It's been a tough day, and there are so many emotions going on. There are people rejoicing and people grieving what has happened. Can I be honest, I'm grieving too, because there are so many people who are currently in fear for what the future holds for them, people who have seen the worst of what this country has to offer and realise that we can't turn back from that. Whether you supported one party or another, realise that some people have felt comfortable being racist, sexist and xenophobic and the communities that experienced those traumas are not feeling peace right now. As a believer of Christ, I am called to be like Christ everywhere I go, to be kind, to love as Christ loved, to be light in darkness, and honestly sometimes I struggle with not letting my fears overtake me and remembering that the God I serve is not one of chaos, but one of peace and where I go I will be peace. But don't think I won't call you out if what you say and do is foolish, racist, sexist, wilful ignorance is not cute and shouldn't be something you're okay with.
At the age of almost 24, it has taken a lot of work on God's part to get me to the place where I don't sit in front of my mirror picking apart things I don't like about myself. So imagine my irritation when someone said to me "I'm glad you're not wearing big hair, you're getting older and Nigerian boys don't want to marry girls with big hair." I had to remind myself that my mama raised me to respect my elders 🙄 It's been a month and I'm still angry. 1. I wouldn't marry someone who couldn't accept me, big hair and all. I'm not desperate for a husband and if the Lord has not ordained me to have one, it will be well. My choices are for me, not to impress some man. 2. I cannot wait until minding your own business is as common as breathing. 3. It's my head, if I want my hair weaved up or natural, big or calm, it's my decision and I'm not asking for your approval 4. I'm glad that I'm now at a place where I don't let those statements affect my sense of self, but there are people who are still learning to love themselves and would be negatively impacted by those kinds of statements, so watch what you say to people. Anyways here's a picture with my big hair, minding my own business and excelling because of that ✌🏿️ #mindyourownbusiness #bighairdontcare
