"There's another voice in my head. It's like I know it, like it's a part of me but… but not me." Winter looks at the ground, too nervous to look at your eyes. "I don't hear it much but when I do, I don't know, it feels like what it says is right."
You decide to finally move and sit next to him and keep a hand on his left leg. "When do you hear it the most?"
"Around you, whenever I think you're in danger or know you have been hurt. Whenever I think about you too much-" Winter places his metal hand on yours before looking at you. "which is most of the time."
"How long have you heard it?"
"About… four or five months consecutively now, but I think I have since I first heard your voice before I began training you."
"So… almost two years?"
"Yes…" Winter gripped your hand lightly before sighing. "There's more. There are flashes I see sometimes, I don't really know what of though. Sometimes it's like I see myself in a uniform surrounded by others in similar ones. Some are more like I'm watching a fight happen. Woods, inside a bunker on fire… The worst is like I'm watching myself fall…"
Sooo I got distracted today (was my birthday) and forgot to get The Solider, Winter and Her ready to upload chapter 3, so it'll upload tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a preview.
Warnings: Dark!Winter, blood described, desceiption of someone being attacked by Winter, ending is fluff
Winter was in a completely different place. All he could see was red the moment he walked into the training room and saw this agent's hands on you, his свет (Light). The fear on your face broke something in him and when that slime dared to lick you, try to mark you, he snapped and knew he was going to be reset for this, but didn't care.
After throwing the agent off you, Winter quickly glanced to make sure you were alright before turning to teach him a lesson and make it clear to the rest of Hydra who you were, and whose you were.
"Не смей называть ее так снова. (Don't you dare call her that again)" He growled out, towering over the now shivering excuse of flesh. Winter gripped his shirt collar tight and dragged him to his feet.
"Не смей снова прикасаться к ней. (Don't you dare touch her again)" His metal fist connected with his jaw, making your predator's head bounce back against the wall, blood dripping from his nose and temple now.
"Не смей смотреть на нее снова. (Don't you dare look at her again)" Winter slammed the agent hard into the ground, making him cough up blood.
"Ее имя не крыса. (Her name is not Rat)" Now Winter had the agent pinned under him, his knees holding down the man's arms.
"Ее зовут Инферно. (Her name is Inferno)" His mental fist connected with the face of the agent. Even from where you are frozen, you can hear the bones in his face break.
Punch after punch, Winter didn't seem to notice the pool of blood forming, and if he did, he didn't care. Finally you were able to get your body to move again and you slowly walked up to him and placed your arm on his metal shoulder.
"Winter," you whispered to him, "I'm okay, it's okay, you can stop." Winter held his fist up, mid swing. "I'm safe. Please, stop, Winter… please."
Slowly, Winter got up to his feet and turned to face you, staring at your face for a minute before holding you tightly against him.
"He touched you." Winter whispered in your neck.
"I know."
"He tried taking you from me."
"He didn't succeed."
"He tried marking you."
You moved your hands to Winter's face, holding him so you could look into his eyes. "He could never mark me. No one could ever mark me Winter. I'm your partner, your Light right?" He nods looking at you.
"Mine." He whispered before pressing his forehead against yours, pulling you closer to him. "Мой свет. (My Light)"
For the longest time, the trigger words were a never healing scar...but when Bucky changes his therapist, they start to become a reminder of bittersweet memories.

„Yeah…“ Bucky says dryly, tugging at the strap of the bag he is carrying.
Bucky looks up at her before reaching the door, his gaze still grumpy as he turns the handle of the door.

The next few hours passed in a whirlwind of choosing clothes, doing her makeup and hair.
Her phone buzzes. When she glares at it, there was a e text from Bucky („I won’t be able to call you, sorry“) Y/’s face flushes, blinking in surprise before anger seethes her mind. Inside her, some feral animal claws at her ribcage - jealousy.
She then smiles, putting her cellphone away as she get up to her feet to put on her shoes.
„Of course you won’t“

