I wonder what HotD would solve these matters (No, I don't think they would, but it's funny as fuck) SPOILER INCLUDED
We all see that HotD has tried to give Rhaenyra and Alicent much better (political/personal) images compared to what they had in the book. At some point, many of us are fed up with the "women = victims" thing. They can be victims in many contexts, especially in Westeros/medieval settings, but who wants to see queens continuously be helpless in every episode?! As much as I love Rhaenyra and I do agree she is better than Aegon II in some ways, I still think that letting Aegon or anyone else be king + a competent council who knows how to do their job is much better than having a destructive combo Rhaenyra + Daemon ruling together. I don't care if those lords in the Small Council are asses. We need someone who runs the country. S2 and S3, till now, portray Rhaenyra as a merciful, chosen sovereign (we will talk about this later), but incapable of being Queen, on both the military front and the governance front. In the preview of S3E3, we have some hints that she once again is cornered when it comes to politics and dealing with paperwork, policy, money... You can blame the Greens for moving the gold out of the Red Keep all you like, but does that mean the Blacks think they can rule the Seven Kingdoms with only dragonfire and have never thought of this matter? I kinda prefer the interpretation that either Blacks or Greens are good to what the show has been doing so far. Both are terrible choices, so pick the less terrible one. Do we agree that Viserys had been a corpse for ~ 20 years and the Kingdoms have been governed by the Green Council already? The Kingdoms may not be as wealthy as they were under the rule of Jaehaerys I, but surely it is much better than what they would be in the next 6 months under Rhaenyra's ruling.
The chosen one/Prince that was promised/Harrenhal's VR tour delulu whatsoever Daemon has been on since the last season: I see that the show is trying to push the narrative Rhaenyra = the chosen one. It is hilarious since we all know she only sat on the throne for 6 months, and during her ruling time, King's Landing and the Seven Kingdoms were in war, poverty, and chaos. Later, people rebelled due to the cruelty and high taxes (apart from the death of Helaena), and Rhaenyra had to sell her crown for a boat ticket to flee. What a wonderful ending for a chosen queen. Fine, the book and the show are two different things. But I don't think the show can prolong Rhaenyra's reign to... six years? We are going to have a Half-Year Queen with a tragic death. Are you sure she is the chosen one, like how Daemon and the show want us to believe she is? People can say that it's Rhaenyra's bloodline that continued the Targaryen dynasty. Another way to understand "chosen one". But the prophecy said, "A Targaryen who sits on the Iron Throne would unite the kingdoms and blah blah blah". Dany did not sit on the Iron Throne, nor did she unite the Kingdoms properly, nor did she kill the Night King. Roughly 200-300 years, Westeros tolerated the Targaryens, their disastrous god complex and violence, so that they could do ONE JOB. ONE! And they could not make it. They spent most of their dragons in a civil war and then kept doing stupid things for the next hundreds of years until the dynasty was replaced. If anything, the Targaryens helped the Darkness to break an 8000-year-old Wall :)). The next time White Walkers comeback, the North would be nothing but eternal winter.
Neither Dany nor Jon was the Prince that was promised to me. I let that shit die long ago. But then HotD decided that they must milk the fuck old cow to polish Rhaenyra's and the Black's image... Very curious how they would conclude things in S4.
