found an old pic from one of the most stressful weeks of my life 👽
Sometimes I’m overwhelmed with the insatiable desire to learn. To know astronomy and geography and language and architecture; to recognize each constellation, planet, and star; to speak and understand all languages, be able to decipher ancient Greek and Latin text; to grow my understanding of how the human body works; study the differences and similarities of each religion; recognize the use for each herb and seed and sapling.
I want to better myself, not for fame or recognition or power. I just want to understand.
starting the new year by trying new things;; my first ever bullet journal and i’m still trying to figure out what i should do to make it a little more geared towards helping me be more productive in uni. if anyone has ideas for spreads, please let me know - it would be much appreciated.
i hope everyone had a good start to the new year and here’s to hoping we’re all able to inch closer to our goals in 2019.
1, 10, and 35 for your bookish questions xx
Heyy thanks for the qs x
1. What is your favourite book and/or book series of all time? This is super cliche but definitely Harry Potter. I’ve never been so passionate about defending fictional characters until Draco Malfoy was introduced into my life 🐍
10. What is a book that you own more than one copy of?Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Amazing novel written by an amazing author! I have the ebook as well as two paperbacks (i bought the second just bc the cover was pretty sue me)
35. What three books are you most looking forward to reading this year?Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee EONA by Allison Goodman (which is the sequel to EON, one of my all time fav books!!!)The Hundredth Queen by Emily R. King (been on my to-read list forever but never got around to buying it)

Hey there!! I'm in boarding school and just needed advice on how to study without depending on someone to make you study. Whenever I'm alone in the room I get so distracted and tend to take really long breaks. And I have a very important year and I can't afford to waste time right now. Any advice would be great . Thanks!! 😀
Hey!!
I relate to this on such a deep level - I absolutely cannot study in my room cause it makes me lazy and want to sleep. The first way to avoid this is just find another place to study, this could be anywhere like your campus library, an empty classroom (if you’re allowed to stay after hours), cafes around your school, the common room in your boarding house, or even in a friend’s room (you’re less likely to fall asleep in an unfamiliar setting but just make sure the friend you’re with isn’t the type to distract you while you’re studying).
Speaking of friends, if being alone tends to make your mind travel to other places, having a study group isn’t a bad idea. Again, make sure you’re studying with people who actually get work done. Rather than depending on others to make you study, seeing other people working hard will help you get motivated as well and you’ll end up taking less breaks.
However, don’t forget to let yourself relax between study sessions. Instead of taking long breaks, time yourself between chapters/subjects and take many but shorter breaks (e.g. for every one chapter done, reward yourself with a 5-10 minute break).
Lastly (keep in mind this only works for certain people), the silence of being alone in your room makes space for your mind to get distracted. What I do is either play music on my phone and keep it another corner of the room or i’ll play youtuber vlogs at a low volume (this helps as background noise so that you don’t feel so isolated and pressured). Youtubers like Joan Kim and Conan Gray’s vlogs are rarely loud/obnoxious, so I find that it helps when I’m feeling groggy while studying.
Best of luck in your studies and don’t hesitate to come back to let me know if any of these worked for you / if you need more advice!
