The really funny part is that this isn't quite accurate – the English localisation of Final Fantasy VI dropped exactly when online fanfic culture as we know it was in the process of taking shape on the English-speaking Internet. By rights it should have been this. The sole reason it wasn't is because the English localisation of Chrono Trigger dropped a few months later and stole Final Fantasy VI's lunch money. We never got yaoi sexyman Kefka because all the smutty fanfic authors were too busy writing stories about Magus fucking his sister.
