     his eyebrows furrow slightly and he shakes his head in response to the hastily stuttered apology. “oh, it’s okay. i’m more worried about why you’re on the ground, and whether i hurt you by accidentally tripping over you…” he murmurs with a frown on his face as he offers the other a hand to help him up. 

     his intentions are interrupted by the angry shriek coming from the upturned popcorn bucket and his eyes widen as he tries to figure out exactly what had happened and when he’d lost his popcorn bucket. evidently, the proof of its loss is there in the spilled kernels on the ground, but he can’t quite believe that his accidental aim was that good as the student lifts up the bucket, revealing a starly that had happened to be in just the wrong place at the wrong time. 

     he can’t help the laugh that escapes his lips, squatting down next to the starly with an amused grin. “oh no, is this where my popcorn ended up?”

     “ I’m alright, I promise. I shouldn’t have stopped right where everyone walks. “ Sunjin fought against the laughs threatening to spill from his chest. He set the bucket to the side of Aeris, trying to access the situation and just how to deal with it. They were at a water festival and he could just stick him in a shallow pool, but the Starly seemed like he’d had enough excitement for one day. Still, Sunjin couldn’t help it.

     Okay, okay, he may be laughing, but he’s a good person, he swears. Knowing that Aeris fit inside of a whole popcorn bucket just added to how much the situation tickled Sunjin. “ I think he’s alright, he’s just a little upset. “ The little bird Pokemon, more than displeased, raised his wings and fluttered them indignantly. Butter and popcorn went flying every which way, Sunjin shielding himself a little too late ... and right as the stranger knelt down next to him.

     he probably should have learned after his first semester with minsung that his pokemon cannot be trusted indoors. actually, he probably should have learned that after the first few times they’d set things on fire at home, but there had always been other pokemon to help quench the little embers and his cousin’s buizel had always also been happy to practice its water moves. 

     still, hyunjin has always been rather oblivious when it comes to realizing things like this unless they’re pointed out to him. and even then, he can easily forget. which means that he really shouldn’t be surprised despite his penchant for forgetting, that his pokemon are flammable. and their ability to control their fire is dictated by their emotions.

     hyunjin should really learn to help his pokemon control their emotions better. in the middle of a game they’re playing, char gets overly excited, swinging his flaming tail around. before they know it, one of the plants is starting to smoke and a panicked shout of panic escapes hyunjin.

     Living in a dorm room had brought on a whole new set of challenges for Sunjin. Adjusting to sharing a space with someone else hadn’t been the problem. In fact, he liked being able to have a conversation with someone whenever he felt talkative. Which was .... all the time, unfortunately for his roommate. No, the people were not the challenge; the Pokemon were a challenge. Not a bad one but, well, Sunjin had never lived with fire types ... until he met his current roommate, Hyunjin. They’d only known each other for a week but it already felt like a lifetime.

     Already his day had been long and exhausting, full of various mishaps and mistakes brought on by non other than his own tiredness. Sunjin hadn’t slept well the night before for, well, various reasons beyond his control. He was tired and his feet were already dragging along the concrete.  Shiyu even had to extend her paw and tap his cheek every so often, making sure her human companion didn’t fall asleep standing up. The Ranger in training wanted nothing more than to collapse into bed for a few hours, but life had no intention of letting him off the hook early. An undisturbed nap ? Too easy.

     Unlocking the door and stepping inside, Sunjin didn’t notice anything at first. Aeris did, the Starly squawking at what chaos was about to unfold, but he hadn’t raised his head just yet; he was too busy fumbling with his shoes. “ I’m back ! “ He called out. And then he smelled it; something was burning. Oh no.

     he hums to himself as he strolls along the path, examining the different stalls of food, games, and merchandise. a fond smile quirks up the corners of his mouth, watching the students and pokemon scamper around, all excited. it’s one of his favorite things about festivals, he thinks, that they bring everyone out and together. 

     perhaps what happens next is his fault. he’s so occupied with looking around that he doesn’t really notice what’s at his feet. he should really stop shuffling his feet, as his mother always criticizes. perhaps if he’d not been shuffling, he wouldn’t have tripped over whatever was on the ground. perhaps if he’d been paying more attention to his popcorn and surroundings, his popcorn wouldn’t have flown out of his hand, neatly upending itself on the ground.

      a gasp tears itself from his lips as he realizes that what he’d tripped over was no cable or cord, but someone else’s foot. someone else who is distinctly on the ground. “uh… are you okay?” he asks uncertainly, squatting down next to the person, his upended popcorn bucket forgotten. (perhaps he should have paid more attention to that, too.)

