Hiatus

((I’ve sent a message to the masterlist for Sheena and Envy to be put on Hiatus. Currently, I am overloaded on work and I noticed that my replies have been painfully slow. Because of that, it’s just best to take a hiatus instead of panicking over being slow about replies. It’ll be about two weeks, tops.

For those I am threading with, when I return, I will make a post about those I have replied to and tag them. Just in case if anyone wants to pick up where it was left off, start anew, or just give me the proverbial middle finger. I’m open to it all. :D))

'Kissed'

20. Pulse Point

Envy didn’t look at all fazed with the cyborg on top of him. And no, not in the way most people assumed. The man tackled him after Envy tried to set fire to a nearby restaurant (for sheer experiment sake, of course). Then they ‘tussled’ and Envy ended up with a few cuts that weren’t going to be easily healed with his limited regeneration and he left behind a few bruises on Keisuke.

And now he was pinned to the ground, unable to throw the man off of him like he’d have been able to in the past. Now all he could do was grin up at the man and act as though this wasn’t a downside for him.

“What are you going to do now, huh? Punch me until I’m a just a pile of goo on the pavement? Bring me into the authorities? Sit there and stare? Come on, you know you want to hurt me. The way your breathing, the scowl, you hate me.” Envy sneered, awaiting the other’s fist to make contact with his face.

Now, what he wasn’t expecting was the man to press his mouth to where his pulse would have been, if he actually had a heart. He stiffened, feeling the warmth against his neck and actually, for once, confused. Like so many other times he experienced intimate contact from another–mainly when he was in another shape–he felt repulsed and intrigued at the same time.

“What the Hell are you doing?!” He glared at the man when he pulled back and then understood what he probably just discovered. He smirked, relaxing. “You know, if you wanted to find out if I wasn’t human, you could have just asked. Or, you know, use your finger. Interesting method, though.”

5. Lips

Envy leaned in, his lips curled back in a mocking grin and his fingers were around the young man’s throat. The grip wasn’t tight, it was meant to be only a threat. A hovering sensation to remind him how easily Envy could crush his windpipe with a simple squeeze.

“Boy, I think you’ve forgotten your place. What gave you the idea that I’d just take your insults without getting a little payback?” Envy ran his forefinger back and forth against the flesh of the young man’s neck.

His forehead was almost touching the other’s, having come so close. His expression was expectant. “Now are you going to struggle or take your punishment willingly? ‘Cause there’s nothing you can do that will make me let you g-”

Warm lips were suddenly thrust against Envy’s and his amethyst eyes widened. His grip loosened on the young man’s neck and he stepped back, breaking contact. He wrinkled his nose and brought a hand up to his mouth and scowled.

“What the Hell was tha-?!” He pauses, noticing his ‘prey’ was now hightailing it out of there. “Aw dammit.” Guess he could do something to make him let him go.

Do they buy into the “happily ever after” ideal? What’s their standard?

Not at all. Happily ever after was created by human beings so they’d therefore have hope. And there’s no such thing in the end. To Envy, his standard for success is ‘did you sruvive?” Yes, then you are good. Though he’ll take the perk of ruining somebody’s life so he’ll feel better about himself.

How do they handle contact? Is their personal bubble big?

When undercover, Envy has no personal bubble. He’s comfortable with touchy-feeliness because it will lead to him getting the job done (while also fulfilling that subconscious desire to experience closeness and friendship with another living being. He won’t admit that any time soon).

When in his normal form, he’s much less comfortable. While un-disguises, he’s open; vulnerable. If he’s going to be close to someone, it has to be his decision. He wants to make someone else uncomfortable, not vice versa.

What bad habits do they have? Is there something they would be ashamed of?

Killing small children? Starting a war? Killing beloved characters?

Envy tends to not listen when he knows he won’t get his way. This happened with Pride a lot, since he was the de facto ‘leader’ and when Envy disliked his plans, he’d tune him out. He also can’t keep his mouth shut and will gloat about his past misdeeds, even if it may not be too his best interest (a la gloating about murdering Hughes to his best friend WHO WAS ABLE TO KILL A HOMUNCULUS). That particular habit of his is something he’s ashamed of, since it led to his defeat. He’s more careful about opening his mouth now.

Also has a tendency to eat with his mouth open. Disgusting. Not ashamed.

Are they connected to the people? How much do they reach out to others?

Connected to human people, Envy is not in the least (fellow homunculi, yes). He distances himself emotionally from them, at the risk he may develop empathy toward them. Funnily enough, this empathy is one of the things he envies most about humans. And ‘reaching out’ to someone... He reached out to some of his siblings, like Lust and once--a looooong time ago, when he didn’t see him as a douchebag--Greed. But those were considered moments of weakness now and he suppresses them.

