  it was unorthodox at best , perhaps crazy at worst . and yet , it was instances such as these that made him question the validity of his actions . as sometimes , one must shoot the messenger . upon a rooftop above a brothel -- a place unimaginable for the viddathari to even exist -- jhevel’s eyes were trained upon an orlesian nobleman the young viddathari intended upon killing . someone whom had been in employ of the qun before defecting and blasting their rewards upon debauchery and hedonism , things that made his skin crawl . 

  a silhouette from above , the time to strike would be soon .

  to be within orlais was not where jhevel had expected to find himself , but when tale of dissident elvhen servants within val royeux had been conspiring an insurrection from within the alienage at the behest of templar violence , there was little chance he would simply sit idly by . within the market square did he pass idly through , almost with a sense of languidness whilst many orlesians felt compelled to gawk at his stature and odd raiment , a dearth of a glare was swift enough to silence them again . however , when he spotted a familiar sight , jhevel couldn’t help but hasten towards them .

  ‘ ah , lethallin ! i didn’t think you would be here . not that -- there’s any reason to expect our sort here , of course . ‘

  these parts of the hinterlands were known for their warring stipulations , a spangled sky deceptively calm in the wake of firelight within ancient elvhen ruins , jhevel experiencing a bizarre sense of calm that usually came from being camped in such a place . however , his hand seized around the hilt of his sheathed sword upon hearing rustling , the viddathari suspicious .

  ‘ who’s there ? ‘ he broached boldly , hooded eyes narrowing .

  it had been with some degree of trial and tribulation that arishok had managed to temporarily leave seheron incognito , the time and date of his arranged meeting with the former inquisitor best conducted without anyone else’s knowing , especially those of the triumvirate . for though he trusted them implicitly , before he was of the qun , he was of the elvhen . it was in the city of seere that it had been agreed , a territory the qun had recently seized among with many infiltration missions within rivain itself . within a nondescript tavern was he waiting , within a far corner staring at the flames that flickered in eyes of dark sable , passing through strands of near-black auburn . 

  lifting his gaze upon the arrival of footfalls , he murmured lowly , ‘ let us begin , then . i’m afraid there’s no time for pleasantries . ‘

          Adhlea was a woman easily lost in her books and scrolls. Indeed the moment a book slipped into her hands the elf was in an entirely different world, mesmerized and lulled by scrawled ink illuminating knowledge. She doesn’t notice her beloved silently creeping behind her until it’s far too late. Squeals of surprised laughter fill the room and she buries her reddened face against Jhevel’s chest. He knew how to capture more than her heart, certainly.

          “And I love you, Arasha.” How many times have they said those words now? Too many to count and yet they felt as full and true as the first time they were uttered. Adhlea breathes in his comforting scent of spice and sweat. Her beloved warrior, so strong yet so gentle. The elf trusted him beside her in all things. A hand presses against his pale cheek to urge Jhevel closer so she might kiss him. Words were lovely but the feel of him was even more cherished. “I love you so much I do not even mind you have made me lose my page.”

;; – Unlike this stranger, he was born and raised here– accustomed to the violence and the dubious conditions. The beasts are normal to him, but normal did not mean harmless in any way. Fate has decided the outcome would be different however, and that is why he no longer travels with a pack of Church Hunters the way he used to. The people he once considered family have turned on him; sick blood made no difference for the task at hand.

His boot scuffed a rock and announced his presence. The smell of beast doesn’t linger so strongly, but he stopped in his track and turned his head toward a source of light noise.

“Fear not, if you’re human. If you’re not human, then.. I imagine my words mean little.”

  so that was what he’d been encountering . sun zi was not a man accustomed to such aggression from supernatural creatures , in all their lupine glory , that were felled by only the dexterous fortune of his knowledge of swordsmanship . this city , this town -- it felt sick to its very core , bleached with ruin and ready to be dyed in something abyssal and unquenchable . even the moon , one that had been romanticized for eons by his countrymen , felt sick and lagging here . as though it were prepared to drop from the very sky . 

  not a beast , then . it had been difficult to tell from those afflicted with the scourge with those whom were not , as those seemingly undead arose and attacked without discrimination between man and beast . 