The bass pounds through Bucky’s head, throbbing through the walls. There are narrow flutes of champagne bubble and sparkle along with the delicate lights strung on large stage in the middle. The party reeks of wealth and influence – but all they need to do is tail someone.
He takes a sip, going through his phone, but there was no text from his girl.
„So um, we just watch them make the deal?“ a faint smile appears on the recruit’s face as she tucks a strand of blond hair behind.
„Yeah, pretty much“ he gives her a nod, not even bothering to look at her.
Bucky takes a moment to let his eyes sweep over the place, taking in the surrounding. In the darkness of the club ,a slash of bright red across the stage. Bucky blinks, his normal vision asserting itself, his eyes curiously watching. The recruit stars at him for a beat before following his gaze, letting out a resigned sigh. Bucky drumms his fingers on the counter, shifting in place.
The movement catches the blond girl’s attention.
„You alright?” she asks “You look quite uncomfortable“
“Ah, yeah, just leg-g r-room”
Bucky says, moving his chair back ,making the movement look casual, as if he is just straightening things out idly – he was hard and confused – why is his girl on the stage?
Not only is this extremely annoying and uncomfortable, it’s also humiliating. Her eyes are sparkly, predatory and Bucky notes from his front seating spot, alert. He shrugs and looks away. He’s feeling a little self-conscious, now that every man in the room have their eyes on her. Bucky swallows a gulp of his whiskey and nods, keeping a observation to himself („I should have told her“) She always makes his life infinitely more difficult by doing completely unnecessary actions.
His attention draws down to the shiny heels she’s wearing. He has never seen anyone wear heels quite that shiny before. Bucky knows every inch of her drop-dead gorgeous appearance, but he loves the fine details only he gets to see up close. The laugh lines fanning when she smiles , the scares that mark her body – a reminder of Hydra.
It's disconcerting and slightly awkward how he is turned on by her being on the stage, wearing next to nothing for complete strangers, using her body for income, to make him jealous. A pink flush running down his neck and disappearing under his black shirt, wiping the back of his hand over his forehead, the blond girl pulls a quixotic expression.
„You are enjoying the show!“
She smacks his shoulder, stifling her laughter behind a manicured hand.
„No, we have a job to do“
He blurts, automatic and bewildered, liking his lips, eyes narrowing at the insinuation.
Her performance seduces everyone in the room, bend their gazes in her direction – his fingers clench around his knees, chests heaving, and glazed eyes all around. So she works this stage as if it is all she ever know, an ability acquired at her time spend with the Black Widows, working alongside them for some time.
Her saunter down the walkway provokes worry into Bucky as she as she steps closer to them after her show ends, leaving the stage crouching low on pink-heeled shoes next to Bucky, her back to the recruit. Sky blue eyes bright and flushed with drink, lust and mostly embarrassment. He breathes, reaching out with metal fingers as if to brush his cheek.
„Sergeant Barnes, what a surprise…do you want a private dance?“
She straddles his thighs and grinds down.
He has to be imagining the undercurrent of seduction in y/n’s voice. Looking taken aback for a second, but then he seems to snap out of it and shakes his head.
„N-no, thank you, I don’t want to upset my girl by going behind her back‒“
He nearly chokes on the words, gently shoving her away.
Their eyes meet for a moment, his stare intense like he's trying to figure out what's behind the curtains of her plan. Bucky shakes off his annoyance and doesn't let the fact that he is disturbed by y/n’s actions show in front of the presence of the recruit which is still unaware of the woman if front of them.
“I’m a stripper, darling, not a therapist”
A wide grin stretches her glossy lips. She protests, aiming for an innocent tone and missing by a mile.
She gets up from his lap and walks away and he chugs down his whole cup before putting it down on the counter.
„I need to go to the bathroom“
"What if they move?" the blond girl asks, clearly irritated.
"Call me"

