Tuesday July 23, 2019 - TUSK NYC 

Today we headed to TUSK New York. Tusk NYC was founded in 1993 and inspired by the owners Native Indian Roots. They are based in New York City, however all their factories hit right back to their Indian Roots as they are based in Mumbai! They used to be sold in Nordstrom and through Victorias Secret but that was a while ago.  TUSK prides themselves and putting out quality products that are sustainably made by workers who are treated fairly and paid well. We learned that they offer an ambassador program to earn some extra cash and gain some cute bags through them! When you sign up to be a brand ambassador, you will get a code and buy one item at half off to self and advertise, once you sell that you get your money back and you are able to buy more! It truly sounded like something I may be interested in due to the fact that they had cute bags!

Thursday July 18 2019 - Preface NYC Pop UP 

Thursday we headed to Preface NYC in Manhattan. Preface NYC is a pop up event for designers and buyers to come see thousands of fabrics and new innovative designs from brands across the globe. They also have a section dedicated to vintage pop up from styles coming from @scoutla and @arcadeshops!

Upon arrival we were checked in and were provided with a  free tote bag, free fabric scissors, and tape measurers which was very nice! They even had a coffee/tea station that they openly let us use! After checkin we got the chance to go around with the director of the program to every booth and learn about what they were about! After this we were able to go look on our own! My friend and I talked to the two guys from LA and learned a lot about the upcoming styles and trends that they are targeting at the moment. They also had fun drinks and snacks for our taking which was a nice bonus! The vintage clothes were my favorite thing to look at due to my love for vintage fashions! Overall, this was truly a great immersive experience where I learned a lot!

Tuesday July 16 2019 - the MET 

Tuesday we headed to the MET! The Met is the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and its one of the biggest museums in the world for art. We were able to explore on our own upon arrival so we headed to the things that interested us the most! The MET Gala’s Camp Exhibit was one of the coolest things we have ever gotten to witness. You were able to see all the coolest fashions from the red carpet right up close and it was amazing. Another aspect I enjoyed was the architecture of the inside, it is absolutely breathtaking. Overall, I would recommend the MET to anyone stopping in New York City because it is definitely a MUST.

Thursday July 11th 2019 - STOLL Knitting 

This Thursday we headed to Stoll Knitting in New York City. Stoll knitting is one of the top knitting manufacturers in the world founded in Germany over 145 years ago. All of the garments we were viewed have a tag on them that has the perfect formula to recreate the pattern by using Kent State’s own Stoll Knitting machine! How cool and innovative. 

During our tour we learned the difference between Full Fashioned vs flat knitting. Fully fashioned garments are gonna run higher in price due to the time and effort it takes compared to flat knitted garments. This tour was a very hands on tour for us which was something totally different and fun! While we were there we learned how to use a knitting machine (see photo 4). We also were able to add finishing edge to a sweater (see photo 2 and 3) which was definitely a little harder to get a hang of. Overall Stoll Knitting is a very innovative high performance company with a lot of the best technology in the industry to create beautifully knitted garments.

Tuesday, July 9 2019 - Mood Fabrics 

Tuesday we headed to Mood Fabrics in Manhattan! Founded in 1991 by Jack Sauma, mood fabrics aims to sell fabric designs as wholesale items to customers from all around. In 2002, Jack had to opportunity to go on the famous show Project Runway. This is what really brought success to his business in the industry. Mood Fabrics offers two retail stores and one online store for customers to purchase fabrics. Many cast members and previous members of Project Runway head to Mood Fabrics today for inspiration and a chance to get inspiration from the great alumni of Mood Fabrics. Tuesday July 2, 2019   - Cotton Incorporated 

Today we headed to Cotton Inc New York City. Cotton Inc was created in 1970 as a commitment to sustainability. The goal of the company was also to make up for a loss in the market due to synthetic fibers. Cotton Inc has global offices in New York City, Turkey, Greater Europe, China, Latin America, and South and East Asia. The New York City offices main focus is the fashion forecasting side. 

