Step Up to the Challenge of bettering the Self...
Dear Beauty
Your shine outshines the darkness of my past
As seconds with you seem to last and last
To hear your voice, to see your face
To make you smile, and to share your space
In a thousand lifetimes I could never replace
How much our aura and intellect relate
So may I ask you for your hand
To guide you to a land
And help you understand
How you've saved the drowning boy in the depths of this man
I can't promise you forever, or even perfection
Or the wisest of words and the best direction
But I can give this heart tho I've given before
With the greatest hope you'll cherish it more
And choose to be mine, so I can be yours...

Anti-Socially Social
You cling to your vanity because deep down you aren’t truly in love with the person nobody gets to see
But ... I see
I see
That we
Have more in common than you would like to believe
So you go to such extremes
In an attempt to deceive
But
You are the one deceived
Let us no longer bend like elbows and knees
For a world that eats the focus necessary to achieve
Let’s leave
Like autumn trees
Because the cold is now here
But disregard fear
For the attention to better
Because just like shifting seasons no pain is forever

Sucker For Love
Am I Chasing dreams or chasing stars?
I fall apart
Then I chase my weed with Henn just to mend the heart
Momma said to be careful women are very smart
Wish I coulda seen it from the very start
See we started off as friends
Bestest til the end
Now the feelings fade again
We never make amends
Took another L, praying for the win
Tryna be a starter, tired of playing bench
So now I search for signs like astrology
To no longer keep separated where’s this apostrophe ?
I guess Cupid keep dodging me
I’m the biggest fan of love, but she seems to be mockin me
Or possibly
She’s somewhere watching me
Waiting for the day I can responsibly
Handle all her magic and her feelings
Til then I’ll be staring at the ceiling
I’m a sucker for love
~VC
Love Is...
Love is a wishing well, Love is your hottest hell
Love is wanting to excel and prevail but doubtful that what you love loves you on the same scale
Love is not knowing up from down, left from right, surrounded by darkness, yet seemingly finding light
Love makes the best of you, while dragging you through the worst of you, wondering if this is a blessing or a curse for you.
So many lessons through obsession and a search for you.
A desert full of feelings and I'm just dying of thirst for you.
See love is not a stop, it's a pathway
Pain will come don't keep giving in halfway
We believe love is a dance, to the sweetest of serenades
But it’s more of a chiseled art, so let’s admire what we’ve made...

Ms. Misses
She claims attraction to the poets that think
And in a blink
Of her brown eyes she winks
Her sexual demeanor
Ever cleaner than a diva’s
Head stronger than a ram’s
I’m thinking damn just like the beavers
Ms. Parker, Ms. Parker
Who loves her lip shades darker
Spend a time a with Mr. Carter
And I’ll plug you like a charger
To an energy, that’s mentally
Essentially, potentially
Curing the question in your mind “Is love really meant for me?”
It is the unforeseen queens that often question the most
Weary of the man who wants to hit it and boast
Shorty there are only shallows if you stick to the coast
Take a swim up in this love and see how deep that it goes

The Canvas
A pure work of art, my favorite picture
My favorite mold, my favorite fixture
Only the richest man could ever wish to get ya
Still I close my eyes and fix my lips to kiss ya
You’re the finest thing I've ever seen before
The flyest thing in any Neimann store
Or actually, in this gallery, and I'm a regular so I don't need a tour
So I’m casting you for my newest movie
And that says a lot cuz I'm extra choosy
But you’re a 1 of 1, like the rarest Louie
And that's a Fendi, plus your lips are Gucci
Hope you fall in love with my understanding
Never reprimanding, never take advantage
I pray this love never do us damage
Cuz I could paint the town but you’re my favorite canvas

The beauty of life...the pain never lasts
“So, if we’re all going to be outraged,” the former NBA star wrapped up, “let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.”

