Meet Drew DuPont: A swash buckler, ex-noble pirate heavily inspired by 1700’s french (specifically marseille) culture.
This is the same character 10 years apart. Left: 18 years old and duke heir apparent. Right: 28 years old pirate. Also pictured on the far left is Drew DuPont’s younger sister, Loire Dupont, 8 years old and the hand of his father, André Dupont, 39 years old.
Born André Marceau Corentin Dupont, this character was the first son of the Duke of Côte des Écumes (Foam Coast), and first in line to inherit the Dukedom. André’s father wishes to see his son take the title of Grand Duke. In his efforts of gaining popularity, wealth, and territory, his plan backfires. The Empire of the realm feels completely terrified threatened by the Duke’s momentum, and chaotically ends the duke and his family.
On a warm, rainy, summer night, while the duke, duchess, and their two children were peacefully sleeping, The Dupont estate mysteriously bursts into uncontrollable flames, leaving no survivors.
Except for one, Drew DuPont, who brutally witnesses his sister’s death.
Overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next, André decides he is definitely being hunted down and needs to quickly change his identity and leave Côtedes Écumes until he knows he’s safe. Luckily, he finds (seemingly) trustworthy deckhands at the harbor looking for a sailor with basic knowledge on steering a boat.
Unaware that he’s dealing with pirates, and feeling the pressure and desperate need to escape, he easily agrees to do it for free, negotiating that he just needs a ride.
Fast forward 10 years, he has reclaimed a new version of his name, Drew, and chopped his hair. He is haunted every night of nightmares of his sister’s screams and a dependency on alcohol. He has learned that the fire was an assassination attempt by no other than the Emperor himself, and is driven by a hot, simmering thirst for revenge.
The Dupont Duchy is extinct, and Drew sails the open seas.