She enters a small room and he catches the door before it could close. The door shuts behind him with a bang and muffles the music coming from the club outside.
„Doll, what…what is this“ his arms flailing wildly.
„I should be asking you the same“
She manages to say before her mouth is sliding over Bucky’s , her tongue curls around the inside of his mouth.
„Come on, let’s just go home"
He cajoles, hoping he sounds convincing rather than needy. Torturously slow, Bucky licks his lips, rolls his hips fluidly. It’s a struggle to swallow back a groan when he there is a slight slap to his face.
„You are the one who needs to be slapped“
He chuckles stopping her from responding by kissing her full on the lips. She seems to lose track of whatever she was about to say, gaze dripping molasses-slow down. Bucky let's out a groan again, pressing himself into her, one hand goes into her hair, pulling her closer to him for another kiss, the metal one lays on her hip tightly.
She can’t say that they are clearly dating, since they never used that word and actually, never talked about what the relationship is, it just happened naturally. Healing is excruciating , ever since they escaped Hydra and she was wondering if their shared past plays a role into their bond. Eventually, they will have to talk about it, but not for now. Now, she wants to show him how possessive she is. She has to do this for his. This is for him. With such a hell in both in her head and heart, she found love. The broken will always be able to love harder than most people. Once you've been in the dark, you learn to appreciate everything that shines in your life – two blue eyes shine at her, but before she can go down on her knees, she grunts as she is slammed hard into the wall. Bucky can allow himself to be rougher since the serum is running in her veins, too. He buries his head against her neck, growling in her ear as he grinds helplessly against her leg.
"Bucky…" she moans, shivering as his lips settles on the delicate skin beneath her ear.
„That is not what you called me earlier“
His mouth finds hers, the kiss is rough and hungry, his hands on her hips, grinding her into him as he pushes her back into the wall. He closes his eyes as he leans into her warmth, a half-smile alighting on his features.
„Sergeant…“ she pants.
He glares at her with eyes full of lust, her expression softens and she raises one hand to briefly trace the lines of his mouth.
„And what do we call you ‒ a whore“
He says and before she could answer, he joins their fingers and places her hand back on the wall. She nearly groans at the sight. The absolute darkness of his gaze - erotic.

His voice, again, brought you back to the present. "For what?"
The Soldier was just staring at the ground, eyes looking like they were in another place. "You are injured because of me. I'm sorry."
"What happened back there?" you asked him as you got up and stood across from him, leaning against the counter separating the little dining and living area from the kitchen.
He just narrowed his eyes, glaring at the ground like it personally offended him to be there.
Letting out a deep sigh, you leaned your elbows against the counter to lean back and cross one leg over the other. "Don't give me that silent glare treatment, Солдат (Soldier). What happened? You never lose your cool, and not to an extent like that. Talk to me."
It was quiet for a few minutes, you could see the gears trying to work in his eyes and let him have time to get an answer together.
"He hurt you."
"I've been hurt on other missions, what was so different about this time?"
He still couldn't look up at you. His eyes looked empty, lost, like he was admitting something inside himself and not sure if he should say aloud, afraid it would become true if uttered.
You barely caught him whispering "Я не могу потерять тебя… (I can't lose you…)"
Your breath caught for a second hearing what he just admitted to you. Slowly, you stood from the counter and took a step towards him.
"Hey, you trained me, right?" Another step
"Да. (Yes)"
"You've been with me on all my missions, right?" Another step, bringing you in arms reach of the Soldier.

"Okay, so you know I won't go down without a fight. And with you there, I won't go down at all."

"As I said," Pierce gritted out, "you will go to the training rooms, spar with who is there and the one remaining will be your partner. Do you understand?"

Pierce looked at Rumlow confused. Glancing at his watch before replying, "It's Крыса (Rat). Must be putting up a fight over another treatment. Heard she's showing promise though. Something about fire and creating it, only sparks though apparently."
"Она будет моим партнером. (She will be my partner.)"
Slowly, Pierce backed away from the Soldier, putting his hands behind his back and humming in thought. "Rat huh? She has been here for fourteen, fifteen years and only just showing promise?"
"Science guys are hoping with the Scepter, that it'll boost her. Had to stop their tests when Fury took the Tesseract but apparently she responded well to it." Rumlow stated it as if it were a known fact, slowly crossing his arms over his chest, then glancing from Pierce to the Soldier, and back to Pierce.
"Ok asset, you'll get what you want." Pierce turned towards the Winter Soldier who immediately straightened his posture. "You'll get Rat as your partner, if she makes it through her physical test. You are to still spar with the others chosen, and her. She beats you, you'll train to work together. You beat her, well… Do you comply, Soldier?"

But your good old Viper here needs some opinions. We got Russian phrases in here, so I want to make sure translations are how you lovely readers would like to see them. We have format A:
Beginning of each chapter has a list of translated single words, phrases have translations at the end of its paragraph. Example:
Translations: Партнер - Partner, Солдат - Soldier.
"Ha! funny, that's funny Солдат, I didn't know you could joke." Judging from the stare he gave you, it was in fact, NOT a joke.

