Brody nodded his head as she asked her question. “Sort of, I own the place.” On The Rocks was one of his newest business ventures and the reason he had come to Rockford.

Evangeline paused, taking in the bar around her. Honestly she had been there only once before and she never really took the time to appreciate it. “Not bad, handsome” She nodded her head, a small laugh escaping her lips.  “So this is basically your baby isn’t it?”

Patrick dropped his gaze down to the pendant the girl pointed at, smiling a little more when he saw it. “Yeah? You’re sure on that one?”

“Oh definitely” She reassured him, adding a enthusiastic nod.  “What’s her name?”

It was definitely a view of a lifetime. Zeke had seen some pretty wild stuff in his day, but this…. the entirety of Rockford in the dark lull of the  evening from atop a ferris wheel? Never. This was new, it was fresh and honestly he thrived for it. Watching Van climb into the cart, Zeke followed suit to join her and as he hopped in, he gripped hard as it began to rock back and forth. From the distance he could see Chicago in the distance, the beautiful lights flickering against the water it was…. dare he say it, mesmerizing. “Yeah I can definitely hang out.” he said casually, leaning back into the seat to get a look at the stars. “Shit look – “ he pointed just as a light shot across the sky, “What do you think? A shooting star or a UFO?” he teased before falling into a comfortable silence.

Van’s smile grew from each corner of her mouth as she watched Zeke’s face light up like hers. She loved having someone who enjoyed her crazy side. The girl slid her hand in her pocket retrieving her phone before taking a few pictures of their surroundings and than one candid of the man beside her. “I want to remember this moment” She confessed, a small laugh escaping her lips. 

“Do you believe in Aliens?” Van questioned, her eyebrows raising at him.

Patrick shook his head with a grin, a silent symbol to let he know it was fine. He nodded, chewing his lip as he glanced back down at the jewelry. “She’s turning four. So I’m not sure it’s something she’ll actually wear just yet, she’d probably break it, but I want her first piece of real jewelry to come from me, you know?”

Van scanned the counter, pointing to a smaller more delicate necklace with a small heart pendent. “That one” She responded simply, offering him a soft smile. “If I was four, I would have never taken that off”

Tyler’s smirk rose up his lips at the challenge. “Let me take you out,” he offered  more confidently, reaching down to grab her hands, lifting them up and twisting his in hers to lace them together, stepping closer. “I guarantee you’ll have a blast.”

Van let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head at him. “Give me a time and place and I’ll be there”

“I like your reasons, simple and to the point.” Brody took another drink before setting his glass on the bar, taking a look around before glancing back at Eve. “Work, as always.”

“You just described me perfectly” She chuckled, tucking her hair gentle behind her ear. “Wait- you work here?”

A small giggle came out of Olivia only for her to end up nodding and agreeing. “Are you two going to gang up on me or should I just leave and let you two hang out?” He followed close behind in case his daughter looked back with concern but it never happened. “So how was your day?”

“Don’t be silly, of course you can hang out with us” Van shot back, turning back to stick her tongue out at him playfully. “My day was pretty boring, I was inside working most of it. How about you? what adventures did you two have?” She smiled, unpacking to tacos onto the patio table.

Patrick went to answer the question, but instead just watched to see where she pointed, a soft laugh fell as her words came out. “It’s actually for my daughter,” he offered with a nod, tilting his head slightly. “So romance isn’t exactly what I’m going for, but I do like that necklace,” he nodded again, glancing around his options.

Evangeline bit her lip, embarrassed at the assumption she made. Sorry, she mouthed, a small chuckle slipping from her lips. “Well if my dad bought me that necklace - I’d probably die” She assured him, her eyes moving from the case to his. “How old is she?”

“Looking out for yourself, there’s nothing wrong with that.” Brody raised his drink towards her before bringing it to his lips and taking a drink. “Eve it is then. What brings you out tonight?”

Van swirled her finger in her drink, placing it in her mouth seconds later - call it a weird quirk- before holding her glass up to the man. “No other reason than to get drunk and sleep in tomorrow” She confessed, taking a sip from her glass. “How about you?”

“Apparently I’m giving you more credit than you deserve.” He responded back with a laugh. “Do you want to sit or do you eat more standing up?”

“Ugh. I’m hurt, truly” She laughed, placing her hands on her knees as her attention moved to the child. “Honestly, I don’t know how you even deal with him” She teased the man, one hand grabbing the huge bag of food as the other draped casually around the small girls shoulders. “Let’s go eat out on the patio”

“Only if you say yes, if you say no then I just strung words together and I’m not sure what they meant,” he teased with a shrug. “That’s a sweet name!”

“Try that again - I like a guy with confidence” She spoke boldly - her eyes fixated on his as she challenged him.

His brow perked at the threat of getting thrown under the bus, but the truth was Zeke wasn’t too stressed about it. He was skilled at getting caught and getting out of trouble just as well. “Yeah yeah nobody likes a show off you know.” he retorted, still holding the mysterious glimmer in his eye while holding onto the ladder bar, careful not to go too slowly with Van behind him.  As he climbed, Zeke made sure to get a good look at their surroundings as if to see any threats coming there way, or the potential of security getting off of their break early in time to catch them. When the bars became slightly crooked, he shifted his weight until reaching the platform to the top and climbed up, offering his hand down to Van so that she could get up as well. “Look at this —- “ he mused, the breeze a bit stronger up top as he looked down. “Who cares if we get caught? This shit is worth it.”

Evangeline flashed him a huge smile just as he looked down at her, amusement visible on her features. “what’s the point of having it and not flaunting it?” She teased, her breath hitching slightly at the sight around her. She was terrified but at the same time it was extremely exciting.  Just as the maintenance ladder came to a stop, Van appreciated the hand, knowing full well how dangerous their plan was to begin with. Finally making it to the top, the girl climb carefully into the stopped passenger cart. “I’ve never seen anything quite like this” She confessed, her eyes as big as a childs. With the lake below them and the Chicago skyline lighting the water - the sight was ridiculous. “Lets sit here for a minute, please?” she pleaded, her hand patting the seat beside her.

“I didn’t have the heart to correct the cashier when she thought I wanted twenty chicken tacos instead of just five so we figured we bring you lunch.” He pointed to the eight-year-old beside him proudly holding up the smaller bag.

“And you thought I could eat 15?” She challenged, her lips curving into a smile moments later. “Challenge accepted”
