literature family: aelin galathynius for @scvthian
❝ She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart — and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph. ❞
— T H E W I N T E R C O U R T
Viviane had not been Under the Mountain. As her childhood friend, Kallias had been protective of her to a fault over the years—had placed the sharp-minded female on border duty for decades to avoid the scheming of his court. He didn’t let her near Amarantha, either. Didn’t let anyone get a whiff of what he felt for his white-haired friend, who had no clue—not one—that he had loved her his entire life. And in those last moments, when his power had been ripped from him by that spell … Kallias had flung out the remnants to warn her. To tell Viviane he loved her. And then he begged her to protect their people.
So she had.

Feysand pregnancy headcanons
The first person to find out after Feyre herself is Mor.
She finds out even before Rhys, because she catches Feyre, as the healer is leaving, with a hand lightly pressed against her lower stomach.
Mor squeals and wraps Feyre in a hug.
“Rhys is going to cry when you tell him!” She laughs.
-
Rhys doesn’t cry.
But his worshiping of his mate increases tenfold.
He can’t be near Feyre without his hand gently grazing the side of her growing bump.
-
The rest of the Inner Circle is overjoyed, even Nesta smiles and shares a hug with Feyre when they announce the news to their family at dinner one night.
They don’t announce it officially until Feyre starts to show, the difficulty of Fae pregnancies makes them reluctant to share the news too soon.
Even then their initial announcement comes in the form of a visibly pregnant Feyre taking a walk through Velaris with Rhys, bursting with pride that his mate is pregnant with his child.
A couple of Velaris residents stop their High Lord and High Lady in the street to congratulate them on the pregnancy.
There is a celebration in the Rainbow for the future heir of the Night Court that involves music and dancing and hundreds of people attend.
-
The official announcement comes in the form of letters to each of the six other High Lords and a visit to the Hewn City.
The visit there is brief, and a smug Mor breaks the news on the behalf of her High Lord and High Lady, each sat on a throne in the centre of the cavernous space.
Rhys’ power rumbles protectively through the room, challenging anyone to dare to say a word against his pregnant mate.
No one says a word other than a chorus of tense congratulations.
One resident of the Hewn City does seem to be happy and congratulates them on the news with a bow as they leave.
-
They receive responses from five of the six High Lords.
A teasing note from Helion.
It reads, “Glad to hear you’ve been busy. I look forward to a visit from your court when your newest member arrives.”
Along with a tiny gold circlet that with short spines that makes it appear like a sunrise.
Thesan and Kallias both send their congratulations, and their letters express joy at the idea of the new life.
A more personal congratulations comes in the form of the note and gift Varian brings from Tarquin, a small, hand-knitted sea-blue blanket.
-
The most surprising response comes from the Spring Court.
A short message that says, “I wish your growing family the best.”
Along with a mobile, with leaves and insects hanging from the branches.
Feyre swears it’s the hormones that bring the tears to her eyes.
-
These aren’t the only gifts they receive.
The Velaris residents like to leave small gifts at the door of the townhouse.
Things like a fruit basket, handmade children’s clothes, a handful even have slots for wings in the back. Others leave trinkets for good wishes.
-
When they baby is finally born, the labour goes as smoothly as a Fae labour can go.
Rhys does cry this time when he hears the cries of his first born son.
He grips Feyre’s hand as the other cradles the baby swaddled on her chest.
He cries with joy for his family, and the gift that the love of his life has given him.
Our friends kept waiting for us to come up, but hey- when you’re the son of Poseidon, you don’t have to hurry.

g_underwood who’s taking all these pictures? why are you hanging out without me?!
I am a hard Elriel shipper but I have to admit it’s hard to know if that’s the way Maas is heading with the characters or if Elain will end up with anyone at all. So I wanna talk about an alternative. I want to talk about the idea that the relationship between Elain and Az might not end up being romantic but rather familial. Elain is by far the most traditionally feminine character in the inner circle and adjacent groups. Soft, floral, demure. She couldn’t fathom wearing Illyrian clothing or pants in general. Maybe she is everything Azriel’s mother was denied. We know he isn’t over Mor and I don’t imagine SJM putting him and Elain together romantically until that is fixed, so maybe the connection they have is because Azriel looks at Elain and sees the potential for grace and nobility that have been marred by circumstance. He sees someone who has been denied a ‘good marriage’ because of how she was reborn. Someone who is good and decent but also marred by something different, something she cannot entirely control. And many of those things resonate with Az. So close and yet so far from nobility. Deprived of things she loves because of how she was created. Struggling with a power that makes her a desirable tool but that can be terrifying when it isn’t understood. Maybe she is a kindred spirit to him, a sister, someone he wants to protect and care for in a way that he and his mother never were cared for.
