( JAMIE !
“Och, don’t talk nonsense.”
Jamie rolled his eyes, expression an even match between fondness and exasperation as he nudged his shoulder sidelong into the Doctor’s.
“Thinkin’ about the seaside willnae keep ye warm all on it’s own. There isnae a man alive who can keep out the cold by sheer force'ae his will.”
He gave away his delight with soft laughter and a self-satisfied smile.
“It does me some good, anyway,” he said. Strangely enough, his breath failed to rise in the chilled air. “And it might do you. The important thing is that you needn’t worry about me at all, Jamie; I promise you I shall manage more capably than your knees do in this weather!”
The Doctor looked up. Light snow was beginning to fall and evening was settling in.
“Besides. It’s only a little ways further on, isn’t it?” He may yet have cause to reassure himself as much as the boy. “Try and keep up, won’t you!”
