@violent-plant
Reblog far and wide.
I spend much of my time reassuring baby Hellenic Pagans about this:
Our gods are not wrathful. They will not be angered by small mistakes. You poured a libation wrong? Or didnāt do a ritual you intended because life got in the way? They arenāt angry with you. They will not punish you.Ā
They arenāt with you in order to take from you. They give to us unconditionally, and in return we give thanks because we are thankful. Not because we are afraid.
In my own experience, the gods will not be angered unless you act in a purposeful malicious or disrespectful way. You would really need to do something terrible for them to be angry with you.
We are human. We make mistakes. All you can do is have good intentions, and to continue learning. They love you for trying, even when you donāt do so perfectly. Try your best. Treat yourself and others with love, and youāre all set.Ā
Pigs in blue begin indiscriminate attacks against protesters, medics, and the press. The protest in Chicagoās Grant Park today was to return land to the indigenous Zhigaagoong people and remove a racist statue (I canāt remember whoās in the park)
Stop Littering Your Masks
Wearing a mask is super important during this pandemic, we should all be wearing one. And I understand that sometimes the mask you own might slip out of your pocket or purse and wind up on the floor. That is more excusable.
However, when you are just throwing your masks on the floor as if they are trash, it becomes not just a pollution issue, but it becomes potentially a biohazard.
COVID-19 is not just contagious and dangerous for older people and the immunocompromised, but it can also be caught multiple times. Yes, you can re-catch COVID-19. So placing masks on the ground puts more people in danger because you are literally spreading germs.
This isnāt even putting into perspective that these masks are often made from cheap plastic which can wind up in our oceans as microplastics. I have seen both fabric masks, as well as these single-use disosable ones just tossed on the ground.
Properly dispose of your masks in the trash, or else keep them with you until you can. Tossing them on the ground does nothing but make everything worse.
Show some love and compassion to others and follow some basic hygene and safety protocol.

Sustainability is something that is really important to me and I have learned how to make my college experience as low waste as possible. I recognize that there is definitely economic privilege needed to buy things like iPads for school and that some of these tips may not be accessible to everyone, but I hope some of these are helpful. Being sustainable isnāt about being perfectly zero waste, instead it is about reducing your environmental impact as much as possible.
Ipad:Ā I take all my school notes using Good Notes on my iPad. I know that some places donāt allow you to use technology in class but this is what I use and I find it really helpful. Iām so much more organized because I am able to keep all my notes together and with me always.
Rocketbook: If you arenāt able to use an iPad, I would definitely recommend checking out the Rocketbook notebook. It is a reusable notebook that allows you to take scans of your notes then wipe off the page.
Quizlet: I know a lot of people really love paper flashcards but quizlet is so helpful! It even has games that help you learn.
Reusable water bottle: Everyone knows this but plastic water bottles are so bad for the environment! You can reduce so much waste by carrying your own bottle.
Silicone baggies: Most of my classes are back to back but all the to-go food in the dining halls are wrapped in tons of plastic. I bought these silicone ziplock bags that are so durable and convenient. I always keep a few in my bag.
Solar powered charger: A solar powered charger for your phone and laptop is super helpful. I never have to worry about running out of battery and I donāt have to use energy when Iām charging. This one seriously changed my life.
Keep a thermos for coffee: I try to not buy coffee when Iām on campus but on days when I need a pick me up, carrying my own thermos with me ensures that I donāt need to waste any plastic.
How to make the learning process more eco friendly: ā I write lectures that do not require drawings / diagrams on the iPad, so as not to use paper ā I also keep all the textbooks online or take them from the library (by the way, almost all online libraries are free for students, you can ask for a username and password when you receive a library ticket in the state library or in the special office of your university) ā I print the necessary materials in the font āecofontā (available for free) or through the printer setup ādraftā / ālow qualityā ā I buy printing paper with a marking confirming the legality and environmental friendliness of wood production (FSC, PEFC, SFI, etc.) ā I do the paper for the notebooks myself, cut the office paper with the marking and make holes with a hole punch ā I write, I highlight the text with pencils, I also have a refillable black marker for special occasions (I want to try the fountain pens, they seemed pretty eco-friendly to me) ā whenever possible I choose local manufacturers of stationery and notebooks - my favorite brand is falafel (diaries, notebooks, pencils etc)
TIP 3
Buy clothes from second hand stores because of fast fashion
- thrift storesĀ
- ebayĀ
- trade clothes with a friendĀ
- hand me down clothesĀ
Fast fashion is cheap trendy clothes that stay in season for a while. This cycle produces a lot of waste because things are trendy for a small amount of time, once it is not popular people throw it out and it goes to landfill. Also the amount of water waste that is produce for making the fabrics and dying them with colors. The workers that are making the clothes behind the scenes are in developing countries who work in horrible working conditions while being paid little to none. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world, right after oil.Ā
Y'all here's the tea about fireworks
- the chemicals in them harm humans and pets
*copper(blue)- linked to causing cancer because of the dioxin
*barium(green)- used as a type of poison and is radioactive
Other dangerous heavy metals/chemicals in fireworks
*Cadmium, lithium, antimony, rubidium, strontium, lead, and potassium nitrate
All of what I just listed cause respiratory issues which we don't need more of
- they contribute to environmental pollution
Not only is this because of the waste they leave behind its also because of the smoke they leave too which can result in AIRBORNE ARISNIC
If you are in the valley like I am and have traveled at all you know the second you leave you can finally breathe especially during the week of the 4th of July
Again not only does it effect your air it effects your water for miles. It has been proven that the chemicals and metals in the firework itself contaminates water in the air and on the ground
- your neighbors could have sensory issues/auditory issues
As someone who has very intense auditory processing issues fireworks are a absolute trigger for everything.
