Okay, so, this fandom needs to stop using some incredibly heavy words for Adrien/Chat.

He's a murderer.

He sexually harasses/abuses Ladybug.

Excuse me, but what the actual fuck? I mean, HOW?

Regarding the first point, I believe, it comes from the NY Special where he accidentally 'kills' Aeon and then the current Hack-San episode. If there's anything else I missed, let me know.

So, you consider him accidentally killing Aeon a murder? An act of desperate pains which he regretted throughout the episode? You think you blame him for that? As a result, he gave up the only thing that gave him hope and happiness — his miraculous. Plagg is literally the only person who's seen him at his worst and best and it's clear how much Adrien loves Plagg. But obviously, let's ignore all that that follows and put all the blame of the accident on a traumatized boy. Incredibe.

I saw this accusation floating around a lot when Hack-San happened. That he was going to kill Alya. Yes? That was his first thought? What YOU as a viewer knew, Chat didn't. YOU had the advantage of being a viewer, Chat didn't. Had YOU not known Alya was going to get the Ladybug miraculous and seen only Adrien's POV, YOU'D see things exactly the way Adrien did (considering the fact you can't recognize the face of the superheroes). But instead what do I see?

Because due to lack of information, HE didn't know the Ladybug miraculous was temporarily passed onto someone else.

Then comes the second point — Chat sexually assaults Ladybug. Okay, let me take a deep breath. This is possibly worst accusation on the boy.

First of all, if Chat was sexually assaulting Ladybug, she'd have told him to fuck off. He is pushy. He is reckless. He doesn't know how to take no for an answer. But how the heck does that translate to sexual assault when his behaviour doesn't go beyond his playfulness?

He playfully flirts with Ladybug. He flirts with any female superhero that comes along. He flirts with Marinette. With Ladybug, even she flirts back with him. She gives him mixed signals. So, does that mean Adrien's behaviour towards her is right? Nope. And that's the point. His behaviour stems from the fact that he hasn't had an ideal female figure in his life to look up to. He's still a kid, and at this age boys LEARN about these etiquettes, which pass into their adulthood. Most probably his mother wasn't exactly a good mum either. Chloe isn't someone you'd trust who made Adrien understand what kind of behavior girls like in boys. That leaves him only Ladybug who says no to his advances but also flirts back with him. It's likely they don't spend much time with together either.

So, that means Adrien is sexually harassing Ladybug. God, no. He isn't.

But, is his behaviour right? Again. No.

However, his behaviour has an explanation and it can change if, and only if, there's someone telling him he's wrong. I think the show doesn't use Plagg to right Adrien's wrongs the way it uses Tikki to show Marinette mirror in wake of her blunders. In other words, he needs to be told he's wrong. Because, otherwise in the circumstances he's lived and the people he's surrounded by, it's hard for him to understand that's not how girls like boys.

Maybe. Just maybe Luka someday helps him understand this simple fact.

Marinette has displayed stalker tendencies in the show--getting a hold of Adrien's schedule, breaking into his house, stealing his phone, following him out of jealousy for this one girl who tries to hit on him. Those are all definitely not okay and Marinette could be liable to a lot of French laws on stalking and privacy, but the show gives her plot armor and at that point no one has even called on Officer Roger to arrest her for it or called up her parents to correct that tendency, and her friends aren't helpful either. She obviously puts Adrien on a pedestal and is basically obsessed with him, and she shows it through making up fantasies in her head, preparing a lot of gifts for his future celebrations, and even devising more complicated step-by-step plans instead of just going straight to him and talking to him more often like what Kagami does. However, just because she seems to gets off without a warning with this behavior doesn't mean it's definitely okay. Calling this problematic is an understatement since this thing has been dragged on for 4 seasons already. But what else has been dragged on for 4 seasons already? Adrien's pushiness as Chat Noir towards Ladybug, more specifically his insistence on them being meant to be and wanting to become a couple with her.

