“Are you a lore clan?” no I’m a snore clan I have vague ideas about how my bunch of dragons interact with each other in my head but before I ever really sit down and write it out I’m overtaken by lack of productivity so I just do other things instead.
BARK BARK BARK
A shade monster made of twigs, leaves and mud. They vary between kitten and medium dog sizes. These creatures hide in leave piles and brambles within shadow, popping out of hiding to chase passersby.
‘A shade monster’, it says.
Me, an outlier:

There’s gotta be some really gross, obnoxious sea gulls on the border between the sea of a thousand currents and the scarred wasteland.

THESE DRAGONS ARE ADORABLE
Remember that one legendary Irish Drinking Song
it really was inevitable that my horny ass would make cum dragons

you ever think about what the implications of the auction house must be like in game, like
you have super wealthy clans selling everything from gold ore to freaking twigs on this national market, the summer breeze itself is literally just a handful of dead grass. There are super wealthy clans dealing in silks and high demand swipp trade items and then there’s me multiple other clans buying cobwebs and bloodied bandages and slapping it onto their clan mates like what the fuck debra buy a clean bandage for crissakes
Wow This new game is pretty gnarly!

Hello, everyone. I know that this isn’t REALLY FR-related, but this person seems to be following a LOT of flight rising blogs, so I feel like it’s really important to get this out here, just in case anyone hasn’t heard about this guy. This person’s been known to harass other artists(to the point where the cops were called on him TWICE), and steals art from other people(dragon art specifially) to repost on other websites, like DA and Tumblr. I have a feeling that they’re going to try and steal FR art too, which is why I’m putting this here. Hell, they’ve even started to follow this particular blog, along with some of the FR staff. I honestly wouldn’t doubt that they’re going to make an account when he’s able to, and start to harass the artists here, too. If you ever get a message like this, I would reccomend not saying anything at all, and just blocking him. (sorry that this isn’t really censored, I feel like it shouldn’t because this guy can be a serious threat to our community.)
do you ever have that one dragon that is Definitely Not their birth flight what do you mean there’s a whole lot of stuff covering the eyes hahahahah aha h a a a a h a
Edgy Wind dragons, huh?
How about Wind dragons who decorate their lairs with singing stones, the kind that produce eerie notes when the wind blows through them.
So they’re sitting there, up in their lair, feeling Edgy, so they start a wind current off through the stones to play their haunting, whistling tunes for ambiance. Creepy windchimes optional. Admittedly this is a little bit melodramatic. (also watch the local prankster rearrange the stones to Rickroll everyone)
Wind dragons who assume the typical ‘friendly Windie’ persona, who invite others into their lairs for a quick chat and a cup of tea… others who never return.
Either that, or becoming so loved and trusted by their communities that no one suspects them until it’s too late, because Wind dragons are always nice, right? And now… they know everyone’s dirty little secrets.
Making kite struts out of dragon bones, because they’re more magical and easier to enchant than bamboo can be.
Wind dragons who are masters of their element, who can steal your breath from your lungs and grin jovially as they watch you choke.
Groups of Wind dragons, playing and tumbling through the air, who lure you in with their acrobatic antics… and take you up. Up and up and up until the air thins and you can’t breathe and still they go up, dragging you with them…
i’m so glad i live in 2016 so i dont have to deal with these massive terrifying animals except the blue whale, but shes gentle and good

I think FR’s current problem is the lack of substantial content updates.
You can give us more genes, more familiars, more items to collect but nothing substantial is added to gameplay.
I hate to make the Neopets comparison, but since that site is what birthed this genre I feel it’s not completely unwarranted.
The world of Neopia, regardless of the state that the site is in currently, was really developed. The different regions all had very defined personalities with NPCs who held down their own jobs and helped flesh out the world. The closest thing we have to that are the Trading Post dragons.
There are/were many different site events with plot and characters with great rewards for participation. We have monthly copy-paste festivals that have not had any intrinsic changes since 2013.
On top of that, Neopets has a million and one activities you have contests, quests, the employment agency, gambling of many different shades and stocks. On FR…we have the coli (which doesn’t limit daily drops like NP), we have Baldwin and Swipp…and that’s just about it? (I wouldn’t bring up the fairgrounds because NP has a much larger backlog of games).
I don’t want Flight Rising to just be Neopets with a fresh coat of 2010s paint. I want FR to have its own voice and direction and to build far beyond it’s ancestor.
I don’t expect a four year old game to have the amount of content an eighteen year old one does, but what I’ve seen so far is more of the same and very little effort to expand the world. I appreciate the freedom on FR’s forums that allow users to make up for a lot of this content…but it should be supplemental, not a substantial part of the game.
When a new festival rolls around, there’s always some mild excitement over what new items will be released, but I feel that the community gets far more excited about big dom battles, or more namely, the user-run events that go with them.
I write out this long post because I know FR can do better, and I REALLY want to see it flourish. I’ve stuck around for three years and I hope to play for much longer. I keep hoping that once the rewrite is finished, they’ll be able to start working on these sorts of things. But as more and more time passes, I’m losing hope :(
I feel this. Most of the really great stuff on the site has been user-created. There’s been smatterings of site stuff, and I think they worry they might over-run user lore? But you can’t bank on your users doing all your world building for you.
Like. I won’t say I’m losing hope, but considering the site drags it’s ass on things like accessibility or just, you know, functionality, it feels like there’s a big fire and they’re just slowly patting a blanket over it to fix it.
I mean, I get it, it costs a lot of money to run the site but nobody is gonna spend money on gems if the only thing you use their money for is more apparel and use the small amount left on the slowest site rewrite known to man.
Shit, they could even have a world building contest. SOMEthing. Don’t make your users do all your work for you in building a rich tapestry based on some origins lore you wrote a few years ago.
Yes. Yes to all of this.
I feel like FR is a bunch of half complete ideas thrown together. For instance, Dom is supposed to be a huge thing in game but it effects so little it almost doesn’t matter who wins. Then there is the coli, which also is supposedly a big thing (gameplay wise), but has so little guidance or story that it just feels out of place.
If “finished”, these things could be really great! You wouldn’t have to grind in the coli for hours and dom would actually be a thing EVERYONE wants (i.e. I know many people on tumblr love dom but it feels to me that very few people actually on site care at all).
But it always feels like they just aren’t even trying. Heck the sites own guide isn’t even up to date (not even including the lore for the site- every thing in the encyclopedia is out of date).
I’ll say it again: they’re hesitant to do anything remotely drastic because they are afraid. Afraid of the site crashing. Afraid of backlash from the users. Afraid of any and all risks associated with major change - bugs, exploitation, site lag, user satisfaction. That’s why we only get apparel and genes - it’s safe.
They are a team of, what, 3 admins? With a handful of mods and artists? Do they even have a customer support team?
They can’t grow the site because they’re afraid they can’t handle the risks that come with it. And, given how small their team is, it’s a reasonable fear. They can’t handle the additional support, the content creation, site management, etc. Need I remind everyone: we still don’t have open signups? Like 1 week a month? What kind of site, a game, a company, limits and paces how many users they allow to use their product?
A group who cannot sustain it. And that’s no way to grow :C
We will probably never see anything huge until they take that jump. And unless they suddenly hire more people, get themselves staffed and supported, all of their ideas will remain on hold, and we’ll continue getting new apparel and familiars until that day comes.