Is this character skilled with a weapon? What’s their opinion of violence?

He is skilled with guns (particularly the pistol) and knives (can throw them at a teeny tiny target easily). Mainly he prefers to use his own hands.

And he loves violence. Relishes it. Go death.

How often do they feel doubt? What topics are they defensive about?

More often then Envy will admit. He never truly doubted his Father’s goal, though he doubted his methods. What Envy truly doubts is whether he is truly superior to human beings and if his views towards them are wrong. He has to convince himself constantly that they are worthless, immoral, inferior pieces of shit. But then he’s struck with the knowledge that they possess several things he doesn’t and that he desires to experience (like friendship, empathy, love, and emotional intimacy).

These topics are, therefore, the most defensive he is about and he will reject any attempts someone makes to have him accept his own envy.

“Mm-hmm, right this way~”

Dahlia decided to play nice, and simply started walking to the ice cream shop. There were a lot of them in the city–including a new one opened by one of its own citizens–but this was just an ordinary dessert store, run by some NPC couple.

She didn’t bother asking Envy for his preferences, but took a look at the menu before walking right up and nodding to the owner.

“Ah…good afternoon. I’ll take that one, please, in a cone.”

The homunculus followed the redhead from behind, looking the perfect example of someone who wasn’t there by their free will. Outwardly, at least. He was interested in coming for the sake of playing with this woman. There was this underlying feeling, though, that she saw him as a disposable form of entertainment in the same exact way.

One hand on his hip and the other swinging casually at his side, Envy glared looked around him in this tiny, ‘homey’ dessert shop. Seeing a store dedicated entirely to sweet desserts reminded him of the days when he was newly born--such a long time ago--and ancient humans were lucky enough to harvest a grain of sugar once a year. Now, there was a plethora of sweet things to stuff their doughy faces with.

Of course, Envy would use something as harmless as a dessert shop to feel disdain towards the human species.

He remained silent as the woman spoke to the man behind the counter. His expression said it all, though.

Was all that... necessary? Even if she was ordering for both of them, that was a lot of ice cream.

He glanced up from the full tray to the woman’s face when she faced him, brow raised. “Hope you didn’t forget to order something for me,” he commented, snidely and turned from her to walk towards a table near the window. He could have chosen one in dark, cramped corner, but sitting in a small-space with this woman for a long period of time may drive him insane.

“I’d be interested in seeing you try,” he said. The three allotted seconds passed by and he refused to let go. Even after all the battle’s he’d been through, he had yet to take any damage that couldn’t be repaired or healed given time. Those were really the only times he’d been grateful for his body being the way it was. He was sure he could take anything this one tried.

The threat and the way the other had said it were certainly not unfamiliar. Keisuke could give him a point for creativity, though. G.O.D. certainly put more of their creativity into the schemes, rather than threats. They only vowed to kill or defeat him and often they could hardly follow through.

He had to wonder if this guy was strong enough to make the threat more than that. The kaizorg didn’t want to go beyond this, but if he needed to, he could defend himself. Keisuke did hope it was all talk, though. Fighting over something as insignificant as this seemed pointless.

He supposed he’d find out soon, wouldn’t he?

Stupid. This human was an absolute idiot. His insolence caused Envy’s teeth to grind against each other. Maybe he could excuse the stupid human for his actions; what Envy is cannot be obvious by just looking at him. But the homunculus’s fury wasn’t sated by this excuse in the least.

Now, understanding the situation, killing the imbecile may cause a scene in this public space and the so-called scientists may disapprove. Yet maybe killing off one of their guinea pigs, showing them that he wasn’t planning on ‘playing nice,’ might send them a message. He wasn’t going to be trapped in this city forever and was perfectly willing to resort to slaughter.

“So you have a death wish,” Envy noted, and the fingers of the trapped hand clenched and flexed. “Then allow me to help you with that.”

With his wrist still in the other man’s hand, Envy stood up, grabbed the back of the chair with his free hand, and swung it like it only weighed the same as a roll of paper. The movement barely took a second. He aimed for the side of the man’s head, going for either a concussion or a straight hit to the temple with the metal chair.

“Ice cream,” Dahlia repeated patiently. “The sunlight’s rather strong today, I think.” she fanned herself idly with one hand.

“It’s not expensive, so we could buy as much as we’d like. I was thinking four cones to start.”

“That way, we can each eat one and still have plenty left over to stick into people’s faces.” Or each others’, if there was no one else around. Either way, they’d both be satisfied with the end results.

Charm to her was like water from a running stream–it flowed endlessly, and she splashed it about constantly without much thought. Spending money, on the other hand–she only reserved that for two types of people: those she liked, and those she hated.

