HELLO ! have you thought about Van Gogh’s First Steps today ?
Here you go. This world is beautiful. Humans are beautiful. I love you
it feels good to be nervous opening tumblr in public again now that my dash is just gifset after gifset of the heated rivalry boys going at it. i pulled up tumblr.com in the coffee shop without thinking and the old german man at the table next to me had a front row seat to the riding scene in stunning technicolour before i shut my laptop lid. it's like how they're digging holes in the deserts of tanzania to restore degraded land and heal the ecosystem, except the only hole in this case is shane hollander's

You should only write in present tense with extreme caution.
not because it's bad or anything but because if you do it even once you're going to be editing the bits where you shifted tenses out of your writing for the rest of your life
if u write in present tense enough times in a row, you can switch this problem around & get confused when your present-tense narrator is talking abt something that happened in Their past. I recommend this bc it keeps u on ur toes
guys i made my first blackout poetry

Nursing and other healthcare jobs are becoming gig work — like driving or delivering food for Uber — making the jobs more miserable and low-paying, writes Cory Doctorow.
The platforms collude with lawmakers and regulators who are in the pockets of investors.
It’s part of a larger economic trend: “From fintech to price-fixing to gig-work, the entire industry runs on the very stupid proposition that ‘it’s not a crime if we do it with an app.‘”
Cory: “Sometime in this century, our political class and our financial class arrived at a consensus that Douglas Rushkoff describes as ‘go meta,’ in his 2022 book _Survival of the Richest_:
pluralistic.net/2022/09/1…
“The ‘go meta’ ethos insists that the most important, smartest and most valuable move is always _away_ from productive labor. Don’t drive a cab: go meta and own a medallion that you rent to a cab driver. Don’t own a medallion, go meta and start a gig-work ride-hailing company. Don’t start a gig-work ride-hailing company, go meta and _invest_ in a gig-work ride-hailing company. Don’t invest in a gig-work ride-hailing company, go meta and buy _options_ in a gig-work ride-hailing company – and so on and so on, into ever more abstracted forms of gambling and rent-collection.”
I’ve been saying this for years: It often seems that the only way to succeed is not to do work that produces value, like a nurse. It’s not even to own property, like a 19th Century robber-baron that owned factories and railroads that produced value. The only way to succeed is to move money around. That’s a bad way to run a society, and it results in riots and blood in the streets when the workers get desperate enough.
i’ve read some literature that points out two major evils of the system: 1) the gig nurses actually get paid a little bit MORE than regular nurses for having more flexibility, which demoralizes nurses who stay put; 2) the fact that there’s incentive to become a vagrant nurse means nurses can’t get used to a single hospital’s way of doing things, including their emergency operations plans or even just “hey what do we do if we run out of amoxicillin?” this is insanely dangerous on all fronts. we are walking back not just worker protections but public health safeguards developed over decades of crisis management research. it’s all coming unraveled because of corporate greed.
Secondary point to travel/vagrant nursing paying more: they don’t get benefits from their contracts unless it’s a wildly good agency they work through. So they have to pay for their own health insurance and retirement. Meanwhile the hospital system saves more in the long run because she they might be paying $90/hr for a nurse but they don’t have to pay into any of that nurse’s benefits like they do for their non contract full time employee’s.
"There's no thought crimes and no thought heroisms" is honestly such a good piece of life advice.
You could be having the most fucked up problematic thoughts 24/7 but if you treat people with kindness, the good you do is the only thing that matters. But if you have only the purest thoughts and all the correct beliefs, it doesn't matter one bit if you spend most of your time being an asshole to people.

undiagnosed autistic people will be like "I don't get upset when my routine changes though!!" and it's because they've built a set of if-then loops in their head to pick from one of 6 different strict routines and they do get incredibly upset when they're unable to keep to any of the 6 scripts.
