Hi hi hi I was thinking about your WoF Mechanic again and I had a thought

If the Hood met him when the NightWing tribe was still pretending they were mysterious and all powerful and allknowing and such, would that be one of the reasons he controlled him? Because he expected him to have these incredible powers everyone thought NightWings had?

'Cause if he was still under that impression then of course a young NightWing- even a hybrid- would catch his eye :3

I think I mentioned something before about the Mechanic hatching under a full moon, except not directly under. Instead of visions or prophecies, he gets vibes about certain places or decisions. The Hood is the reason why the Mechanic is able to actually use his powers, instead of fearing them.

The Hood didn't initially use the scroll to control the Mechanic either, he used his manipulation tactics to use the Mechanic. He only used to scroll once the Mechanic started talking about finding his family and the guilt of what thry were doing. Driven partially by his need for power, and partially by his fear of again losing his "family".

He never uses his magic to control the Chaos Crew, not after how things turned out with the Mechanic...

ALSO despite the Mechanic not having proper powers, most dragons wouldn't know that. Under the Hood's guidance, he learns to convince people that he's more powerful than he really is. At times, even covering his orange scales to pass as fully NightWing.

The Hood also can change appearance thanks to his scrap of the scroll, so he has veen able to convince other dragons that he has NightWing powers. The Mechanic's powers, while weak and hard to use, still give them quite the advantage in a lot of situations.

Hehe :3 Is he disappointed when he realizes the Mechanic's not as powerful as he hoped?

Also, you said the Hood is the reason why he uses his powers instead of fears them, but I'm wondering- would he have even recognized his powers for what they were before him? Would his mother have ever told him? NightWing abilities had been lost for so long she wouldn't have even thought it was possible, so would she just...not mention it 'cause she didn't want to lie to her dragonet?

Alsoooooooo y'know who else would be interesting for him to meet? Moonwatcher. I think the prospect of another NightWing who hatched off the island would make her hope he might be similar to her- especially since you said he's learned to convince people he has more power than he actually does. Sorry Moon, but not quite.

The other fun thing about Moonwatcher is that if his mom did end up making it back to the NightWings even after he ran away, Moon would probably be able to recognize him on sight if she's seen/heard anything from his mom's thoughts about him. Plus I just think it'd be fun to put the nervous mind reader in the room with the dragon who definitely would not like to have someone in his head :)

Not exactly what I had in mind, but I just wanted to get something down. Lots to say and add and edit, but enjoy this for now!

Thunderdragons Are Go! (Def not gonna be a new thing where I design them all just cause I found out a whole one moot also likes wof and tag. On an unrelated note, @viridian-snow I finished my concept art, enjoy!)

I went with a Nightwing/Skywing hybrid because I wanted his wings to have the stars and I wanted to make him look like his outfits, so I mostly stuck with black for the Nightwing, but also Skywing cause I feel like he'd be good at flying and k wanted him tk have the little grabby things on the wings and it would be a great way to add the orange from his outfit! I new I wanted to have the orange along the underbelly and it came to me like a vision and this is what it turned out as.

Planning to actually make bis tattoo look decent, and I have an idea on how to incorporate the pattern in his hair and typing this just gave me another great idea hold up a sec-

I just finished reading the comic for Darkstalker Legends so I may have had Nightwings on the mind

Im tempted to have him hatch under one moon, but his egg wasn't under direct moonlight, so he would have almost visions(kinda like Fatespeaker I guess?).

I am coming up with the lore rn, so this is all subject to change.

His mother would have been a Nightwing who left the tribe around the time the dragonets of destiny hatched, and his father would have been a deserter from Scarlet's army, trying to escape her cruelty. They would tey to kill each other upon first meeting, the way all good relationships start.

She ends up wounding him badly, and at the same time he manages to throw her off of him. She jumps back up ready to fight, but instead she stands before a dragon who can't get back up and finds that she doesn't have it in her to kill- not once her opponent can no longer defend themselves...

She ends up nursing him back to health over about a year, but there is permanent damage from what she did, restricted movement, poor maneuvering in flight, chronic pain, etc. But they end up falling in love. They have two eggs. The first to hatch is his sister(she is most important to me, and I get to give him a sibling if I want lol). Then he hatches.

First the first two years of his life, he lives with his family. Then, Scarlet gets news of his father, the deserter. They are ambushed in the night by her troops, his father and sister are captured, his mother makes it away into the night with him.

They hide, live carefully, for another two years, before she falls ill. She starts talking about returning to the tribe she ran away from, to the place she'd told him terrible things of. The night she planned for them to set out for the Night Kingdom, he runs away. He runs and keeps running until he falls into the clutches of a dragon simply known as "The Hood".

