I absolutely cannot stand criticism of a story that just amounts to "the ending wasn't happy." if art made me feel sad or angry when it was over, that was good art! I think definitive closure frequently ruins endings, it's incomprehensible to me that for some people that and good vibes are the only metric to measure quality by. "What was the point if these characters didn't end up together? I stopped caring when I found out this character dies." You are a space alien to me there's no way you actually think an ending sucked if it wasn't happily ever after, that's not real.