So since my WinterSoldier!Bucky x Reader idea has hit over 200 notes (I'm still crying my eyes out over this y'all 😭😭) and it gave me the confidence to give the fic a shot, here is a snippit from chapter one. "Potential? Potential for what?" you stared at the Soldier dumbfounded by his statement.
Suddenly, he looked away. Like he was embarrassed to say the next thing, or shy about it. Wait, the Winter Soldier? Embarrassed or shy? What could make him feel that?
Finally he managed to spit it out, well grumbled it out. "My партнер." He said while watching you intently, judging your reaction.
Партнер? His partner? Why the hell would you be his partner? What would he even need a partner for?
"Partner? Your partner?" The Soldier confirmed with a single quick nod.
This made you feel something, like something was dancing around in your gut. Anger? Annoyance? Confusion? All you had ever been to this damn organization is a lab rat. Nothing useful, nothing meaningful, why were they partnering you up with him?!
"Ha! funny, that's funny Солдат, I didn't know you can joke." Judging from the stare he gave you, it was in fact, NOT a joke.
"Oh you gotta be kidding me? Seriously?! Why me! What… what are they gonna send you on some extra dangerous mission and use me as the bait? Have me tag along to take the fall if you ever slip so they don't lose you?!" Now, without a doubt you're angry. You started storming the training room and raising your voice.
"What, they finally decide they're done using me, can't take me out themselves so they want you to do it? 'Here at Hydra, we hire people to take our human test subjects from a young age, then send them off to be killed when they become adults! No blood on our hands!"
"Your partner? They'll kill me before they'll ever, EVER let me see the sky again, Солдат. I don't know what they meant by 'partner', but it sure as hell isn't the 'go on missions together' type." You huffed out before leaning against the wall, letting what feelings remained stew.
He was quiet the whole time though, never even trying to get you to stand still, so you finally gave a glance over at him.
Something was slightly off. His jaw was set tighter than normal, both fists clenched tight, he was standing straighter than normal and… was that a hint of emotion in his eyes? If only it stayed long enough for you to be able to place it.
After a long silence and glare at the ground, he finally looked up to you.
"Нет."
"What…?" barely a whisper leaving your lips.
He said it again, only this time more sure of himself. "Нет. You are the only one with potential to be my партнер, you will not be killed," in a much softer voice, you barely caught him saying "Не заберут тебя у меня, мой свет." They will not take you from me, my light.

Whenever they are forced to train/fight the other, Winter feels guilt but no clue why he does
Winter kept reader a secret from anyone and everyone, buried so deep in his own memories that not even Bucky is aware she exists
When Bucky escaped Hydra, he's filled with tons of guilt and like a part of him is missing, more so than just his memories
One day the Avengers raid a base only to stumble upon and rescue reader and bring her back to the compound
Seeing reader again wakes Winter back up and sends him into protective overdrive
Bucky agrees to keep her safe if Winter goes back to his mental room so they stay out of the Raft
Ends up falling for reader
"You see why I kept her to myself? She's too pure for this world. This life... that life, she's all that got us through. This may be your body Sargent Barnes but if anything happens to her, I will take it back and burn this world to protect her"
Honestly, the idea of Winter and Bucky hating eathother to end up finding common ground in reader and at some point admitting they both need the other just does something to me. If anyone has any recs along that idea, hell or even wants to write one and wants/needs a proof reader for it, please for the love of this man, tag/comment/ask me

Steve rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly "Uh... Somewhere outside of Moscow. Nat found coordinates to another Hydra base-"

"Hidden in a forest. Ended up not being many there, just a dozen or so agents and her. Regonize her?"

"We should do a detailed blood test. See if we can tell what they may have done to her." Bruce had said while he went to one of the shelving units to get items to draw blood. "May not hurt as well to do an x-ray of her body, maybe an MRI and-"
The echo of crunching metal caught the rooms attention. "NO"
All eyes were looking in Bucky's direction, wide with shock from the sudden sound.
"Hey Buck, you wanna let go of the cart and explain why not?"
He looked down to notice his metal hand gripping the cart Bruce was putting his tools on pratically destroyed. How- He was on the other side of the room, when did he walk next to this girl on the bed? And why did he suddenly feel so protective?
Bucky forced his metal arm out of the tangle of metal, grunting out "Just bloodwork, wait till she's awake for more tests. Easier on her mind" before storming out of the medical wing and into the courtyard.
That wasn't him, it couldn't have been. He had no idea who that woman was, never seen her before. Unless he did see her during his Winter Solider days. But then why didn't he remember her? Why did he feel like he had to keep her safe?
And why was he hearing a voice in his head again? It was him but it wasn't his voice. There's no way it could have been the solider, he was removed in Wakanda when they-