I am planning for The Hood to be part Rainwing and have known Chameleon. He tried to steal Darkstalker's scroll from him, but Chameleon caught him, so the scroll ripped. He uses the small piece of scroll for careful enchantments, as he has very little space to write.

An enchantment that allows him to control other dragons, one to change his looks, and a couple of others. He also carries the tiniest scrap of the scroll, hidden between scales, for an emergency.

Other thoughts:

Jeff: Sky

Lucille: Mud/Sea(Only a small bit, like 4 generations back or something) looks almost entirely like a Mudwing, with only one or two tiny Seawing traits

Scott: Looks like Jeff, but with a few Mudwing traits

Virgil: Looks A LOT like Jeff, but with more Mudwing features

John: Looks like a Skywing, a few small mudwing traits, but most wouldn't even notice them, a mix of his parent's traits

Gordon: Leans more towards Mudwing, a few Skywing traits, webbed talons, can hold his breath for much longer than the average mudwing, looks a lot more like Lucille than the rest

Alan: Looks mostly Mudwing, but his features tend to look like Jeff's

All of Tracy's can breath fire, Gordon, and ironically John, have the weakest fire, while Scott and Virgil have the strongest. Once Alan grows up, his rivals Scott's.

Kyrano: Mud/Rain(a great-grandparent) Mostly looks like a Mudwing, but with a few colorful scales here and there

Kayo: Mud/Rain(great-great-grandparent) Resembles her mother's features, but she has the same coloration and scales as her father

The Hood: Mud/Rain(shares a Mudwing father with Kyrano, but had a Rainwing mother) Grew up hiding his Rainwing side, looks like a oddly shaped Mudwing(Glory could pass, why not him?), leaves home young to pursue a life of crime for reasons and such

Penny: Ice, she's of Royal blood, but unimportant to most of the tribe. Enjoys not being in the Ice Kingdom

Parker: Sandwing, used to be into pretty shady business, tried to rob Penny, but she was looking for someone who wouldn't mind breaking some rules to help her actually make a difference, and now he's stuck working for her, and would stop at nothing to protect her.

Brains: Sky/Sea(grandparent) Mostly looks like a skywing, but he has a few Seawing traits, and some pink and green scales. Main color is like his IR uniform.

Havoc: Sky/Sand fast, mostly sand colored, very hot fire

Fuse: Mud/Sea bulky, strong, mix of Mudwing and Seawing build, can't breathe underwater and hates that, doesn't like fish, weak fire, better swimmer than the average non-seawing

Both orphaned and shunned at a young age. Havoc takes on the role of older sister. They. Are. Siblings.

Casey: Sky/Mud trained under Jeff. Mostly Mudwing traits, but a skilled flier.

Oooooh chewing on all of this. Yeah, I was also thinking about some kind of Hood & Chameleon connection and using part of Darkstalker's scroll to control the Mechanic here. Also- ough, if the Mechanic was 4 when he ran away, was he still a dragonet when the Hood got his claws on him? I'm holding him gently in my hands. I hope he can reunite with his family one day :(

Also once the Mechanic is freed again, would he be more willing to return to the NightWings once their under Glory's rule and living in the RainWings? I think we should inflict him with Kinkajou. Also I think he deserves a nice nap in the sun after all this. Many, many naps.

Do you think the Tracys boys would attend the Jade Mountain Academy? A school for all the tribes sounds like a wonderful place for them

Making the Hood extra corrupted in this for reasons, but also not? He starts out with bad intentions, but can't fully get rid of the part of himself that's still good- it's gonna be a whole ✨️thing✨️

His sister? Captured by Scarlet? Ally of Burn? Burn's Weirdling Tower? Where she keeps dead hybrids? No comment.

Maybe Possibility could make a good home for him post-Hood too? Also if there's a part of the Hood that's still good, how does that effect their relationship- is there a part of him that actually cares a little (especially since the Mechanic would've been fairly young here...)?

Another dragon I think he should meet is Peril. On one talon I think he'd understand being made to do terrible things to other dragons (though in her case, it was through Scarlet's manipulation of her since she was a hatchling), but on the OTHER talon-

Would his father have ended up in Scarlet's arena as punishment for deserting? And if so...would he have ended up getting killed by Peril? Regardless of what actually happened it'd be a fun confrontation

I hadn't even thought of Peril! That would be a great way to take this. Have them meet, bond a but over the manipulation they've been through, and then to find out that she aas the one to actually take his father's life? That would be so gooood.

I want him to mostly hate the Hood, out of everyone, everything hat happened, the Hood is the one that he can't forgive, even if he changes. Obviously he hates Scarlet and Burn, but he learns to forgive the Nightwings, but to forgive the Hood?

