'Dark souls" is a mail club for art-admirers who embrace the darkness in themselves. The artworks are inspired by my own mental health struggles.

My artwork about grief💞
I made this painting for drawtober 2023, the prompt was “ghostly ballroom”. I thought about two lovers dancing, where one of them is gone. The memory of them persists in the women’s mind, but as she gets older, the memory is slowly fading away. I added some of my writing from the (art)book I’m making about my mental health.
A digital painting I made of my father inspired by a self-portrait made by Edvard Munch. I took this photograph for a school assignment a long time ago. Because my father’s birthday was coming up, I decided I wanted to paint this photograph of him.
I wanted to depict the loneliness and melancholy of substance abuse. This is a topic that hits close to home.
This artwork took a long time to make. For once, I’m proud of something I made.
Landscape painting (digital art, 2023).
This is the first landscape artwork I made digitally. At that time, I was way more experienced in drawing techniques than painting techniques, but with this artwork I tried to work like a painter. I started with big shapes instead of lines to get the essence of the artwork. Then, I slowly started to add more and more details. This efficient way of working made it possible for me to finish the artwork in one (long) sitting.
Digital painting progress (I’m really proud of the result 🥰) Digital still life I did to practice with colour. The challenge was to not colour pick from the reference, but still try to make the painting rich in colour. Although I’m not a big fan of photorealistic paintings (I prefer expressing myself in my artworks instead of just copying a photograph), I’m happy I finally finished this artwork after not touching it for one year. What do you think about photorealistic art?
“Artist’s room”, digital line art (progress)
I made a three point perspective drawing of my own room.
I’m proud of the details in this line art :). Also, shout out to you if you recognize the lp’s and cd’s on the shelves.
I started off with drawing the floor plan. Then I warped this floor plan into perspective and began sketching the furniture on top of it. The progress:
The reference is used loosely:
At the moment, I’m working on coloring this piece. I'm doing this from imagination:
Revisiting this art account :) I will be posting again
I don't think I ever introduced myself on here. Hello, my name is Vera and I'm 22 years old. I started drawing when I was 16 years old. At that time, I mostly did fan art of my favourite musicians and bands. This kind of art doesn't attract me anymore because nowadays I feel the need to express myself more. I'm still thankful for this time because I drew a lot and developed my skills quickly.
The best decision for my art journey was buying a drawing tablet. Now a small hobby became a passion. I'm mostly an audidact, I watched a lot of youtube tutorials about art to enhance my knowledge. A big passion for lightning in artworks grew. I love creating strong moods in artworks like you can see on the artworks here. When I draw, I feel like I'm entering another world - a world I desperately want to escape to.
I spent the last month in a mental hospital where I had a lot of time to draw and think. Now I know for sure I want to be an artist when I'm older. Mental health has a big influence on my daily life, and lately I have been creating artworks about my life journey. I still need to finish and post these artworks, but this is the direction I'm headed for this account.
Back to nature (2018), soft pastel
In this artwork I wanted to portray the connection people have with nature (or nowadays more the lack thereof). I let myself be inspired by my favorite art movements: art nouveau and romanticism.
I would consider this artwork an important milestone in my art journey. For this artwork, I thought a lot more about the meaning and feeling I wanted to portray with my art. Instead of copying a photograph I found on the internet, I took my own photography for this project. This ensures full creative freedom, helping me develop an artwork that is fully mine.
I do have a love-hate relationship with this artwork. There are so many things I would do differently now (ugh the proportions!!), that’s why I’m planning on repainting this artwork now (5 years later), it would love to see how my style has evolved since then.

Nature drawings
Nature has always been one of my biggest inspiration source for my art
A sketch I made for a bigger artwork. In the second picture there is a collage I made to get me inspired for this project, I photographed my sister for this.
Hey hey, I made a sketchbook flip through video of the high school sketchbook I made for art class. It consists of sketches, photocopies of my drawings, photography and a lot of collages to explore ideas. I made this sketchbook when I was around 15 years old, at the moment I'm 20 years old and I'm on a journey to become a professional self-taught artist. Here are some snippets from the video! Let me know what you think :)
Lana, 2018, graphite pencil * Again, an old drawing from 2018. I am posting art in chronological order from old to new. I can't wait to post art that I made recently, this new art represents me more as a person, it has a lot more creativity and thus self-expression to it. When I started making art (around 2017) I mostly drew exactly from photographs, copying pixel by pixel. In contrast with the new art I make, this is something you can do mindlessly, which can be really therapeutic. It creates a moment where you can just turn off your thoughts and run on automatic pilot.
I really like how I did the details of this ink piece. I did this piece from imagination. There was no intention to make it an art piece in the first place, I just started doodling some flowers, I eventually kept adding more and more
"Don't you speak over my voice I will return from the shadows"