-your neighbors might have respiratory issues
Another thing that is very close to home for me. Even the smoke off of others yards sets some peoples asthma or other respiratory issues off.
- fire!!!!
Idk if im the only one but I really don't want to set my yard or house on fire
No but really they are super fire prone and idk about u I don't think anyone really wants to set shit on fire and get finned/arrested.
Fr guys please be mindful of your neighbors and the eco system so before you strike the match think. And if you really need your fireworks Disney has been doing research/has engineered more eco and human friendly fireworks. I know Disney isn't super accessible to most but just please be mindful and maybe make it a big thing to see fireworks instead of an annual thing.

Waste Concious , Not Zero Waste : Cura Terrae
āZero Wasteā has been coined to be one of the newest lifestyle trends to hit the market. Everyone is obsessed with their $40 steel food container, and their $115 zero waste kit. With a new wave of āsustainableā bloggers taking over the spotlight from minimalism, hygge and mindfulness there are more āsustainable and zero wasteā products, sponsorships and marketing more than ever.
Is this a good thing?
The fact that more people are becoming aware of the waste they generate is a fantastic thing. However turning a sustainable lifestyle to better the environment into a predominately upper-class market with high demand and high prices, is not okay. While going into a spiral of articles from several bloggers, news writers, and even scientists, this trendy lifestyle is not at all what it seems.
A big topic lately is accessibility and inclusivity. When googling the term zero waste, the most popular figureheads you see are bloggers. They proudly hold their one mason jar of trash theyāve accumulated over the years high and mighty. They have minimal, simple, modern and very expensive looking Instagram feeds showcasing their favorite products ( all more than $20). People are seeing that as their first look into this philosophy, which is much more than expensive reusables, an expensive looking home, and an upper-class life.
This is why I decided to do this.
The term āzero wasteā didnāt seem right to me. Considering we have invisible waste we donāt even know of and tons of microplastics in the clothes we wear. In the industrialized 21st century no one can ever be truly ZERO waste. I personally always felt that the term zero waste was very binding and restrictive and can set up people for failure rather than success.
There is no right and wrong
I believe that there is no one way to be sustainable and produce less waste. Some people donāt have access to compost, produce without packaging and bulk stores. Not all women can use period cups to eliminate menstrual waste. Any reduction of waste in any area of consumption is enough and is a step in the right direction. If itās bringing a mason jar every day to your local coffee spot, or bringing one tote bag to get groceries, or using a french press to stray away from coffee pods and filters. Being simply more mindful of your waste and of what you purchase not only will create a habit, but it will save you money as well.

My originalĀ and edited zero waste + vegan recipes:
My deodorant formula:
This smells really nice and doesn'tĀ stain clothes or leave an oily residue. when tested against other popularĀ storeĀ bought natural/vegan deodorantsĀ it worked longer, plus it helps keep your underarms dry.Ā
Ingredients:
¼ cup lavender ( fragrance and soothes) ¼ cup cornstarch (moisture adsorbing/ reduces oiliness) ¼ cup baking soda (absorbs bad odors) 2-3 tbsp solid coconut oil (antibacterial, moisturizing, binder) 5-8 drops eucalyptus oil ( fragrance and soothes)
To make: Put lavender, cornstarch and baking soda in a blender or coffee grinder blend or pulse until lavender is as broken down as possible, then sift in to a container or bowl. Melt your oil in a microwave for about 10-20 seconds or in a pot on low heat until melted, fully incorporate with your dry ingredients and add eucalyptus, mix thoroughly then scoop into a jar or air tight container. (Feel free to double or adjust).
To use: Scoop up a small amount and slowly rub into your armpit letting it melt then fully rub in, if you have armpit hair I recommend combing out any solids (up to you).
My sweet mint toothpaste:
Sweet, minty, whitening and antibacterialĀ plusĀ no chemicals! This is a cheap, eco friendly and crueltyĀ free alternativeĀ to traditionalĀ toothpaste.
Ingredients:
8 tbsp solid coconut oil ( anti bacterial, binds) 3-5 tbsp baking soda ( cleans debris/plaque, whitens, absorbs bad odors) 1-2 tsp stevia (sweetens) 1-3 tsp natural peppermint extract (flavor, fresh tingle and smell, soothes gums)
To make: Mix all ingredients in a bowl (adjust baking soda, mint and sweetener as desired), when fully incorporated transfer into a jar or air tight container.
