Not super unusual to her but maybe to other people. Ruby has fallen asleep in her garden multiple times, especially in the fall. Pumpkins make surprisingly great pillows.

Ruby’s childhood home will always be the most special place in her life. It was the only place where she, her brother, and their mother were truly happy. Things were simple and easy there, she wishes she could go back to that time daily.

Yes, Ruby had the opportunity to finally find out more about her father, which would have helped her reconnect with her brother, but she was too nervous to break her blissful ignorance and decided not to pursue it. She regrets it to this day.

Ruby has actually never been in love yet! She has had a couple random dates but she has never been in a serious relationship due to her moving around so much and being focused on her craft.

Noelle stopped dead in her tracks and glanced around. “Wait, are you talking to me?” She asked. The girl looked at the group of flowers and groaned. “Uhhh, I don’t know. I’m not the best at… flowers.” She chuckled and shrugged. “I think it those ones…” Pointing to the lilies. “Look good alone, the others should be bunches.” She laughed and shook her head. “I’m sorry, I’m really not good at this.” 

Ruby looked down to consider the suggestion. “Actually you should give yourself more credit, I completely agree with what you said,” she smiled. “People think flowers are all technical and all that, but it’s all about how they make you feel, you know? So no one can really be bad at it if you ask me,” she shrugged. “Here, why don’t you have one for helping me out?” she offered as she held out one of the calla lilies.

Min’s childhood was similar, it was far slower than what seemed to be the norm here, even for a smaller sized town. Far quieter.

“A sweet start to the day does sound nice,” he smiled, “But you can always get that in the form of a nice piece of fruit too.” tossing the box in his basket regardless, “I’m sure no one will mind if I have these for dessert instead of breakfast.” He shook his head, “Not particularly. I had a… Very strict academic regimen I had to follow so staying in peak physical and mental condition was important. It still is.” Really the rest of his items reflected that. “Sweets were only for special occasions. – What about you?” A small smile, “You seemed to have strong opinions about the cookie crisps over the lucky charms.” 

Ruby nodded, academics had never been her strong suit but she knew sugar wasn’t exactly a good long-term plan for succeeding. She chuckled at his question and shrugged. “What can I say, cookies seem more appealing than dried marshmallows. Actually my mother had taught me to cook and bake from a young age, we had enough land where I grew up to have a decent garden for everything we needed. Except of course flour,” she smirked and gestured to her own basket with the item in it. “I suppose I’ve always liked seeing what goes into my food, but there’s always an opportunity for exceptions. So...with such an academic past, you must have a very academic career,” she joked.

Glancing up from her phone Scout smiled, “Hit me.” she slipped her hands into her skirt pocket, taking in her options, “Well, none of ‘em are quite as pretty as the woman holding ‘em but I think you could get away with the lilacs and the lilies or the daffodils and the lilacs but not all three together.” 

Ruby blushed, she was so focused on her work that the compliment took her by surprise. She smiled, a bit flustered. “Oh, thank you, this has probably been the best start to a day I’ve had in a very long time,” she laughed as she looked down at the flowers in her hands. “You are so right,” she nodded. “Thank you. I would definitely be kicking myself later if I didn’t get your name while I have you here though.”

     It certainly wasn’t very often, but occasionally Gabriella paused to appreciate the freedom she had now. Strolling along the street, the sun was warm and shining down on her, the air was clear and fresh, birds sang high in the trees. How wonderful, to not be trapped in the confines of hell, she did wonder if she sometimes took it for granted.      A voice snapped her from her reverie, eyes settling on the woman who clutched all those flowers in her arms. Now, the woman wasn’t an expert by any means, but she leaned forwards and stroked a petal with a delicately manicured hand thoughtfully. “Daffodils are so wonderful, but don’t they rather steal the show when you put them with others? The others would be fine in a bouquet, but those yellow delights are perfectly adequate alone, don’t you think?”

Ruby smiled, glad to see her daffodils impress. “You are so very right,” she nodded. “Besides, I’m sure people could use their bright, cheerful colours right now,” she chuckled. “Maybe a bouquet of daffodils with a bit of baby’s breath in the mix, what do you think? Oh! I haven’t even gotten the name of my wonderful helper. I’m Ruby,” she introduced herself, rearranging her grip on the flowers to free her right hand and extend it to the other.

“Oh, these are so pretty!” Addie exclaimed over the flowers. “Did you grow these yourself? That’s so cute. I could never do anything like gardening. I mean, the dirt that gets underneath your fingernails. Ugh. Can’t stand it.” She shook her head. “These are nice, though. Are you selling them?” She ran her finger along one of the lilac blossoms.

“Thank you!” Ruby smiled with pride. “Oh yes, I have a little greenhouse even for the ones that are out of season and need extra care,” she nodded, adding a little chuckle when the other mentioned all the dirt. “I suppose if it’s your passion, the dirt doesn’t bother you so much. I am selling them! I work at All In Bloom, I’m actually heading in now to bring these in. Would you like to join me?”

     “ Of course, ” Lorelai agreed in an instant, never one to turn away attention. She inspected the flowers, considering. “ What’s this for ? An event or your dining room table ? The lilacs are my favorite separately, personally, but only without knowing the setting details. ”

“Not for someone’s table just yet,” Ruby smiled. “I’m the florist at All In Bloom so I want to display them in the most eye-catching way once I bring them in. I’m just not sure what has more of an impact, a single stem or a full bouquet of the same sort of flowers.”

