Bc I think about this constantly. Peter intentionally killed 12 people, and made a spectacle of it. Just to make sure nobody would suspect him of sending someone to kill his two best friends and their infant son.

And I think that he also killed Bertha jorkins? Not sure about this rn

But the point stands. He killed 12 people. And wouldn't have cared if it had been more. Just to make sure his best friend got sent to the torture prison. To really drive the point home.

i find this so interesting bc peter’s betrayal is often portrayed as evidence of his cowardice but what kind of coward goes to these lengths? what kind of coward nurses a near powerless voldemort back to full strength going so far as to murder a teenager and cut his own hand off to do it? and if he was so afraid why would he stay in the wizarding world as a rat, he could’ve just as easily gotten adopted by a nice muggle family and it’s likely no one would have ever found him. and he’s very manipulative, he has this outward persona of this anxious, exciteable boy who isn’t as good at magic as his friends that he will use to get people to take pity on him and forces people to not see him as a threat and then he comes out with things like becoming an animagus, exploding a whole street of muggles, and bringing voldemort back to power that show just how powerful of a wizard he actually is.

I have several metas about how intelligent he is.

Even in the Shrieking shack, he is emotionally manipulative and strategic.

He then begs to each person in turn, cunningly pushing on each person’s buttons. 

To Sirius (the man he framed and condemned to the human rights violation that is Azkaban), he says the following: 

“Sirius — it’s me ... it’s Peter ... your friend ... you wouldn’t ...”

The use of the phrase ‘your friend’ is interesting, because Sirius is ( rightfully) attempting to murder him. And I interpret this as Peter appealing to Sirius’s undying loyalty to those he calls Friend. 

And even in scenes with Voldemort he is strategic.

Also, he's a serial murderer and everyone seems to forget that. I hate the argument that him being the least favourite Marauder is any excuse for what he did, when he was tying Harry up for Voldy to murder and killed Cedric long after James was dead and Sirius's life was ruined.

I find the Peter & Sirius relationship highly fascinating, and even more so bc of what the fandom has made of it. Sirius trusted him, Sirius checked up on him. Lily mentions peters emotional state in her letter to Sirius as something he would care about and look to. And then the moment in the shack (im pretty sure your meta made me think about that more deeply) where he appeals to love and friendship to sirius specifically. He goes with an appeal to logic to Remus (which I hc is bc both have bonded over the analytical way they approach human relationships and how to insert yourself in them)

The most dismissive he is of Peter (before poa where he has 12 years of rage and betrayal by one of his closest friends since he was 11 to fire him up) is in swm when he tells James to stop messing around with the snitch. We have more clues to them being close, and Sirius being a good friend to Peter than the opposite, and yet I see it more often that sirius specifically is the one marauder who treats Peter the worst.

But yea, Peter is highly calculated, he thrives on power and humiliation/pain (look at his reaction in swm), even better when others take the blame. He didn't stumble over voldemort, he went there for power. He modified Bertha jorkins mind to find voldy, and I even remember the implication that he sexually assaulted her before he killed her, and then followed rats. He killed Cedric, revived voldy mostly by himself, and stayed in his service the entire time.

When voldemort spoke of his most loyal follower, it was himself he referred to (and he'd be right, bc in trelawneys prophecy she says as much) until voldemort corrects him. That's not the action of a man who got innocently pulled into it. He chose voldemort and power over and over again.

Remus is such a soup guy. He just lives his days with the power of water and dirty veggies and Sirius is very worried but doesn't have the heart to complain because he always smiles like a well-fed child while he eats his soup. This unhealthy obsession also leads people to believe he's always sick (which he is) cause even in restaurants while Sirius is eating solid food like a normal person Remus is there sipping from his bowl like Oliver Twist.

Remus Lupin sleeps a lot, he needs a full night of sleep and will still nap during the day. Sirius Black does not sleep, he sleeps maybe 4 hours a night and can’t anymore, and he takes forever to fall asleep.

So Sirius gets really really confused when he starts sleeping with Remus and realizes that he suddenly relaxes and falls asleep a lot quicker and sleeps better and for longer every night