To use: Scoop a small quantity and brush teeth as usual.
My face wash/skin careĀ formula:Ā
Cleanses, softensĀ and smellsĀ amazingĀ !! This is perfectĀ for dry or oily skin, uneven or acneĀ prone skin and people with eczema or sensitiveĀ skin. oatmealĀ is great for soothing most skin conditionsĀ and gently exfoliates. Itās great for cleansingĀ without stripping your naturalĀ oils helping in balancingĀ your skin, you can use this 1-3 times a day every day a week if you choose, or use this to replace your currentĀ face wash/scrub/mask routine.
Ingredients:
½ cup dry oatmeal (exfoliates, binds, cleanse, moisturize, soothe) 1 tbs dry chamomile (soothes, exfoliates, fragrance) 2 tsp dry lavender (soothes, exfoliates, fragrance)
To make: Blend all ingredients in a blender or coffee grinder until a fine or mildly chunky powder. Sift to remove stems and other large fibers. Put into a jar or an air tight container.Ā
To use:Ā
Face and body: Scoop or pour a small quantity (about 1-2 tbsp) into your palm or in a small dish, add a little bit of water (about 1 tbsp at a time) until desired fluidity (paste-liquid) gently rub on face and/or body in small circles (let sit on skin if you like). rinse off, pat dry.Ā
Bath: In a warm-hot bath mix in 2-10 tbsps of face/skincare powder, relax and enjoy.
My Favorite Zero-Waste Swaps
Metal/Steel/Glass Straws!!!- As everyone knows, straws impact the environment in a very negative way, so why not make the change? Plus, theyāre fairly cheap!Ā
Cloth Produce Bags- Why take one plastic bag just to wrap up a few veggies or fruits? Cloth Produce Bags are a one time investment, and are way more convenient than grabbing the plastic bag!Ā
Re-Usable Grocery Bags- These are not the cheapest things in the world, but you can get a pack of three off of Amazon.com for around $30, and again, itās a one time investment, and one that is way more convenient than making the people at check-out put everything in multiple plastic bags.
ReusableĀ āZiplockā Bags- Perfect for freezing fruit in the freezer, putting certain things in the fridge, taking snacks to school, and for storing your other perishable items! Another plus to these- Theyāre cheap as hell most of the time!
Metal or Steel Water Bottles- Pretty much everyone has these in their cabinets. There is no reason for all the plastic bottle that are being thrown away everyday, when the Reusable Water Bottles will keep your drink cold/hot for hours at a time, where as plastic will keep your drink cold for a good 1-2 hours? Cut down on all the plastic making itās way out into the landfills!Ā
BUYING THINGS IN BULK!!!- This has to be a favorite within the zero-waste community! When you buy things, such as almond butter, pasta sauce, or anything in a glass jar..keep the jar!! You can bring your jars to most health foods stores or most any grocery stores in general and you can buy your items in bulk! None of all that extra waste! Just what you plan on using!
Bento Boxes/ Non-Plastic Lunch Box- These are a one time investment also! There is absolutely no reason that you should be eating out of PLASTIC containers that you will eventually throw away, these are so much more easier to clean than plastic is, and it is much better for the environment.
Portable Silver Ware!- There is not a lot to say about this one. Ditch the plastic forks and spoons, instead, take these!Ā
Hope you enjoyed my Zero-Waste Master Post :) I personally love all of these items, they have made such a difference with my life and how conscious I am of how I consume.Ā
would you be willing to make a post about how to make plarn? i don't quite get it
The method im using really just involves tying together a bunch of loops.
First you get your bag and cut off the handles and cut open the bottom
Then you fold the bag up into a thin rectangle and cut it into around 3 inch thick loops
Then you tie the loops together
And then you twist the shit out of it to make it easier to knit/crochet/weave with
And then youve made plarn!
Sorry if its not quite clear through the pictures but you basically just kind of put one of the loops through itself and pull it tight
Heres a video that also explains it if you need
Absolutely try this! It works great for just as many things as regular yarn does (personally I've crocheted a bath mat with it)
My first thoughts of lush's shampoo bar Jumping Juniper.
Lush is a favorite store of mine because of their vegetarian- vegan ingredients, delicious smelling soaps and hygiene products, recycling and limited waste support, and their wide range of products. Their products are absolutely a go to store of mine.
Pros-
ā¢Limited waste (only paper wrapping with a sticker)
ā¢vegan
ā¢bar (my preference)
ā¢floral smell
ā¢great for dandruff
ā¢super lathery
Cons-
ā¢smell washes out (this doesn't bother me whatsoever but some people really care)
ā¢is a bar which means it wears out a bit faster and can have stray hairs stuck to it
ā¢it cost somewhere around $12 which is a little pricey
Over all I think this bar is absolutely perfect for me so far and I will keep you updated on how my hair is feeling after a few months of use.
