It's been a hell of a month or so.
So, after my step-grandmother fell, it turned out she injured herself rather badly. Gouged the front of her thigh on the corner of a small nightstand- and I mean, she gouged the hell out of it. It was roughly 5" long, nearly 1" wide at its worst, and very deep. It didn't stop bleeding for a couple days, so my mom and I finally managed to convince her to go to urgent care to have it assessed. 2 days later we ended up in the wound clinic with her, because it was still bleeding, and she wouldn't go to the ER (kind of understandable tbh). 8 hours and a rather intense debridement session later, we left with strict instructions on how to care for the wound for the next few weeks.
Well. About a week into her recovery, she had a stress-induced cardiac event. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, aka broken heart syndrome. Basically she had a heart attack without the blockage or typically permanent damage associated with one. So, two weeks after the hospital stay that had caused her fall in the first place (they sent her home dehydrated with low blood pressure), she was back in the hospital for several days. She recovered really well from that, thankfully.
Before and after her release, I've been tending to the gaping hole in her leg. According to multiple doctors who have seen her since, my wound care skills are top notch. Kinda cool to hear, especially given just how bad this injury was. As well as taking care of her health-wise, my mom and I have been spending a lot of time tending to all sorts of stuff around the house, grocery shopping, etc. for the old farts.
But finally, I can say that the wound is nearly closed. She's graduated from the specialty silicone bandages to a normal ex-large bandaid, and I expect it will be finished closing within the next week. Then maybe I can go back to only having to see them every 2 weeks instead of every single day.
