Song of the Day: Monday, 5/25/26 (#50)

Today's Song of the Day is "list" by wind is blue, released in 2026 as the second track from their EP dancer. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify and SoundCloud.

"list" is like an electropop/brostep/trap[EDM] mashup which is very loud and exciting. The electropop elements are maybe a little bit tired at this point, but I don't care because it's pretty fun and nasty. The lyrics are also kind of strange but kind of cool: "I'm in the woods with the trees made of rubies / I think I'm in danger, can we speed up please / I'm going 100 miles an hour / [UNINTELLIGIBLE]." I just really like the vibe of the track. Not much more to add, gang.

I hope you guys like this song as much as I do. I don't use Spotify recommendations often but it somehow always gives me peak.

Song of the Day: Thursday, 5/21/26 (#49)

Today's Song of the Day is "Bape ☆" by Tony Shhnow featuring Bear1Boss, released in 2022 as the eighth track from his mixtape Reflexions. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify and SoundCloud.

"Bape ☆" is an incredibly smooth experimental/plugg/trap track. The beat has a spacey synth bouncing around here, there and everywhere, with the drums stepping in like sparkling stars. The vocals kind of contrast that feeling, with Tony's not-exactly-smooth-but-not-necessarily-gritty flow kind of just sitting against it while Bear almost rubs up against the beat. It somehow works, though, even though Bear probably would do better on some free car music or something. It's just really beautiful somehow, which I suppose you could say for a lot of plugg.

Song of the Day: Wednesday, 5/20/26 (#48)

Today's Song of the Day is "Blackout" by demosoldier, released in 2026 as the third track from their album London Tek. You can find the Song of the Day on bandcamp and Spotify.

Another awesome fucking footwork track is what I bring you today. This one's from London Tek, which I would describe as footwork remixing grime. This one takes a couple already sick grime tracks and mixes them into airy, danceable footwork. The triangle or whatever hitting in the background somehow combines with the boofy bass hits and the quick rolling drums to create an environment of pure and clean energy.

Song of the Day: Tuesday, 5/19/26 (#47)

Today's Song of the Day is "THIS SHIT CRAY" by JANET featuring username, released in 2026 as the second track from their album III. You can find the Song of the Day on bandcamp and Spotify.

"THIS SHIT CRAY" is a fucking awesome footwork song. It heavily samples "x2" by Lil Uzi Vert from Pink Tape, mostly Uzi going "This shit, this shit cray" and so on and so forth. The vocals are pretty much the only aspect sampled, though; the instrumental is an entirely fresh footwork joint. The drums are very light and airy, playing around in a very username way (the drums on most of the rest of the album are a little bit more substantive, while username's work usually has very tappy and clicky drums, which we find on this song). I really like the usage of Uzi's vocals on this track, it's very entertaining and a little bit funny in an archetypal ghettotech way. There are also, as you will always find in footwork/ghettotech tracks, some juke elements here, which I enjoy as well. Not much else to say here, great track.

Song of the Day: Wednesday, 5/6/26 (#46)

Today's Song of the Day is "better Liar" by funeral, released in 2026 as the fourth track from his album EXILER. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.

This whole album marks a change for funeral. It's not a particularly shocking change, but it's a change nonetheless. He's moving towards a much poppier sound, and that's best exemplified by "better Liar," a bona fide electropop track. The synths in the background dance around like some Pop 2 shit, while funeral still has a strong emo bent to his vocals. I won't repeat myself, though: go check me out on ringtone mag!!!

Song of the Day: Tuesday, 5/5/26 (#45)

Today's Song of the Day is "Daddy AF" by Slayyyter, released in 2019 as the fifth single from her self-titled mixtape. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.

"Daddy AF" is a fucking awesome electro-pop-rap track. The bass has an incredible timbre and the beat is constantly hyper and in-your-face in a very Ayesha Erotica kind of way. Slayyyter is utterly oozing in charisma and presence on this track; her lyrics are asinine but still go hard as fuck ("I been fucking models, I been popping bottles") with the bulk of the song comprised of her "I feel daddy as fuck" refrain. It's a very sexual song which samples some fuckass audio of a girl saying "please come fuck me I'm horny," which is like whatever. I just adore the intensely confident energy Slayyyter exudes on this track.

I hope you guys love this song as much as I do. Whenever I listen to it there's this one part that sounds like someone calling my name and I pause the track and look backwards literally every time.

Song of the Day: Monday, 5/4/26 (#44)

Today's Song of the Day is "Subliminals" by Asian Doll featuring TaTa, released in 2022 as part of her mixtape Let's Do A Drill. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.

"Subliminals" is a hardcore hip hop track with elements of drill and trap metal. If you're not familiar with those genres, what that basically means is it goes hard as fuck. TaTa delivers a more trap metal-y performance with almost screamed raps, while Doll has a more drilly (but still somehow New York, I don't really understand how she does that) flow which isn't so much screamed but still incredibly aggressive. The beat has an almost nu-metal guitar alongside a typical drill drumline.

I hope you guys love this song as much as I do. It's not particularly special but I love aggressive shit like this.

Song of the Day: Sunday, 5/3/26 (#43)

Today's Song of the Day is "Suge" by DaBaby, released in 2019 as the second track from his debut album Baby on Baby, later released as its first single. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, and Apple Music.

