"Women's bisexuality exposes the misogyny of... like, everyone. But because bisexuality hasn't been recognized and examined as a political issue to the extent other issues have been in the mainstream, we let it go unchecked. We don't recognize it as a specific form of misogyny against a minority group. We just see it as an individual quirk, or even something justified and progressive.
-Verity Ritchie, Why We Hate Bi Women
So much of our perspective on bi people today is shaped by this crucial coming-out moment in our history. Bisexually came into mainstream consciousness because of AIDS, and all the prejudice and hatred and fearmongering that came with it shaped our perception of bisexuality.
--Verity Ritchie, Why We Hate Bi Men
(takes a deep breath)
Okay. I want to try and have a good-faith conversation about biphobia in fandom.
Specifically, I think we might all benefit from talking more about what anti-bisexual tropes and stereotypes are and why they exist, the history behind them. Bisexual history is not as well known, and I certainly don't claim to be an expert myself. But some history and context might help some people to understand why bisexual fans react strongly to certain things.
happy pride to them

Hey! If you're someone who creates content in the XIV space - art comms, keychains, you name it — feel free to send submissions to this page, or even link it in a comment to me! I haven't had much chance to post awesome accounts recently, and would love to keep promoting folks! I have pinned to the top of the blog what things I will/won't post (I try to keep it to out-of-game tangible creations, rather than things like in-game mods), if you're unsure!
@grandenchanters: "My best friend and i’s commission blog is @contresixted (not limited to ffxiv but primarily do get commissions for wols!) and we also have an etsy that includes tons of ffxiv merch including themed candles, prints, stickers, and more! https://moonmagesundries.etsy.com"
happy pride! now you can have a big gay bird of your very own

flyin high!
anyway that xiv comic fragments' author is an out and proud biphobe so do not put his shit on my dash anymore thanks 🙏😊
for those who want to know the url of the biphobe, it's @/nights-at-crystarium
after his blantant biphobia he has chosen to ignore people who have called him out and also has the audacity to act as a victim as if he is not the one who is outright hostile to bi folks. he also thinks if he grows big enough, his biphobia will be more acceptable.
they're doubling down too, by the way
For those who haven't seen the original exchange, here's the dogwater take from anon that kicked us off:
hApPy pRiDe 🏳️🌈😚 Here's to getting upset that other queers might imagine a fictional character with no established canon sexuality to be interested in more than just one gender.
Oh, and why not sprinkle some caaaaasual racism into it! Because fans "in Japan (and maybe other places idk)" might not recognize the same shitty gender-normative stereotypes as you. So true. We the Asians should def get a pass for homophobia because our cultures are just Like That™ or whatever the fuck.
Brother. Do you know any damn thing about queerness outside of North America? Yes, Japan (and maybe other places idk) has the same/similar cultural tells for queerness because (1) Western esp American media is a major influence on global culture, and (2) shitty gendernormative and sexist beliefs are worldwide and upheld to varying levels of severity.
Holy fuck. I know people of color don't exist in English dialogues about queerness except as window dressing, but please consider perspectives outside your own. Especially during a month that celebrates the diverse spectrum of queerness.
Anyway, here's the very questionable response NAC posted and is now crashing out over:
Even if they could relate to the anon's sentiments, their response is so fucking entitled and whiny. HEY, I'M THE VICTIM. I'M BEING OPPRESSED. WHAT DO YOU MEEEEAAAAN I'M BEING INSENSITIVE TO BI/PAN/OMNISEXUAL PEOPLE YOU'RE TAKING MY WORDS IN BAD FAITH.
Like, did you all know we can have very real conversations about gay erasure without throwing other people under the bus over personal player perceptions of a fictional character's sexuality? Mind blown.
Happy Pride. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
sorry to keep harping on about this but this is what J thinks of queer creators in the community. what do we think he thinks counts as a queer creator. let's take a guess
sorry guys my bad he's a "pillar of the community" 🥺
oh wow, yeah, WHAT A PILLAR, holding us all up
I needed to put them in bisexual lighting before pride month ends
This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the beauty of diversity above and below the surface. The ocean is full of vibrant life in every color imaginable. It reminds us that nature thrives when everyone has space to belong.
Environmental advocacy and the LGBTQ+ rights movement share a common purpose: protecting vulnerable communities, caring for the spaces we all call home, and creating a world where we all can flourish. Our world is brightest when people can live authentically, love freely, and be embraced for who they are. From rainbow reefs to shimmering tides, diversity makes our blue planet stronger, healthier, and more inspiring.
Here’s to protecting our ocean, uplifting every voice, and honoring the colorful communities that make this world so wonderful.
They should invent a way to sit hunched over doing crafts that is Good for your body
