-goers. This entire charade seemed like a trap, and he was nervous to say much of anything in case if an Auror overheard him expressing any sort of camaraderie with the darker side of the brewing political conflict. 

He eyed the door, shuffling slowly along the wall towards it. Hopefully, he’d be able to slip out of this hellhole unnoticed…

     “NO BELLBOTTOMS, SEVERUS?” Emma had spotted her fellow Slytherin slowly shuffling towards the door, and couldn’t help but interrupt, gown sweeping behind her as she approached. Even if he was wearing a mask, the dark figure hiding in a far corner of the room, looking ready to bolt — she’d made a guess, and hoped it was correct. 

Holding a flute of champagne in her hand, she leaned against the wall as well. What Emma really needed was a chair, to rest her feet for just a second, after brutally abusing them with those high heels she just had to wear. After all, they matched her outfit.

“Is it just me, or do these Aurors feel more like jailers than chaperones?” She frowned as one of them passed by, before stopping directly in front of the exit. The need for a security protocol was understandable, but this all seemed a little much to her. “Seriously — it makes you wonder about exactly how voluntary this event is.”
