I find it fascinating how rarely “Ginny slander” is discussed or used as an attack against Drarry fans when “Lily slander” and accusations of misogyny are so commonly tossed at Jegulus fans just for existing. Even though quite often Ginny is cheated on, set aside, or villainized in Drarry fics.

It’s almost like Hinny fans aren’t threatened by Drarry because their favourite redhead has an actual personality and life outside of her canon relationship. Perhaps diehard Jily stans shouldn’t project their frustrations at JKR’s misogynistic portrayal of Lily as a flat, one-dimensional character whose sole existence is a plot device for male characters on Jegulus fans.

Tbh I feel like people mix up movie and book Snape a lot, while the movie Snape was nicer and not a total bitch, the book one is a man whore, a bully, a bitch and a dick.

And I hateeee that people can't see it just bc they find the actor of Snape "hot" or feel bad for him cuz he got rejected by Lily and died like sybau people get rejected everyday and you don't bully the child of the women you love nor any other children as their TEACHER.

I'm glad lily rejected him, my girl saw a red flag that cannot be fixed and ran.

Repeat after me: Lily never rejected Snape, he never confessed his romantic feelings to her, if he had any. What Lily did was cutting off their friendship. The reason Snape reacts to Harry the way he does has nothing to do with Lily – it has everything to do with James and the trauma Snape has from James. You'd know that if you had read the books. You'd also know that Snape has a lot of other complicated expieriences people can sympathise with, if they posess the ability – the ones who root for book canon so much surely would remember those.

If Lily was so observant on red flags, she might've thought about not dating James “Go out with me, and I’ll never lay a wand on old Snivelly again” Potter. A certified redflag man. Peak toxic masculinity.

Do some people mix up book! and movie! Snape? Sure. Just as with every other HP character. But you guys get hate not because of that, but because you have absolutely insane takes, no idea what had happened in the books for the most part, and live in your own world as separate from canon as one may imagine, while managing to victimblame your faves' victim and pinkwash their behaviour.

I'd always stand by the fact that the only reason people think movie!Snape is "nicer" is lack or evaluative vocabulary on the screen. Movie Snape is CALMER, that's undeniable, he's more controlled. But he is not, by any means, NICER. He was physically violent towards children! If it was described in the books – Snape hitting children – everyone would lose their shit, but since people don't have "what's wrong and what's right" chewed for them and put carefully in their mouths by the narrative while watching a movie – they overlook that, all while chanting about book Snape making mean comments, since it's explicitly told how "nasty" and "unpleasant" it was. Not to say that movies don't have half of the good things Snape did mentioned as well...

I do agree w some of these, am not hating on shape fans I'm just hating when they literally defend all the bad things he does. I like Snape bc he IS MEAN like, but some people are like nuuuu Snape is just hurt😓 like honey no this man is MEAN and I think that's what's cool about that, I'm not a fan tho just find him realistic and tbh I don't think getting into a rivalry and getting trauma from it is an excuse for bullying kids in his 30s to the point a kid's worse fear was him. It shouldn't be like that, if he cares so much about getting bullied then he shouldn't do that himself. Every time someone uses "Snape was Neville's worst fear!!!!!" to prove that he was somehow especially out of the ordinary, the angel loses it's wing. The boggart scene exists to show the contrast between Harry's classmates silly, childich fears, and Harry's serious one. I won't write why is reading that comic relief as a proof of Snape abusing Neville is not based on the text, but I'll put some links with the posts on the matter here: 1, 2, 3, 4.

And yes, traumatised people are going to have unadaptive emotional reactions. Snape is mean. He is also hurt. That's not an exuse, that's an explanation. "If he cares so much about getting bullied than he shouldn't do that himself" is a rather naïve, utopian view on human psyche. People who don't have space, resourses and mechanisms to heal their traumas; people who aren't even able to move physically from triggering spaces and people; people whose traumatic expieriences were never acknowledged; people who don't have room to express their resentment towards the abuser whom everyone glorifies; people who were never taught emotional management and grew up without adult guidance; people who are under extreme stress; people who never worked with a mental health professional or at least received support from loved ones, aren't going to heal. They are going to be dysfunctional and inconvenient for those around them. And that's important to acknowledge, because we can't expect that kind of magic from irl victims too, and therefore it's our duty as a society to provide them with means for reintegration and with systematic suppost. Basically: this and this and this. That is "finding Snape realistic".

Not to say that Snape never undressed someone without their consent, or tried to feed them to the werewolf, and that's "a bit" a different kind of bullying, no? Snape bullied people in a way Trelawney or Hagrid did. That's not good, of course it would be better if he didn't, but that not anything standing out in the social context Snape existed within. Voldemort classified the similar act to James' one as a "muggle torture".

But also, everything you've said in the reblog isn't very connected to the OP?... I reacted to what you wrote, which was not canon compliant despite complaining about lack of canon compliancy among Snape fans; suggested that Snape fans can't hate on marauders fandom unless they mistake movie Snape for book Snape and find him "hot"; stated that movie Snape was nicer, which is a very interesting definition of "nice" indeed; and dismissed the experiences the charachter went through as "got rejected by a girl and died", with the 1st never happening in the books, and the 2nd not influencing his behavior in any way. I understand people sometimes write not exactly what they want to convey, that happens, but my reblog was not about you liking or disliking Snape, it was about you getting some things factually wrong.

And yeah you're right of the trauma thing I was in a car when I replied so I didn't have much detail butt I still stand by how he should not have did the things he did but it happened.

Now now let me explain my view on Snape properly, so he's a very complicated character but he is NOT a good person. In my original post I forgot to add that or I just didn't add it for idk reason, that I hate it when people defend Snape as if he's all innocent, that's basically part of what pissed me off In the first place but obviously I didn't show that well (or at all) and I did not think it was THAT serious.

And, unrelated maybe but I'm not saying the marauders were completely nice was well, they're all a bitch and have flaws which the later I believe fixed? and that's what I like about them. Snape is also a bitch and I find him cool even tho I'm not necessarily his fan, mostly bc the fandom is kinda toxic from what I've seen and they just kept giving excuses and ik you said it's an explanation but I mostly see it as an excuse since he had plenty of time to heal and just do better yk? But he didn't make an effort.

Usually I stay with fan fics and stay away from canon bc that's less pain and I've read fics where Snape is nice and shit and I live for those buttt on the original post I was talking about canon BECAUSE the comments were all about canon, ik you can't see those comments but you can imagine (if this topic is also unrelated then don't mind it I'm just explaining)

Marauders never changed, never had their flaws "fixed", or had a redemption arc, unlike Snape. None of them were held accountable for what they did or had to acknowledge how wrong they were. And saying that Snape had "plenty of time to heal", like one doesn't need resources and support and at least physically move from the place of said abuse happening for that, and it just happens automatically with time, is not connected to objective reality. People do not work like that. As it was said in one of the linked posts, Snape had to put a lot of effort to turn out the way he was and not worse. Denying it is just denying the effect trauma, dysfunctional upbringing and systematic opression has on people.

I mean we never knew if they actually changed since we they didn't have much screen time but I do know Sirius didn't change much, peter? Fuckkkk no. James? Died at 21 we'll never know where his moral laid, Remus? He was probably the sane of them all and he did try befriending Snape. I do think Snape had time, maybe not people since we don't know it but if someone tried to help he definitely didn't take the offer and yeah maybe he denied it, but that stillll don't make him a good person, he wasn't evil but he wasn't good either, tbh I don't think none of them are