You may not be able to get through your heads that Adrien has taken on the qualities of a sexual harasser, in which I will remind you that sexual harassment takes on this definition:

And if you're gonna refute that with the fact that none of Chat Noir's advances towards Ladybug were sexual in nature, maybe a definition of harassment is what you really need:

Given these definitions I found, maybe you were too quick to label those criticizing Adrien as deranged or insane or whatever, because you probably never looked at the main point of harassment, which is, repeat after me:

Chat Noir's continued insistence on being meant to be Ladybug's romantic partner is something that has been going on for 4 seasons and something that has been depicted from the start as playful, maybe even innocuous. It's as if Ladybug didn't have to take all that seriously, given that Chat Noir was fulfilling his end of the partnership as a superhero team seriously in their battles. To Ladybug, her partnership with Chat Noir always takes precedence in their dynamic, because as long as Hawkmoth is still active, they have to do their jobs first. However, Chat Noir wants something more with Ladybug and his feelings seem to gradually take over more and more, and his tendencies to insist over and over that they're meant to be a couple grew. And it has been going on long enough and Ladybug keeps telling him no, they're not a couple, drop it. But he takes it as "No, next time maybe?" instead of a flat out "No," all because he always has this false hope that Ladybug will love him one day. This sounds like the classic Nice Guy who forces his feelings on a girl, thinking she's meant to be with him because he's the Nice Guy and he deserves her. News flash though: you cannot and you don't have the right to force your own feelings on someone else just because they're intense or you can't control them. You cannot pressure someone to date you just because the public says you look cute together, or because you yourself say you look good together. Chat Noir continues anyway, unhinged, and since he's Adrien, Adrien is completely at fault. Don't try excusing the behavior of the superhero just because his nature is different from his secret identity. They're still one and the same.

I'm telling you now: as someone who has been a victim of repeated, unwanted advances by someone I barely even know, I can firmly say that this is something very problematic of any person of any age. I don't care if Adrien/Chat Noir is still a teenager; this is very problematic behavior that constitutes sexual harassment that he isn't aware of himself that is worthy of being criticized of. Even if Ladybug can defend herself in the long run against those unwanted advances, that definitely doesn't excuse Chat's pushy behavior, not even the way he forces his feelings on Ladybug just because rumors circulated that they were actually a couple. It's not even romantic or respectable anymore. It's just pathetic and problematic and Adrien needs to learn that this is not okay, not even to Ladybug, and he should really learn to treat her better and entirely consider her own feelings. Yes, even if Chat Noir is Adrien whom Ladybug/Marinette happens to be in love with and they're both unaware of this. This is a very unhealthy plot progression between the two of them and if they were to get together as a couple right away, it would be unhealthy. This is why Bunnix travelled back in time to stop the reveal that led to Chat Blanc.

My other bottomline here is that even if my explanation about Adrien's problematic advances and his "I can't stop my feelings so i say them over and over" being something problematic that shouldn't even be said in a kid's show is longer than what I have to say about Marinette's unhealthy, obsessive tendency to resort to extreme stalker-like measures to win Adrien over, it doesn't mean that I'm for one and against the other. This doesn't have to be a dichotomy. MLB fans can stan both and criticize both at the same time and that's fine. What's not fine however is defending the problematic tendencies of one character and lambasting those of the other character at the same time, and excusing problematic behavior because your favorite character is juvenile, even if both characters are juvenile. Problematic behavior is problematic behavior, no matter the age and no matter the circumstance. If the fans see Adrien's unwanted advances towards Ladybug as problematic and you don't, maybe just don't engage with the content and ridicule them until after you've read and analyzed everything and checked your own ideals with respect to their opinions.

And let me remind you that demeaning us for our very warranted opinions on Adrien doesn't help your point. It just makes you look like a harasser apologist, a victim blamer (since you insisted that Ladybug can defend herself anyway so Char Noir gets a pass for his unwanted romantic advances), and an overall unreasonable person. That being said, if you can't even engage on a healthy discussion in the first place and your first line of defense is calling Adrien salters deranged, and in conjunction labelling Marinette stans who have done nothing to offend you so much on purpose as deranged, leave them the fuck alone. Your opinions matter less the more you diminish others to make a point.

I have been bullied before and let me tell you this: even IF the bullies have seemed to change, some of them will even say that their bullying you is justified and it’s definitely a fucking red flag. This is why I never trust a former bully immediately until they prove through consistent actions that they really are better people than way before they treat me like shit. Bullying is NEVER OKAY, no matter the reason, no matter the motive. Can’t it just be that she finds it so easy to defend bullies because she’s a bully herself? If she could sympathize with bitches like Chloe, Lila, and Felix, but not Marinette who’s aligned with good the entire fucking time, chances are she’s really sympathetic with them in being such an asshole to others. I think her train of thought may have gone like “I don’t care if they became assholes. Look, I just wanna say I do feel for you when you said you've been bullied as a kid. No kid should have to go through something like that and its good things managed to settle down. However, this post honestly rubbed the the wrong way. Why? Because I was also bullied as a kid.

Giving them time and space isn't always going to work because not every bully works like that. For me, the bullying didn't stop until my teacher go involved and had to tell him to stop bullying me.