     Sunjin stared up at the person he’d just collided with, mouth opening and closing as he attempted to come up with words. He wasn’t hurt or anything, just startled. Shiyu nudging his hand snapped him out of it and Sunjin blinked to break himself out of his thoughts. “ Ah, yes, I’m okay ! “ The student scratched the back of his neck, clearly embarrassed. “ Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to get in your way ... “ His voice trailed off as an upset screech came from the popcorn bucket quaking nearby. 

     His head swung left ... and then right ... and then he realized what happened. Now, the normal course of action in their situation would be to panic but, well, Sunjin wasn’t normal. He reached for the bucket and pinched the edge, lifting it up. Beneath the bucket stood an extremely frazzled looking starly covered in sticky butter and peppered with popcorn kernels. All Sunjin could do was tip his head back and cackle. Aeris was less than pleased.

vcwaterfest starter for @vcsunjin.

     jiseok has to say that he genuinely loves the water festival that takes place every year. it’s his second year participating in it as a faculty member, and he remembers his first time ever as a student. it’s only gotten more exciting since then, and he thinks that experiencing it as a faculty member who’d participated in setting it up makes it even more rewarding when he gets to go around and see what they’ve done. 

     he’s been craving the popcorn ever since he spotted the stand, and he finally has a bucket in his hands, popping a few of the buttery kernels into his mouth. to be totally honest, he’s not paying full attention to his surroundings or his popcorn, eating it absent-mindedly as he cranes his neck to see what else is going on at the festival. he’s already plotting the next place in his mind, his grip on his popcorn loosening slightly as he stops paying as much attention to his buttery treat, just eating without thinking.

     Sunjin had heard of the infamous water festival. Well, really, everyone had. It was one of the staples of the whole campus, one of the things that drew you in. A way to get away from studies and spend time with your Pokemon, free from books and stuffy rooms and given freedom to meet people you normally wouldn’t. He’d barely been settled in for a week so it came less as a treat and more as a way to branch out and say hello.

     Sunjin and Shiyu were having a great time; Aeris was not. The little starly loathed water getting into his feathers. Bird baths were one thing; being completely drenched was another. Water led to damp which led to smell, and then Sunjin had to bathe him anyway. He wanted Aeris to have a good time despite this so it looked like it was carnival games for the day. The bird Pokemon hopped onto the ground to escape a Wingull flying overhead. Sunjin smiled as he took off his backpack, setting it on the ground to let Shiyu hop on out. Right as he did so, something ran into his side, sending him sprawling onto the ground. And thus, chaos ensued.

arms full, jiwon was making her way across the campus. she had two boxes in her hold which was making it difficult to see, her poor treecko was walking worriedly next to her having wanted to carry a box but found it to be much to big for the small grass type. “don’t worry so much koko~ i’ve got this!” she got out, focused on both not falling with the boxes and also not sounding like she was struggling under. given, the way she was holding them allowed her to see around one side of the boxes but it left her a rather large blind spot.

thus. 

as she rounded the corner, unable to see and not processing her treecko’s warning in time, the field medic in training found herself running right into someone. “oh no!” her startled cry of concern left as her footing wobbled and the box on top teetered as if any moment it would fall. 

     “ Don’t worry, Shiyu ! We won’t get lost. “ The little shinx eyed him, picking up her pace to keep stride with the ranger in training. “ We’ll just, you know, retrace our steps. We’re good at that. “ They weren’t, and maybe it was a good thing Shiyu couldn’t call him out on it; the sass carried in the shinx would only grow worse. Now, while touring the campus wasn’t exactly against the rules, Sunjin had an absolutely awful sense of direction. It didn’t take much for him to lose his way. You could put a lighted sign, arrows and all, to his destination and he would still miss it. No wonder Shiyu seemed reluctant and it didn’t help that his flying companion had stayed behind in their dorm.

     As Sunjin approached a turn, his attention focused on Shiyu’s struggling to keep up. Her little legs were losing steam quickly. “ Backpack time already ? Hold on, lets get out of foot traffic first. “ Sunjin rounded the corner, face smacking unexpectedly into a surface. He stumbled back in surprise, brain taking a moment to process the soft ‘oh no!’ before his hand shot up to save the precariously balancing tower. Oops ... “ Sorry ! “
