Thinking about Katya's theme in Goncharov and more how it's rarely used fully over the main theme (most notably during Katya's death fake where it hits so hard). All of the characters have themes that work over the main one which is an insane fucking thing to pull off and I love it but I want to talk about Katya.

And I wanna talk about these two motifs

The first one is where I believe the score is giving away that Katya didn't actually die. She knew what she was doing and it's a powerful sound that is often played when she's winning in some form. (not always those specific notes, but that kind of ascending figure)

The second is more interesting, especially since in the piece it's almost always following the success motif. It's questioning(?). It's unsure. I like it. She did have a strong plan and it did work but she also did lose a lot along the way and I love it so much.
