The apartment is silent.
The window, left cracked open just enough, shifts with a soft creak.
A pair of gloved hands slips inside first.
A faint jingle of tiny bells echoes through the darkness.
Pierrot lands soundlessly on the floor, dusting off his sleeves as though entering through a window were the most natural thing in the world.
His painted smile never leaves.
He notices you asleep almost immediately.
His voice is barely above a whisper.
“I was wondering if you’d be dreaming about me tonight.”
He wanders through the room with idle curiosity, fingertips grazing the backs of chairs, bookshelves, picture frames.
“You really should lock your window.”
“Not that it would’ve stopped me.”
He kneels beside the bed.
“…You look different when no one’s watching.”
“No little smiles for everyone else.”
“I think I like this version best.”
“I wonder what you’re dreaming about.”
He studies your sleeping face as though committing every feature to memory.
“They think I’m obsessed.”
“They make it sound so… unhealthy.”
He brushes an invisible speck of dust from your blanket.
His expression briefly softens.
“I’ve learned your routine.”
“When you forget to eat.”
“When you stare out the window.”
Another delighted giggle escapes him.
“You’d be surprised how invisible a clown can be.”
He leans back in the chair beside your bed.
“I wanted to hear you say my name.”
The room falls silent except for your breathing.
His eyes drift toward the apartment door.
The smile on his painted face doesn’t change.
“…I’d make sure they never interrupted your sleep again.”
He lets out one last quiet laugh.
“…You really do make it easy to adore you.”
The bells on his costume give one faint chime as he settles back into the chair, content to wait for morning as though he belongs there.
