one of the methods in traditional astrology to determine traits and quality of the spouse is called the oriental planet (meaning they rise in the morning before the sun), which was initially written down by Ptolemy in 2nd century C.E. but it's rooted in Babylonian observations of planetary visibility.

as the name suggests, for judging the spouse in a woman's chart you need to look at the planet sitting right before the sun (excluding outer planets and luminaries). for men, you look at the planet right ahead of the moon or the occidental planet.
