as the campaign comes to an end, i wanted to say thank you to veth brenatto. as a queer asian girl who grew up desperately trying to conform to mainstream western beauty standards and failing, and as someone who tried her hardest to fit in every day.

i got into critical role when i was at a pretty low point in terms of self-image. i came in with no expectations- just looking for something else to watch, and expecting that d&d would be filled with tall, skinny, gorgeous white elves and knights and damsels, or something. (clearly i did not know much about d&d.) instead i ended up finding comfort in the art of veth that popped up every week: especially the wide nose and the shape of her eyes, similar to mine. i found comfort in her description: plump face and bushy eyebrows. 

most importantly, i found comfort in her story. once she was able to, she could have transformed into anything. she could have looked however she wanted to look. and yet she returned to her original form- the one she was teased for and insecure about- but made stronger by the journey and confident in her beauty. 

every moment with veth was a blessing. veth being unapologetically herself, no matter how strange people thought she was. sam’s descriptions of her winter dress and face tattoos, where i could hear veth being so excited to be even prettier for herself. the mighty nein always referring to veth as strong and beautiful and brave. veth being loved just the way she looked- but more than that, being loved for being an incredible fighter, strategist, alchemist, protector, and friend.

thank you, veth. your bravery and beauty has made me a hundred times more confident in my own.

is it just me or is there no discussion of veth being canon bisexual? (or more generally, not straight?) i bring this up bc, being a fellow bi, i wanted to make veth pride month art… so i searched up mentions of veth being bi/queer (to make sure i didn’t just imagine it) and there’s like 2 posts/tweets? 

i thought it was pretty clear from talks machina c2e137 and cr c2e139 that veth was canonically attracted to yasha. are people not talking about it because they think it’s a joke? is there some casual biphobia because she’s married to a man? or am i just not looking in the right places?

Ashton insisting that F.C.G has different facial expressions and is making a specific one and F.C.G insisting he has the same face all the time is a running joke that im very fond of

did anyone else get intense chills down their spine when sam said “i can’t be in both places at the same time” - exact same wording, with the same emotional inflection as he did as veth in the plane of fire?

both instances are sam’s characters having to choose between staying with their blood family and their chosen family, their old life and their new life. both instances have the characters realizing that continuing with their new life means that they could help save the world. 

so both of them deliver this line softly, because they’re partially talking to themselves, realizing something that they already knew. veth’s is this heart-wrenching realization that she can’t be there to protect both families (”if i try to keep one family safe, i’m endangering the other”). loquatius’ is a realization that he would sacrifice his own life to be by laerryn’s side as the world ends (”i’m sorry, my lady. i love you, but i love another more”).

and in the end, both of them choose to face the danger - veth hopeful that she can return to her family, and loquatius knowing he will never be able to go back again.

exu calamity episode 4 is the single best piece of media i have ever watched in my life. i felt every human emotion possible. i think i felt emotions outside of the human spectrum. i possibly felt shrimp emotions

exu calamity is perfect. it’s basically everything i love about dimension 20 (pacing, humour, brennan in general), but also 5 hours, uncut and with a full view of the cast. plus - incredible cast & characters. i cannot wait for brennan and lou to break my heart with their roleplaying à la kingston & liz, amethar & caramelinda, fabian & his dad........

“i wanted you to talk me into it, i want to be with you......... all” is so crazy i actually go a little feral just listening to it. the yearning. the nuance. the quickly remedied slip-up. the emotion contained in that pause and in the silence that followed. ALL OF IT

was nervous about drawing fresh cut grass for (hopefully) the next few years... but i put my pen to the screen and they immediately appeared! he is so instinctively friend-shaped and easy to love ☀️

Ashton, when they first met: So like, what's your pronoun situation? Do robots even do gender.

F.C.G.: Not really! Why, do you think I should try it? Ashton: Nah, it's pretty bullshit. I like going by He/They though.

F.C.G.: Well, shucks, I guess I'll just go with that too, then! We can match :)
