Nettle: What’s one person your character hates/dislikes and why?

MMMM WRIGHT I’M COMING FOR YOU.Kristoph dislikes Phoenix Wright. First of all, to him, the man was a klutz at the beginning of his career, never prepared and never having enough evidence, and yet he always ended up winning, even against prodigies like Edgeworth (whom he also doesn’t like but that’s a story for another time). Compared to Kris, who put all he had into his career – who had to, who didn’t have the luxury of getting lucky – he was such a cop-out. Then Gramarye took Wright as his attorney… because of a poker game, of all things? That would have been making a mockery of law if he’d ever seen it. Then, the obvious part. Wright saw through his gambit of killing Gramarye all those years later, and played him like a fiddle. The fact that he didn’t see it coming only incenses him further, and so does Wright’s level of audacity, that he would use Kristoph’s own student to turn the tables on him.

I MEAN, NO, THAT’S NOT IT.

I’m having a really hard time with this one for some reason. I imagine he might send a message (and avoid speaking in person) to Klavier, along the lines of:I’m surprised you could bear to put away your own brother, guilty though he might be. I had thought your family was more important to you, but you have proven to me otherwise, Klavier.But honestly I’m not sure if he would try to poison it. I’d like to think Kristoph knows when he’s done and needs to bide his time.

Thistle: What’s one time your character has been angry and harsh with someone?

Putting aside the trials where he’s accused, definitely he’s been angry and harsh with Klavier in the past. Kristoph has the utmost respect for the law (haha ironic), so when Klavier announced that he was starting the Gavinners, Kristoph would have seen that as putting his law career in jeopardy, and for what? A foppish boy-band singing mockeries of love stories in the court? I imagine that was not a good time.

Geranium: What’s one mistake your character remembers making?

Looking at him objectively, Kristoph has made a lot of mistakes. Like, for example, killing multiple people. However, if he thinks about it, the one decision that he regards the most as a mistake would be choosing to kill Zak Gramarye at a point when Wright was there to figure out who had done it. For all his preparation, that was the instant when his facade started to unravel and he was figured out. If he had evaded Phoenix at that point, or perhaps killed Gramarye before Wright had met with him, he would have likely escaped any notice, and even if he was still under Wright’s suspicion, he still would have been able to return the favor.

The logical conclusion upon arriving to a strange city, Kristoph reflected, was to assume no one you knew also dwelled within its confines. He hadn’t been locked away so long that he’d forgotten the lay of the city where he lived, and a mere cursory glance told him this one wasn’t it.

So suffice it to say that he expected a city of strangers. Upon exiting the building he had been in at the start, he rounded a corner onto another street. The idle chatter of the city met his ears, muted enough that he could not make out individual words. At once it was much closer and further away than the noise in solitary had been, all around him and yet much quieter. He found he rather liked it.

With no pressing developments needing his attention (and why would they? After all, he was a nobody in this city, with no law office to call his own), he merely stood for a moment, observing. It was this that finally led his eyes to a head of spiky black hair, slicked back into that absurd shape he’d grown used to seeing around.

Kristoph’s lips tightened and his hand, resting on the crook of his other arm, clenched the fabric of his sleeve between its fingers.

“Wright,” he said, as the man grew close enough to hear him.

Freedom was disconcerting at first.

After a time behind bars, Kristoph had allowed himself the concession of looking less dignified. But as the open air draped against his hands and face, he found himself returning to his former posture, straight-backed, the kind of posture that made him feel like the rest coolest defense in the west.

He had regained enough of his old alertness that as he rounded a corner, he was just able to avoid someone walking the other way. A quick sweep of his eyes showed someone he didn’t recognize, and he offered a short bow of his head, tucking his arms behind his back.

“Pardon me,” he said politely to the young woman dressed in yellow. “I find myself unfamiliar with this setting; my apologies.”