Curious enough, she couldn’t decide which one fit Princess Palm Tree. Maybe she’d figure things out after getting him with a cone to the nose…

“It’s up to you, though! I’m still buying mine either way~”

Envy listened, his confusion far from lessening at her explanation. Wasn’t she insulting every minuscule detail about him the last few minutes? Not like she could poison him--and if she did, it wouldn’t work due to his unique physiology--but the sudden change in demeanor was off-putting.

Wait a... when has he ever been off-putted? He couldn’t allow this human female put him on edge. If she was trying to play him in some way, he wouldn’t allow it. She was playing a game and he’d figure out her bluffs. Spending more time with her would help him learn all the more.

Not like he actually needed the ice cream, though-especially since he didn’t need to eat. it was a purely pleasurable activity for a homunculus (though Gluttony always saw it as a necessity). The occasional rare steak always satisfied his tastes. He only had ice cream once before, when disguised as a small child.

It was okay.

“Fine, but I’m not paying for anything..” Envy placed his hands on his hips, acting like he just did her a favor by agreeing. He didn’t have any money, anyway... she looked well-off enough to pay for him. “Let’s go to wherever the Hell it is.”

“So fickle,” Dahlia tsked with a frown. “Good looks won’t get you far without the charm to back it up.”

What a capricious person. Changing moods on a whim, and androgynous enough to be mistaken for either gender. Though at the moment they were behaving exceptionally like a spoiled little princess.

“You won’t let me fix your hair, and you insult me to my face,” she said merrily. “Why, I’d think you actually hated me if you weren’t trying so hard to stick around.”

She picked up her parasol and, once again, shaded her face beneath the canopy. “My hands aren’t sweaty but—it looks like you’re rather full of hot air.”

“If you want to cool down, I know an ice cream shop around the corner.”

“It can be my treat.”

Envy’s sneer was going to become a permanent fixture on his face if he hung around this woman much longer. “I only spend charm when I feel like it. And you haven’t made a good case for me to do so.”

The girl was still keeping up, though. The verbal gunfight between them hadn’t lost its appeal and its been a while since Envy truly could be his sarcastic, vitriol self--since Lust was alive, in fact. This woman even kind of reminded of his sister...

Too bad she was not a homunculus, or he could have actually liked her a teensy tiny bit.

The following ‘hot air’ comment didn’t seem to faze him in the slightest; mainly due to the fact she sprang the sudden offer for ice cream on him seconds afterward.

“Excuse me?” Her flouncing off in disgust or him decapitating her was the way he saw this going, but not ice cream. Was this a trick? His expression obviously showed he believed it to be so.

Limp fingers curled into tightened fists. Ones that would go unused, but ones that would show her frustration towards the being speaking to her. Hearing that he had taken on her form before was enough to make her blood run cold, and it was almost enough for any hatred she’d choked down before to swallow her whole. He had used her to his advantage? He had used her to hurt the friends she held so dear in her heart? It was abhorrent, atrocious, absolutely and utterly disgusting.

The skin of her knuckles pulled taut, and took on a ghostly shade of white as they stretched over bone. Her teeth clenched so tightly that her jaw was already screaming in protest. Now she was looking at him directly. He was standing right in front of her, staring down at her as if she were nothing compared to him. And in a way, his haughtiness was warranted. She didn’t have his abilities, nor did she have his will to hurt others, but right now, she had her anger.

“How dare you?”

She met his violet stare with her own blue one head on, and even though her voice was small she felt it ready to explode. The only other time she had ever felt this much hatred surge through her all at once was she’d been confronted by Scar; when she had discovered it had been him that had murdered her parents when they had only been trying to help him.

“How dare you take my shape to hurt my friends? Just who the hell do you think you are?!”

He hit a weak spot, apparently. His head tilted to the side like a cat’s when it observes, taking in the sight before him. Her tightened fists, whitened skin, and suppressed ‘righteous’ fury. Her supposedly ‘pure’ nature succumbing to hatred was beautiful.

Homunculi were not experienced in such a concept, of course--their Father wanted them focus on other things--but Envy was able to see the beauty of fury in the blonde’s eyes. Hatred always fascinated Envy, as he was filled with it.

But Winry’s hatred was different. It was fueled by the ‘love’ of her friends, not disgust. Envy wanted couldn’t understand it. Such emotions were apparently beyond the ability of his hardened Stone.

“Who the Hell do I think I am? I. Am. A. Homunculus.” His words were punctuated by him leaning closer each time and his grin widening. “And I do what I wish. I’m not constrained by sympathy or empathy like you humans. If taking your form meant tearing your friends a part was easier, then so be it. Honor is for the self-righteous and idiots.”

His hand snaked forward to grab her chin. “Maybe if you throw away some of those pesky limitations like ‘mercy,’ those who've hurt you can’t make you suffer anymore.”