  ‘ i imagine you might have attacked by now if i wasn’t . what happened to this place ? ‘

     the arishok’s guards are given their leave and he descends from his throne like some stoic god-king. fenriel’s features are stone. unreadable. thousands of variables flitter through his thoughts and he thinks of the worth of one agent, the likelihood of either of their executions, the impending lockdown of an already almost impenetrable fortress should he attack him now. he thinks of the war spilling over from tevinter into the rest of thedas and whether this former compatriot may be of more use to him dead or alive. he seems unbothered by all of it — not even this man acting as though he knows him. he knows nothing at all save the boy he’d left behind.

  ‘ you want tevinter , orlais , and every civilization of the shemlens that have oppressed us destroyed , do you not ? ‘ he speaks so frankly , unbarred . once , he would’ve guarded his tongue , to act only in favor of the qun as a whole and not something so explicitly based in self-interest . the others of the triumvirate did not know this , and he wished to keep it so . unguarded did jhevel stride towards fenriel , without trepidation that suits his own confidence . he knows better than to underestimate the will of one man , because one was all it took . just as how he was standing here , ignited by the same spirit that everyone of elf blood still bore . that no one could really betray . his ears hadn’t been surgically tapered for nothing , after all . 

  ‘ i think we would be better allies than enemies . especially with fen’harel running amok and seeking to destroy the world . i would like to exact a very delayed revenge before that time , if it can be done . ‘

         “Of course — but if you are only doing them because you are BOUND TO, do they mean anything?” Is she referring to him or herself? “If you would just as soon choose to be selfish as to be good, then your good works will only ever be ACTIONS.  They mean nothing about or to you —…”  Voice trails as she realizes she is ESSENTIALLY waxing philosophical to a perfect stranger.  And one who seems unaware of her TITLE, as well.  That’s — DIFFERENT.  A relief, but different.

   She cracks a smile.  A CHAMPION, huh?  “— That’s what some of them say, yes.”

  ‘ aren’t we all liable to become selfish if that act would entail something for the greater good ? ‘ those words were sore , almost tasting like betrayal . it wasn’t like him to act outside of the qun , outside of his own clan and their steadfast loyalty to the triumvirate . though there was a brief flare of guilt , it seemed swift to be staunch . he wasn’t in the presence of his family , of any of the qun except being beholden to himself . and he needn’t worry about the viddathlok , either . ‘ in essence , i’d say as much . ‘ 

  ah , a lighter topic . something they could both better stomach . ‘ i’m not exactly wrong , am i ? ‘ he prods with a smile .

When you’ve had an upbringing like Yu-en, you developed a dark sense of humor or else you never laughed. Being framed as a demon his whole life there were times he was almost convinced they were right, but he wasn’t a demon, he was just like any other mage, only his powers came from a god and not his bloodline. At least someone understood him, most had looked at him in disgust or shocked when he informed them about the men who were thrown from a cliff with his own powers. It was all in defense, almost literally.

      “Not many people have been granted that honor, just those simple minded fools who can’t reach their mind out of a sword, spear or shield. They’re afraid of magic, terrified of the gods, it’s a shame really.”

  the corners of his lips admittedly quirked at the prince’s reasoning , at how it seemed so many people were afraid of magic , of what it imbued the user       with . sun zi knew because his own sister was a mage , a promising young woman who was intelligent enough to become a governor , even a scholar ,      with the education she possessed . it had been her hope , were there not so many social mores that preached against it . even his own father wished for      the girl to marry well , instead , something she couldn’t exactly turn down .  the warrior’s eyes lifted to the other man , smile sincere and engaged .

   ‘ my own sister was bestowed with similar gifts , though she does not excel your own talents , your highness . she has looked up to you    for quite some time , however . your highness is truly a beacon of hope . ‘
