⊗ for a completely random headcanon

     Family headcanon time! Again!     Johnathan was a high ranking, but retired, member of the Queens Army. He was a tactician, and so played childlike war-games with Jan and Luke. He went as far as to take out old maps and outline scenarios with them. As they got older, the games became more discussion on possibilities as well as covering all their bases in any situation. I won’t speak for whether or not Luke lost interest in this, but Jan did not. Till the day they left the Manor, he was enthralled with coming up with such scenarios. I think this aided in his attack on Hellsing Manor, as they swept in with force and speed to do away with Hellsing’s defenses quickly. I believe the armor they had, both the protective properties and the ‘decoration’ was Jans doing. Again, it assuaged his feeling of powerlessness to control such an army and to perform in such scenarios in real life.

I really wish there could be a situation where I can actually show how intelligent Jan is and how compassionate he is in his on sociopathic, twisted way.

Also, on a more specific note (and do forgive me if this has been already detailed in a previous post), do you think he was a vampire before joining Millennium? If not, why did he get involved with them?

   Ooooh….This is something that I’ve been mulling over for some time. There are a lot of theories on the Millennium Vampires, and as we’ve seen they tend to have the trademark gold eyes as artificial vampires and I do think Jan is referred to as a ‘FREAK’ artificial Vampire. So, for my personal headcanon, he was not a Vampire previous to his involvement in Millennium.     The second part is a bit more difficult. I’m not quite sure, as of yet. Part of it was the promise of power, anarchy, the capability of just being able to fuck up as much as he could as much as he wanted, as well as control over a Ghoul Army to do so that appealed. I firmly believe that his attack on Hellsing was not the first time he lead these Ghouls to mass destruction. It was too organized for it to be a first time thing, though I have my own personal headcanons for this.     So, I’m still trying to come up with the ‘why’ of being part of Millennium. I think maybe the idea of aiding in the destruction of London had to do with it as well as the aspect of taking out his deeply seated rage at the upper class. I know he wasn’t loyal to Millennium, he has no reason to be loyal to anyone but his own gains. So it confuses me as to why, like other operatives, he would be so willing to give his life to play a pawn…….

     While Jan loves travel, he's not much of a sightseer. Everything about upscale travel reminds him of his life in the Valentine manor, and conversely how many people have so little in their lives in comparison. If he goes anywhere, though Luke prefers the high scale hotels, Jan stays out of it as much as possible and seeks comfort in the slums of whatever town they're in.

☾ for a sleeping headcanon

     While still human, Jan tended to overheat a lot while sleeping and so he slept with only sheets and boxers, and with windows open. Now, even though temperature doesn't affect him as much anymore, he still sleeps the same way out of familiarity. He does tend to prefer sleeping alone, as he does hog covers and bed, as well as the frightening possibility of cuddling. Something Jan is not exactly comfortable with.

☮ for a self headcanon

     I'm not sure what 'self headcanon' meme means, but I'll do appearance : D     Being used to the clean dress of richer folk, and because of his mothers meticulous cleanliness herself, he prefers to keep himself immaculate. Both hygienically and in dress. To him, it's a little bit of his mother he can keep with him at all times, an homage to all her hard work. He didn't want her death and life to be in vain if he hadn't kept himself up the way she had. He will always clean up a spill or a drip immediately, the only exception being blood.     He chooses gold as his piercings due to their shine and cleaner appearance.

Of Valentinean Heritage: 

Jan (pronounced Yann or Yaan) is a variant of John in Catalan, Czech, Dutch, Scandinavian, Cornish, Devon dialect, German, Afrikaans, Northern Germanic and Western Slavic Languages.

Jan was named for his father, Johnathan, in the Germanic variation of the name John. His father cared deeply from him and was extremely proud to be his father as his love lied with Alejandra.  Jan is also part of the name Alejandra, and so his name encompasses aspects of both of his parents, people who worked hard to love and care for him. He does have a bit of bitterness towards his father for allowing his wife to kick the two out, resulting in Alejandra's death, but not as much hate as he has for the woman of the house herself.

for a mother headcanon

   As outlined in this headcanon, Jan Valentine had a step mother and his biological mother.   His step mother was abusive and hateful, as he was the illegitimate child of her husband with a maid. She would often behave kindly towards Jan in front of Johnathan, because the man of the household cared for Jan as seen by his allowing the mother and Jan to live in the household still, but cruel and even abusive in private. Her abuse was mostly mental and verbal, but it was extremely harmful. Eventually she kicked Jan and his biological mother out of the home, forcing them to fend for themselves.

    As for his biological mother, Alejandra, he had a profound love and respect for her. She came from roots of poverty, but had always made her way in the world by working as hard as she could. For many, many years she worked for Johnathan Valentine as a nanny and a maid, the two happened to fall in love.    Once Alejandra and Jan were forced into the streets, she quickly had to find ways to support them both. After failing to find a regular job, she fell back into prostitution out of desperation. Jan knew what she did, and that she did it so he could have clothing and food. Being dropped into the streets from Manor life was an extreme shock to him, and he valued greatly the work she did for him. As a result, her death rocked him harder than anything else in his life ever would. 

Bonus: As result of this, the women he respects more are actually prostitutes and street workers. Many of the ones he's seen have worked hard to survive, and the reason for his threatening Integra with rape was because of his hatred for women whom he feels don't work for a damn thing in their life resulting in selfish cruel behavior. We know that is untrue for Integra, but Jan is never one for making much sense whatsoever.
