Does this darkness have a name? ♞
This cruelty,
—this hatred.
How did it find us?
Did it steal into our lives or did we seek it out and embrace it?
What happened to us that we now send our children into the world like we send young men to war,
— hoping for a safe return, but knowing that some will be lost along the way.
✞ When did we lose our way?
Consumed by the shadows.
Swallowed whole by the darkness.

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you The odds will betray you And I will replace you You can’t deny the prize; it may never fulfill you It longs to kill you Are you willing to die ~ ♪

Calm facades melted onto slippery pavements, a heavy monsoon rain drenching them both in seconds — It’s warm still, sticky. Oily scent of tar from fresh tarmac fills his nose. His focus is on the BMW, sitting there, rain pelting waxy onyx paint. It’s exactly as he left it. Untouched, he hopes. Spectre marches onwards moving like his feet trigger the clapping thunder in the distance. Loose strands fell over his forehead, clinging to pallid skin. Gel seeped, mixing with water droplets rolling down perched cheekbones. A scowl surfaces on troubled features. His voice raising in volume to oppose the barrage of rain, “Maybe so. They, will trace it back to the rental company … To my name. A name that is not my true identity. It is void, they will get nothing. However …” Gangly body crouched to his knees beside the vehicle upon arrival and ran his hand above a tire, then the next, then the next… He felt eyes on him. Quizzical. Vladimir whipped out his phone and typed an unsent text, flashing the screen to Valenka - ‘Get inside. Check for bugs.’ Rose to his feet and gave the parking lot a quick scan before settling himself in the driver’s seat. No one around. Only those taking refuge indoors. Pink neon lettering blared from the cafe’s entrance, bouncing off streaming water on glass windows like rivers of watercolor. Kept his head still, lulled back on a cushioned headrest — Eyes stirring to one side. "Did you…Find my cigarettes?"
Her curved frame slipped into the passenger seat, softly shutting the door behind her. Abiding by his text, she began scanning the car’s interior for any bugs. Murphy’s Law aptly applied in the foreigners’ situation. The rain started pouring the moment they stepped out on that half-empty walkway. That didn’t particularly help the situation in any way.
Exploring through the car’s glove compartment, she came across nothing. Valenka proceeded with her search, going through the registers and the sun visors. Again, there was nothing to be found. Then came the seats. This was going to be tricky. She couldn’t leave the car. Her search had to remain inconspicuous. The woman inspected the area again, reassured that nobody was looking her way. The car’s windows weren’t tinted. That would have eased the task.
She suddenly slid off the passenger chair and got on her knees. Her slender shape came in handy. Valenka’s hands ran underneath the seat’s vacant space, hunting down any signs of bugs. All of a sudden, her hand clutched something.
Shit. They really were being followed.
Her complexion grew paler. The sound of the driver’s door clicking open forced her to stumble back onto the passenger seat. The Bosnian nodded with relief. He hadn’t revealed anything, considering the bug was still her in hands. She quietly re-opened the glove compartment and gave him the requested item. Valenka turned to him and revealed the hidden bug. She didn’t dare speak - not until it was destroyed.
[[Probably won't be on much tonight. Just finished my last final and my brain has shutdown. All I crave right now is a hot bath and sleep! Yes, quite the perfect plan for the evening. :3]]
"Care to share why?"
"Co-workers."
He instantly changes the subject. "I take it you're German. What brings you here?"
"I'm losing patience."