The Hood ends up regretting the way he controlled the Mechanic, and is reevaluating some things. That is when he meets Havoc, he sees a kid talented in thievery, and offers her a job working for him, food, a home. She initially turns him down, but then they get caught stealing from a powerful dragon(and one unbothered by having children murdered), and The Hood decides to save them, and now they owe him.

He fights viewing them as his own, despite them being orphaned children that he took in. Havoc would be 4 and Fuse 3 at this time. Like, those are just babies sir. Those are your children now.

They end up being very loyal to him, and view him as their sort-of-father, but also boss.

Hehehe :3 He'd be so angry with her at first- not that he could really do anything about it, he can't exactly fight her without burning himself on her scales- and she'd feel so bad about the whole thing. She's used to being hated, and she knows she's killed a lot of dragons, but I don't think she's ever had to deal with a friend who's lost someone to her or has any idea how to repair that relationship. I'm sure Peril thinks he'll hates her forever now :)

(He might. Be able to move past it. Eventually. But he'll probably need time. Peril was as much Scarlet's pet as he was the Hood's, after all. It was all she had known. But even if he doesn't want to hold it against her, it's...hard. It hurts)

I wonder if part of him wishes he could've gotten revenge on Burn and Scarlet before they died. Especially Burn. God, I wonder if Peril would've been the one to tell him about the Weirdling Tower too, since I'm not sure he would've known...either that or Sunny if they ever met, she'd probably handle that conversation better. Still though...even if he couldn't hurt them himself, at least they are dead now.

Oooooh chewing on all of this. Yeah, I was also thinking about some kind of Hood & Chameleon connection and using part of Darkstalker's scroll to control the Mechanic here. Also- ough, if the Mechanic was 4 when he ran away, was he still a dragonet when the Hood got his claws on him? I'm holding him gently in my hands. I hope he can reunite with his family one day :(

Also once the Mechanic is freed again, would he be more willing to return to the NightWings once their under Glory's rule and living in the RainWings? I think we should inflict him with Kinkajou. Also I think he deserves a nice nap in the sun after all this. Many, many naps.

Do you think the Tracys boys would attend the Jade Mountain Academy? A school for all the tribes sounds like a wonderful place for them

Thunderdragons Are Go! (Def not gonna be a new thing where I design them all just cause I found out a whole one moot also likes wof and tag. On an unrelated note, @viridian-snow I finished my concept art, enjoy!)

I went with a Nightwing/Skywing hybrid because I wanted his wings to have the stars and I wanted to make him look like his outfits, so I mostly stuck with black for the Nightwing, but also Skywing cause I feel like he'd be good at flying and k wanted him tk have the little grabby things on the wings and it would be a great way to add the orange from his outfit! I new I wanted to have the orange along the underbelly and it came to me like a vision and this is what it turned out as.

Planning to actually make bis tattoo look decent, and I have an idea on how to incorporate the pattern in his hair and typing this just gave me another great idea hold up a sec-

Hell yeah!!! I do adore Night/Sky for him, which is only partially 'cause I have a Nightwing favoritism bias. Does he have any powers, or was he hatched before the Nightwings moved off the island?

I do have a Mud/Sky design for him of my own in the works but idk when I'll get around to that more since I've got assignments & other wips to do but it does. exist

I just finished reading the comic for Darkstalker Legends so I may have had Nightwings on the mind

Im tempted to have him hatch under one moon, but his egg wasn't under direct moonlight, so he would have almost visions(kinda like Fatespeaker I guess?).

I am coming up with the lore rn, so this is all subject to change.

His mother would have been a Nightwing who left the tribe around the time the dragonets of destiny hatched, and his father would have been a deserter from Scarlet's army, trying to escape her cruelty. They would tey to kill each other upon first meeting, the way all good relationships start.

She ends up wounding him badly, and at the same time he manages to throw her off of him. She jumps back up ready to fight, but instead she stands before a dragon who can't get back up and finds that she doesn't have it in her to kill- not once her opponent can no longer defend themselves...

She ends up nursing him back to health over about a year, but there is permanent damage from what she did, restricted movement, poor maneuvering in flight, chronic pain, etc. But they end up falling in love. They have two eggs. The first to hatch is his sister(she is most important to me, and I get to give him a sibling if I want lol). Then he hatches.

First the first two years of his life, he lives with his family. Then, Scarlet gets news of his father, the deserter. They are ambushed in the night by her troops, his father and sister are captured, his mother makes it away into the night with him.