During our presentation we learned, Cotton Incorporated is completely non profit. Their aim as a company is to go around to different companies and designers and influence them to use cotton as a sustainable fabric. It is a common myth that cotton is the worst fabric for the industry due to the amount of water it is used. We learned that Cotton Inc actually uses recycled rain water in the production of all their cotton and everything is reused. Overall I think it is important for fashion lovers to look into the importance of using cotton in garments! Because cotton is truly the “Fabric of Our Lives.”

Tuesday June 25, 2019 - Terra Inde 

Today we headed to Terra Inde in Manhattan, New York. Terra Inde was founded in 2016 by Shilpa Bhatia. She works with different designers to bring in modern eastern asian type fashions for big events. Terra Inde offers a platform for emerging fashion designers and accessory designers. Every piece she has in the store is one of a kind and she offers one on one meetings with clients to find your perfect dress.  Ranging from prices $500-UP Terra Inde wants to make sure everyone will be able to afford something from her store for their big day or event. Thursday June 27, 2019 - HUDSON YARDS / NEIMAN MARCUS 

Thursday we headed to Hudson Yards mall to check out the mall and the first Neiman Marcus in Manhattan. Hudson Yards is the largest plot of real estate for malls in America as well. Neiman Marcus was founded in Texas in 1907. 

Neiman Marcus has 188,000 square feet of space and has 8,000 square feet of space dedicated just to shoes. This Neiman Marcus is the fifth largest store in the world and has 3 restaurants within the store and also a salon. They even have a pop up florist which was inspired by British retail stores. Be sure to check out this Neiman Marcus to see brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Balmain, YSL, and much much more! This Neiman Marcus is truly an immersive experience that no one should miss out on!

Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) Museum NYC - Thursday June 20, 2019 

The Fashion Institute of Technology is the number one fashion school in the world. FIT is an award winning museum featuring some of the rarest fashions in the world. The museum houses 50,000 garments from around the world used in exhibits and for study. Some items they have are duplicates and they have some that are in better condition than others which allows students to study the worse conditioned garments. The museum is three different levels and every six months they change the gallery of the exhibits. During our tour we got to sit in and listen from a museum director and view garments from periods starting in the 1880-1980′s. 

In the first photo you guys can see all the garments we got to carefully look at during our visit. Personally, my favorite era was probably 1880 due to the fact that I adore that victorian, vintage type fashions. I consider them dainty and elegant while holding so much history, its beautiful to me. My second favorite era is probably the 1950′s due to the shape of Dior’s classic new look. In the second photo, you will see a 1950′s Chanel classic tweed jacket/skirt combo. If you notice the buttons are not the classic CC’s because at that time Chanel wanted to showcase the fact that she is a Leo which is why she chose lions. In the third photo you will see a vintage Christian Dior 1954 Chine full ensemble. The museum has in their collection the dress, the shoes, the scarf, the headband, and the purse. During 1954, this collection retailed for $50,000. Finally you will see an authentic vintage Oscar De La Renta dress from the 1960′s. This dress was inspired by the world being obsessed with space travel at this time, this dress was very futuristic and space like. This dress also had plastic sequins finally because prior to that (1920′s) sequins were made out of cellulose which would deteriorate over time. This Oscar De La Renta dress is so old the sequins have actually started to bend over time due to aging. Overall, I recommend the FIT museum to all because you will learn some great history and see a lot of fashions.

M&S Schmalberg Custom Fabric Flowers - Tuesday June 18, 2019

Founded in 1916 by brothers Moris and Sam Schmalberg, these custom fabric flowers were made for accessories, appliqués for designer dresses, bridal flowers, home arrangements and much more. M&S Schmalberg is currently a 4th generation family business that is currently owned by Warren and Deborah brand and Adam Warren’s son. This is currently one of the last of the kind of only 10 in America for this type of business. 

Upon arrival we learned that every flower is hand-made and features spectacular quality. M&S Schmalberg has worked with top designers such as Vera Wang, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs and much much more. Clients have the option to bring their own fabric, or choose from the thousands of fabrics they have in house making it the perfect stop for any need. M&S is so successful that they have been featured in People Magazine, Vogue, New York, W, Hapars Bazaar, and WSJ.
