Stardew Valley mod fans, I need some help.

I am losing my vision, and it's getting harder to see details like how many items I have in a stack. Is there a mod that can help with this? It could be something that reads things out loud (for instance saying "20 wood" if you have your cursor on that inventory space) or maybe a magnifying glass to zoom in on small text in menus or increasing the font size itself.

I would like to be able to keep playing Stardew Valley for as long as I can, so any help is appreciated!

Just remembered the trauma of being a disabled person in a world that does not want you alive and isn't ashamed to admit it. Just remembered that class a year ago where my right to survive my birth and infancy was not so much debated as it was criticized. Just remembered that I'm never really going to get over that.

i’m taking an introduction to disability studies course this semester and because my instructor is incredible, all of the material we’ve been reading is available as pdfs, so i decided to start a google drive of that plus some other pieces i’ve collected. if you want to check out some disability lit it’s here!

I got diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism last week and was put on some medication. I had been dismissing my recent symptoms as part of my chronic illness, but this medication is helping some of that be better! Sometimes a diagnosis is good news.

doing anything is hard when you’re depressed but sitting around in apathy ain’t gonna help. get the fuck up. seriously. do one thing. open the curtains. dust your monitor. throw away those leftovers in the fridge from last week. clean the bathroom sink. its an ocean of bullshit and you need to swim. break the cycle of misery and guilt and apathy so you can get better. its hard. do it anyway. recovery starts with breaking the cycle. baby steps, but steps.

it’s not ableist or anything to tell someone with depression to do something. look. it’s hard. it sucks. but you wont get better if you don’t do anything. depression is a cycle. you dont have energy to do things, so things dont get done, so you feel guilty, which makes you more depressed, with less energy, and so on. but you can’t recover if you dont start. you can’t get help without getting it. that’s a verb! you need to do it! do something! break the cycle and you’ll start to recover. it’s a long, difficult process, and you can’t do it alone, and you might need medication and therapy, but you can’t get on the road to recovery if you’re staying inside with the curtains closed. you can’t even open the curtains without taking baby steps. you can’t take baby steps until you stand up. so stand up.

It doesn’t have to be big. Moving from laying in bed to sitting on the couch is a great start.

And as someone who occasionally physically can’t sit up due to chronic illness flares, even watching something on YouTube that requires attention (I like science videos for this) counts as doing something.

It gets easier (at least the depression). The sparks of motivation get bigger as you listen to them. I believe in you.

A big excuse i hear when i talk about things not being accessible to disabled people is “well it wasnt on purpose. They just didnt think of it like that” or “they didnt do it cause they hate disabled people, they just forgot”

When i complained about how into the spider-verse, along with other movies, has flashing lights that caused seizures and has no made it so disabled people cant even be safe watching a movie, it was “oh well, they didnt mean to make it that way! They just didnt know. You cant hate them for not knowing” despite the fact this is a hugely common complaint made towards movies, especially action movies, and theres almosy always papework they need to fill out for safety precaution.

Or when i complained that there will be places that have three sets of stairs but no ramp or elevator, i got “well its not that they dont want disabled people there, they just didnt think to put one in”

Or when disabled people who play video games went to twitter and brought up the fact many are not safe and the controllers arent as accessible as they should be, they were slammed with the excuse “well how were people supposed to know disabled people played video games?”

The list goes on. And what people dont get is that not knowing isnt an excuse, forgetting us isnt an excuse, excluding us simply because you didnt think to include us isnt an excuse for excluding us.

Ignorant ableism is still ableism, accidental ableism is still ableism and theres no excuses anymore.

You cant just “accidentally” forget disabled people exist, you cant just make a whole movie using lights that, for decades, have been criticized for being life threatening to disabled people and then have fans defend it with “well they didnt know”. You cant just say “its okay that this franchise made a dangerous video game and this corporation made consol after consol not accessible because they didnt think disabled people could play video games, and have that be a valid excuse.

Theres no valid reason why disabled people cant watch movies, go to places, and play games without it being accessible and safe, theres no valid reason to forget we exist.

Theres no valid reason to not include us, theres only ableist reasons. And sometimes that reason is "they hate disabled people” and other times its “they forgot about disabled people cause they never bothered to remember” or its “they didnt think to include disabled people because they dont care”.

Stop excusing this shit.

I was talking with my mom because I’m having a back pain flare up and I also happen to be low on both Motrin and Aleve. She’s at work when things are open, so I would have to find someone else to take me to the store to get the meds.

I was leaning toward just suffering the pain instead of asking someone to take me because “I want to be a good friend, not someone who is always asking for things.”

My mom said not to associate those two things together. She said, “Being a good friend is being a good friend, and asking for help when you need it is asking for help.”

I ended up asking my grandmother to take me and inviting her to lunch. She said yes, so we’re going tomorrow. This conversation with my mom gave me a lot to think about in terms of how I view my role in a friendship or any other kind of relationship.