"Suge" was a part of a trend DaBaby was following in 2019 called "no melody," today a much-maligned genre that I find to be something of a guilty pleasure. There's a sense in which this music is trashy, but I don't care all that much. No melody was a wave which involved very sparse beats with hard-hitting electronic drums, usually 808s, slow, steady flows, and as you can imagine, few to no melodic elements. S3nsi Molly is a queen of the shit, but DaBaby is easily the most popular rapper to follow the trend, and "Suge" was absolutely massive. DaBaby has incredible charisma on the mic, along with great one-liners, some of which ("I will turn a n**** into a convertible / Push me a lil n**** top back [Vroom!]") stayed in the collective consciousness for years. The beat is incredibly aggressive but also kind of comedic, as exemplified in the cartoonish music video. It's also kind of funny that both of the artists involved in this song have since fallen incredibly far out of fashion; DaBaby was EVERYWHERE in 2019-2021 and was set up by a "Levitating" feature spot to be THE rap feature on pop songs for like the next half decade, but went on a crazy homophobic rant and got cancelled, while JetsonMade, the producer, leaked some of Carti's music and got blackballed by the entire industry.

I hope you guys love this song as much as I do. Maybe love is a strong word these days.

Song of the Day: Saturday, 5/2/26 (#42)

Today's Song of the Day is "titles" by twikipedia and funeral, released as a single in 2021. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify and SoundCloud.

"titles" is an exciting digicore track with a wondrous booming bass, on which funeral and twikipedia both do their respective things to their usual standards. twikipedia's vaguely laminal flow and bilingual sing-song raps have their usual pleasing melodic effect, and funeral delivers a high-energy body horror verse, although it would have been cool to see him rapping in Spanish after twikipedia's Portuguese verse. His verse is actually hard as fuck, which caught me off-guard: "If I ever lived like you, I'd cut my fucking neck, yuh / Silence, all I want is silence, baby / Eyelids, bullet through his eyelids, baby" is some really good imagery. The soundscape of the song is unremarkable for digicore but well-executed, and I really like the verses.

Song of the Day: Friday, 5/1/26 (#41)

Today's Song of the Day is "Singapore" by Tom Waits, released in 1985 as the opening track from his album Rain Dogs. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, SoundCloud (requires premium subscription), and Apple Music.

"Singapore" was described by Waits himself in like thirty interviews as a kind of adventure song, going on a boat to some far-off place like Singapore or the Philippines (his notion, not mine), and that idea definitely was influential on the sound of the song. It sounds like a kind of demented shanty, the melody progressing up and down and up and down, with something that sounds like a demented marimba even though I can find no such instrument in any credits of the track. Maybe it was sampled. Anyways, the bass on the track is low and haunting, and all of this serves to complement Waits's Davy Jones ass lyrics and his spooky, gravelly sailor voice. His voice is always gravelly, but this is extra gravelly. His narrative of drinking and sailing is cutesy, though not super substantive beyond an aesthetic level, but it's a cool introduction to the album.

Song of the Day: Thursday, 4/30/26 (#40)

Today's Song of the Day is "hackksaw" by saint+cherub, released in 2021 as the first track from their EP mono:chrome. You cannot find the Song of the Day anywhere.

saint+cherub made music on bandcamp for some time and I picked this EP up in 2022. I was the only one to purchase it before it got taken down for unknown reasons and I think it only exists on my hard drive and maybe the hard drive of the person who made it. Hit me up if you want to listen to it. Anyways, it's a repetitive drum n bass track with a really strong understanding of the fundamentals of drum n bass; namely, the drums and the bass. The sole break of the track has a really strong timbre, with a meatiness to its kicks and hi hats that a lot of drum n bass does not, and the chopping of the break is done quite well. The bass, on the other hand, is low, electronic, and rumbling, while still being composed of notes rather than being a bassLINE; it forms a really interesting electronic/acoustic contrast with the breakbeat. This whole EP is really good for relaxation and similar activities; it's a shame it was taken down.

Song of the Day: Wednesday, 4/29/26 (#39)

Today's Song of the Day is "Yeah Right" by Vince Staples, released in 2017 as the seventh song from his album Big Fish Theory. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.

"Yeah Right" is an astonishing industrial hip hop/deconstructed club banger produced by the one and only SOPHIE with a surprise feature from Kendrick Lamar. In one sense the track is geographically grounded, with Kendrick explicitly nodding to both artists' L.A. origins (Vince from Long Beach, Kendrick from Compton); in another it exists in the internet-world, digital in all its facets from production to vocal manipulation. The lyrics are largely free-associative jumbled nonsense, although you can pick out meaning from them if you think about it; the real value in this song is just the pure shape of the sound. It's aggressive and energetic without being inherently loud. The bass is so heavily textured that it somehow is the focal point of the track despite being in the background, and the foreground percussion melts away into it. Occasionally a strange synth I don't understand will hop into the track, but whatever. The real attraction of this song is the vibration of it, the way that its beat can somehow at once be a banger of an industrial hip hop beat and also an homage to club and deconstructed club music. Kendrick's feature is also a high point, because his vocal performance and flow is pretty exquisite.

Song of the Day: Tuesday, 4/28/26 (#38)

Today's Song of the Day is "Che fastidio!" by Ditonellapiaga, released in 2026 as the second single from her album Miss Italia. You can find the Song of the Day on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

"Che fastidio!" is a dance/electropop bop, which also demonstrates the bizarre nature of Italian orthography, because why is the chi shit normalized. Anyways, the main focus of this track is a funky synth jumping around upbeat and jubilant, while Ditonellapiaga's sultry voice delivers lyrics which sound awesome but I can't really understand. "Che fastidio" means "que fastidio" que significa "what trouble!" o similar. The drums are cut off and snappy, providing a very fast-feeling song, which is a strange description for a song. The song goes through a couple distinct phases, in the end touching very, very lightly on industrial themes sonically, which is kind of cute. I just really like when she says "Che fastidio!" to be honest.