As a PAR project action has taken many forms and has been woven through each step of our research. Our research is designed to become a part of the everyday conversation in the streets around Morris Avenue, to communicate to parts of the city not targeted by the NYPD, and to inform policy-makers.
Morris Justice, “Action” (via criticalu)
It's amazing to see someone finally stand up against the harassment of the stop and frisk. I wasn't even aware of this project and it actually isn't far from where I live. Also, the percentages of stop and frisks that result in nothing meant everything because from my experience they always did result in nothing. Another number that stood out to me was the number of people who had contact with this harassment being 25 years of age or younger symbolizes to me how young men of color are targeted. It's sad when you come home and still feel like you don't belong. I commend this project and wish great successes on it.
Loans which either benefit the creditor only, or inflict social and environmental damage on individuals, families, and communities, should be renegotiated to compensate for harms.
Andrew Ross, “Nine Arguments for Debt Refusal” (via criticalu)
I agree that debt is a source of capitalists continuing to profit off of the working class. I remember reading something about the federal reserve bank basically lending a dollar on agreement that you owe them that dollar. The catch to that is that they are the ones who make all the dollars, so how can repay them that dollar if they are the source of all dollars. Essentially, you are forever in debt to them. That's twisted logic but it just goes to show how any aspect of life can be used to be profitable. I also agree that the only way to remove this is to by accept debt but how can we really when it comes from everything vital to us. Can't pay for something and a loan must be taken, even to start something of your own like a business, a business loan is often needed. We must venture into finding ways of gaining some control of means of production as a class in order to begin our own accumulation of control over daily processes.
[T]o the NCAA, whose existence depends on a steady stream of unpaid, ‘amateur’ labor, the stakes are about as high as they get. Their ability to get intercollegiate athletes to work while avoiding all the responsibilities associated with formally employing them—a relationship on the rise throughout the global economy, from subcontracted janitors cleaning New York City office towers to Bangladeshi garment workers producing clothing for Walmart—is, for the first time, being directly challenged.
Samir Sonti, “Unionize College Football” (via criticalu)
I agree with the notion that student-athletes should get some form of compensation for their efforts in being dedicated athletes as well as students. Some people struggle with just being a student, let alone endure practice, games, and homework. I am a student athlete and because of my schedule to maintain a job while attending school and playing a sport is a bit of a task. Therefore, I chose not to work in order to place all focus on excelling in school and on the court. Yet, I am still responsible for covering my costs of travel to school weekly and feeding myself (being that my school doesn't have a meal plan) without a consistent form of income. These unions understand that being a student athlete although it is a choice, is not an easy road. So they should allow us to have some sort of advocation of ourselves to show what we need and where.
This list is dedicated to all of the brilliant and emotional and scared students out there.
Suey Park, “How to Be Less of a Jerk to Students with Anxiety Disorders” (via criticalu)
I've always hated the fact that people treat those with mental health issues as of they are weird or something. Part of being a society is finding ways to accommodate all. My last school upstate used to always advocate if you had problems testing that you could always request extra or alone time so you can be the most comfortable while taking exams. Everyone is wired differently yes but that therefore doesn't make one "normal" and the other not. Who decides who's normal anyway, how is that power given at all. The problem with ourselves today is the compassion for another has been lost unless it's beneficial to the self of course. That thought process makes us ugly as people.
The Suspension Stories Project, “Sent Down the Drain”
I'm not surprised that this tactic is being used. There's no way they are going to build prisons and not have ways of keeping people in the cells of those prisons. It just sucks that the target is always people of color. Anything to keep the working class in their place more or less. It always boils down to setting up systems of capitalizing on capital.
The expansion of intellect is a primary tool to any prophet of revolution...
Despite its hyperbole (or perhaps because of it), ‘A Nation At Risk’ became a timely cudgel for the larger privatization movement. With Reagan and Friedman, the Nobel-Prize-winning economist, preaching that salvation would come once most government services were turned over to private entrepreneurs, the privatizers began proselytizing to get government out of everything from the post office to the public schools. Corporations recognized privatization as a euphemism for profits. ‘Our schools are failing’ became the slogan for those who wanted public-treasury vouchers to move money into private schools. These cries continue today.
Dean Paton, “The Myth Behind Public School Failure” (via criticalu)
It's amazing how the blame is placed on the individuals that are actually holding up their end of the purpose of education in the first place. Those who give the knowledge and those who are receiving it are entirely in the right. The one who is failing education the most is the system itself. Those in the higher seats pulling the strings only to promote all actions in their favor. The ideals of capitalism are embedded so deep into our society that chase for capital itself no longer has any limitations. They even want to drain the freedom of our gaining knowledge, blatantly showing a disregard for the societal consequences. Where do we draw the line and stop allowing ourselves to be swindled out of our most basic rights. If they are going to profit from something as simple as the education of our future generations imagine the next little yet vital thing they will get theirs hands on next.
