I feel like this bit of dialogue is reallly not talked about enough?? Like. Rocky has just spent half a century alone. Watched 22 of his friends die. Gave his life for Grace once already. He's desolate in space and if he doesn't accept Grace's help his entire planet + species will go extinct and he immediately refuses it when he learns Grace is sacrificing himself and will die and never go home. What the hell are these two even on.

once again these are all from like the same two canvas files in procreate judging from the same color background. also straight up had a dream where grace and rocky figured out how to make gnocchi out of taumoeba hence the making gnocchi over a bunsen burner

i know rocky still technically got to play with the measuring tape in the movie but the way it happened in the book always makes me smile when I read it. :]

I feel like rocky being alone on the blip a for 46 years doesn't feel the way it was probably intended to feel.
I am guessing that it is supposed to be an overwhelmingly long amount of time, especially for grace and other humans (like the reader) who don't live as long as eridians, while also being impactful for rocky with his eridian lifespan.
But 46 is somehow too big of a number for "years of solitude in space" to matter to me.
It also sounds a little unrealistic? I don't feel like rocky would be at the stage of "knowledge about the system" that he is at when we meet him after 46 years. I feel like he would have much more info to share.
The number also feels too large in the context, to the point where its size stops mattering.
In my opinion, you could just as well have said "yeah rocky was up there for 300 years" and gotten the same effect.
So i am wondering
how long people think would seem appropriate for the "time that rocky was alone on the blip a"
