I finally figured out why the dynamic of Vi and Jinx in Season 2 of Arcane didn't work for me-
For one, we have Vi, a character known for throwing herself into anything to protect those she cares for or a cause.
She was told being an enforcer will do good, her intention was GOOD.
Then, we have Jinx
A character on the brink of death, clinging onto her new hope for life. It would be blind not to notice the selfish part of the dynamic.
When Isha was taken, the only reason Jinx ended up in the prison was to find and save ONLY Isha. You could say rescuing the rest of Zaun was plain collateral.
From the perspective of these people, she is a hero. Sure, that's the narrative painted for the heroic figure.
Ignoring the part that she is both Vander's daughter AND killer, the narrative forgets the fact that during the time Jinx was on the drug trafficking side of Zaun, we had Echo keeping up the peace and building a safe place for the people.
Instead, we got a music video giving us a reason why Jinx is actually GOOD now.
And Vi is BAD.
I could get into the whole spiel on why season two was bad, or lightly speaking, not as good as season one.
But enough has been said already.
Now, onto my point, this entire conversation:
She wasn't always like this. She actually used to be pretty cool- before I kicked her butt.
See what I mean? Delusional.
Wish I was seeing things, when you decided to throw in with the Pilty-goons who murdered Mom and Dad!
Well, at least they never had to see the psycho their daughter turned into!
Which one? Wake up, sis; I'm a hero! I busted half of Zaun out of Stillwater, while you were passed out in the bottom of a mug. Now can it and keep walking, before I kick your ass again.
It always bothered me.
Jinx is presented as good in Season 2, and bad in Season 1.
Same goes for Vi, flipped.
But narratively, it only makes sense if you're looking at it through the eyes of the common folk in the show.
So here goes the thing that's been bothering me ever since watching the show:
Vi had good intentions, bad results.
Jinx had bad intentions, good results.
Ending in the story framing their actions as truth.
Vi was not going on a killing spree, being the same person who murdered their parents, but involving civilians in the search of eliminating key points involved in the byproduct that is the war. Jinx was not going out of her way to save a bunch of people who ended up worshipping her (the one truly leading this was Isha, by proxy, as Jinx was doing it for her, her new motive to continue after the ROCKET) and which she doesn't actually care about UNTIL she's seen their faces personally.
Season one established their new character, and season two went for trying to be lore accurate (ignoring the fact one of the writers got removed)
So yeah, that's my beef with the season, among other things.
