Turning Your Kid’s Drawings Into Badass Characters by Thomas Romain.
I really want to fight that three headed skeleton demon thing.
I want to watch an entire anime about that cool hoverboard girl at the top
I’ve said this before but I love how this demonstrates the importance of concept over execution. The kids have stellar imagination and you know their dad’s final art is the kind of vivid image they already had in mind.
Adults saw my drawings when I was little but it rarely felt to me like they SAW my drawings. Their minds didn’t translate what I put on paper to what I was actually going for. If an adult did something like this for me back then I’d have felt so validated.
Contrast that with a similar series that went around years ago:
THIS LOOKS COOL, don’t get me wrong. I genuinely like the effect of directly translating this design. But if I were the kid who drew the original picture, I’d feel like the final version was kind of making fun of my imperfect technical skills.
