An unexpected winner? Perhaps. But he is a well deserved winner.

More often than not we always had one question in our heads as to who was gonna break the Messi-R*naldo tug of war.

We all thought Neymar, but he lost all credibility since. We thought maybe Gareth Bale and although he won a lot at Real Madrid he was often injured half the time so his name was out of the question.

Kylian Mbappe? Could have a fair shot in the future. I don’t see any reason why he won’t win it within the next few years but who knows.

Then came… Luka Modric. 33 years of age and was dubbed the worst signing by Real Madrid in 2013. Many thought Mourinho who was manager of Real at the time, made a blunder.

But he defied the odds. He’s been through war in his country, he’s been told he was ‘too small’ but got his break at Dinamo Zagreb.

Today, he is proclaimed the best player in the world. I know I support Man United, but the admiration I have for Modric is through the roof.

Congratulations, Lukita. Well deserved mate!