Basil paused in his step and took a casual glance over the flowers in his arms. “All individuals.” He indicated to all the flowers in her arms. “They clash. The daffodils are out of season.” 

Ruby frowned at the comment, until she realized the miscommunication and laughed. “Oh, no. I meant as individual flowers or as bouquets of like flowers, like a bouquet of all calla lilies,” she explained. “Well, in season or not I’m sure someone loves having them around.”

A smile when she chose, “Then the cookies are the victor. I definitely shouldn’t get both.” He placed the Lucky Charms back on the shelf, ignoring the rest of the cereal now, his focus entirely on the woman in front of him, “I’ve never had any of these before, I’ve noticed that they’re all sugar. My parents would have never allowed it.” Granted he hadn’t had most things in this store before. “I think my mind runs a little too fast as it is without my imagination getting in the way of things. Do people here eat cookies for breakfast often?”

Ruby laughed, she herself had mostly grown up on whatever her mother made from scratch, which was more impressive to her now that she was an adult. “Well, maybe some people would choose that often. Donuts are also very popular, so really I think people just like a sweet start to their day,” she explained. “So your parents never let you have anything sweet? I couldn’t imagine going without sugar.”

Her arms were full of lilacs, calla lilies, and daffodils that she had grown herself. “Which ones of these looks better as a bunch and which ones as individuals? I really can’t make up my mind.”

“namaste,” bronwyn said, joining her palms together at heart level and bowing her head. her class repeated the word back to her, mimicking the motion and everyone began to pack up their belongings. 

when she had realized all of the slots for her “yoga in the park” series were filled, bronwyn almost couldn’t believe it. sure, she expected a few but never did she imagine there would be people asking to be wait-listed if someone dropped out. brownyn grabbed the bottle of water from her bag, downing almost half of it before getting back on her yoga mat and moving into tree pose when she sensed someone staring at her. 

“can i help you?” she wondered, directing her question at whoever the culprit was, but remaining in her stance.

Ruby wasn’t really a fan of active hobbies, but when she’d heard there would be yoga in the park, she couldn’t help but sign up. Good thing too, because the spots filled so fast. She had hoped to speak to the instructor after that class, so when it ended she picked up her water bottle and walked over. Unfortunately by the time she got to the front, Bronwyn was already in a new pose and Ruby hated the thought of disturbing her. She didn’t speak until the other asked the question. “Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to bother you,” she said, embarrassed. “I just wanted to thank you for doing this. Having it in the park I mean. It’s the perfect spot for those of us who don’t want to be cooped up.”

Grocery shopping (at least like this, in a ac’ed building where nearly everything was artificial) was not something Min Jae was accustomed to. Everything was so colorful; everything said buy one get one 50% off so he had to buy multiple boxes of cereal. Especially the ones with the fun characters on the front that said snappy catchphrases. Maybe he was a little overwhelmed.

“This one is is just little cookies I’m meant to drown in milk. That’s just dessert.” He held up one box, “But this one promises charms that bring me luck and possibly…” He turned the box over, reading the back, “– A prize? Amazing.” He held one out in each hand, “Which do you like?”

Ruby had just come to pick up some flour for her next baking spree when she decided to browse through the aisles. She usually only had what she grew herself in her kitchen, so she was a bit distracted when she heard his voice. Smiling, she looked between the two cereal options before nodding and pointing to the first box. “Cookies, definitely. As long as you have it first thing in the morning, anything can be breakfast. Let your imagination run wild,” she laughed.

(LILY COLLINS, 29, SHE/HER) We have been waiting for a while, but RUBY CRANE was finally spotted in the village today. People heard whispers that they are a WITCH that is hellbent on [ fixing ] the veils. Will they succeed? Only time can tell. Until then we will keep a close eye on them as they listen to I LIVED BY ONEREPUBLIC.

INTRO:

Growing up, it was just Ruby, her mom, and her older brother living in the English countryside. She loved her childhood, always feeling so attached to nature in their garden, a close bond between her two other family members. Things there were peaceful, at least until her brother started asking questions about their father. Ruby had never cared to know anything about him, and their mother didn’t seem to want to talk about it either. 

This cause a rift between Ruby and her brother, he wanted answers and she was fine living in ignorance. Her brother left to find more information on the man, and suddenly Ruby’s home felt empty. Where she used to feel safe and warm now felt odd and cold. Just when she thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did. 

Ruby’s mother was in a car accident and was left in a coma. Ruby stayed by her hospital bedside for weeks, trying to find a way to heal her. But her mother had always told her not to mess with the rules of death with their magic, and as much as it hurt her, she knew her mother would never forgive herself if there was a price to pay. Then, after a month, her mother was gone.

Ruby felt lost, being alone for the first time. She moved around a bit, trying to find her place in the world, but eventually moved to Wildemount just before the dome was created. She hates the feeling of being trapped, so she was relieved when it was gone, and yet somehow she still stayed. It was starting to feel like home.

CONNECTIONS:

brother (open): sort of specific so might go up as a wanted connection!

friends (0/3): Ruby doesn’t tend to get super close to a lot of people at once, but since being in town she has made a couple of close friends that are the reason she decided to stay.

bad influence (Eze): someone who seems to be good at getting Ruby to do things that aren’t quite...moral. She’s a bit lost and naive, but also wants to experience everything life has to offer.