They hide, live carefully, for another two years, before she falls ill. She starts talking about returning to the tribe she ran away from, to the place she'd told him terrible things of. The night she planned for them to set out for the Night Kingdom, he runs away. He runs and keeps running until he falls into the clutches of a dragon simply known as "The Hood".

I am planning for The Hood to be part Rainwing and have known Chameleon. He tried to steal Darkstalker's scroll from him, but Chameleon caught him, so the scroll ripped. He uses the small piece of scroll for careful enchantments, as he has very little space to write.

An enchantment that allows him to control other dragons, one to change his looks, and a couple of others. He also carries the tiniest scrap of the scroll, hidden between scales, for an emergency.

Other thoughts:

Jeff: Sky

Lucille: Mud/Sea(Only a small bit, like 4 generations back or something) looks almost entirely like a Mudwing, with only one or two tiny Seawing traits

Scott: Looks like Jeff, but with a few Mudwing traits

Virgil: Looks A LOT like Jeff, but with more Mudwing features

John: Looks like a Skywing, a few small mudwing traits, but most wouldn't even notice them, a mix of his parent's traits

Gordon: Leans more towards Mudwing, a few Skywing traits, webbed talons, can hold his breath for much longer than the average mudwing, looks a lot more like Lucille than the rest

Alan: Looks mostly Mudwing, but his features tend to look like Jeff's

All of Tracy's can breath fire, Gordon, and ironically John, have the weakest fire, while Scott and Virgil have the strongest. Once Alan grows up, his rivals Scott's.

Kyrano: Mud/Rain(a great-grandparent) Mostly looks like a Mudwing, but with a few colorful scales here and there

Kayo: Mud/Rain(great-great-grandparent) Resembles her mother's features, but she has the same coloration and scales as her father

The Hood: Mud/Rain(shares a Mudwing father with Kyrano, but had a Rainwing mother) Grew up hiding his Rainwing side, looks like a oddly shaped Mudwing(Glory could pass, why not him?), leaves home young to pursue a life of crime for reasons and such

Penny: Ice, she's of Royal blood, but unimportant to most of the tribe. Enjoys not being in the Ice Kingdom

Parker: Sandwing, used to be into pretty shady business, tried to rob Penny, but she was looking for someone who wouldn't mind breaking some rules to help her actually make a difference, and now he's stuck working for her, and would stop at nothing to protect her.

Brains: Sky/Sea(grandparent) Mostly looks like a skywing, but he has a few Seawing traits, and some pink and green scales. Main color is like his IR uniform.

Havoc: Sky/Sand fast, mostly sand colored, very hot fire

Fuse: Mud/Sea bulky, strong, mix of Mudwing and Seawing build, can't breathe underwater and hates that, doesn't like fish, weak fire, better swimmer than the average non-seawing

I've read through book 14, I haven't read through side series yet, I read Darkstalker legends, and i started reading the other legends book, but I didn't get to finish it.

Shall I mention how I enjoy turning characters I like into dragons and have had the Mechanic on my mind a lot?

I definitely haven't read book 16 yet, I thought I hadn't read book 15 but my library app says I did borrow the ebook back in 2022? Don't remember much thougb so time for a reread I guess LOL

Darkstalker legends is definitely a good one, and I remember loving Dragonslayer a lot so I 100% recommend going back and finishing it when you have the time

I haven't read the side series either because my library never had any of the winglets ebooks...they do have #5 now but I haven't checked if they have the rest yet

Also HELL YEAH what type of dragon are you thinking of making him?

Also since we're talking about TAG dragons, could maybe be fun to play around with a Tracy Brothers as the Dragonets of Destiny au- there are 5 of them after all!

It would fit pretty easily too! Of course this would have to be an au where the Skywing egg in the prophecy wasn't killed, but Scott would def be the Skywing, Seawing Gordon goes without saying, Mudwing Virgil, Nightwing John, and Alan would be the Sandwing through process of elimination- which idk if that necessarily fits him as well as the others, but if it's still a Sunny situation where he's half Nightwing could still work.

Cool! Would love to hear about 'em. Back in middle school I had a Glorybringer fan kid oc named Nightbreeze...never did much with her though, and it's been years...maybe I should draw her again

I just- look, I didn't ship anything from TAG for well over a year after I finished my first watch through (which obviously isn't to say that there aren't good ships, there's just none that I could really say that I, personally was invested in) but somehow my brain looked at these two fuckers arguing and went "Them. Let's do something with them."

HONESTLY it wasn't even supposed to be romantic at first but it evolved in that direction surprisingly fast. Do I have any basis for this? Not really, no. Have I been thinking about them constantly for nearly four months straight at this point? ...Yeah.

I can't explain to you how this happened but y'know. It's messy and it's fun and it delights me, and really that's the important part
